I almost wonder if Snoke looks almost....normal? Like he projects himself as this big scary evil misfigured thing as a form of intimidation.

A lot of the "Rey is OP!" talk will be answered in the next episode when its revealed Luke was training her as a child

This is what I've been saying for days.

Just saw it, J.J. did a fine job. Only thing that bothered me and it may have been discussed already. I would have thought Kylo would have destroyed Finn, fight wouldn't have last 10 secs in my opinion. Anybody with me on this one?

I kinda felt the same way, but I guess he was pretty injured and not in a normal state of mind after the Han thing.

Hmmm... now I question if Lucasarts has any idea what they are doing. Though I guess a more focused vision can be needed versus design by committee. On thing I do know is that Disney is very hands off of Lucasarts in terms of IP development.

Ugh really I was hoping things were thought out a ahead of time for something of this magnitude.

Here's the thing though - you can't get many good writers / directors to sign on to your series if you tell them that they don't really have any say in the big creative beats of the arc. I mean, Abrams and Kasdan basically rewrote Episode VII in less than a year. If you want the best of the best - you need to leave some big beats open for future writers / directors. It sounds like Rian is finished with Episode VIII and they are a good chunk of the way through Episode IX though.

But I'm sure there are points that that are mapped out and set in stone and I'm almost certain Rey's origin would be one of them.

Rey I'm sure; Finn I could see them leaving open to some extent.

Kylo got shot and was in distraught with what's happening or what had happened especially with Rey and the attack.

Finn is force sensitive bro
he probably isnt, but i really want him to be

Finn is going to get bitten by a radioactive spider and develop force powers
Actually though, I'd love to see Finn develop Dark Force Powers(because of his proximity to the Dark side of the Force) but use them for good

That's true. I think Rian Johnson is a good choice for these films. I'm glad he is also penning IX. Is the same cinematographer being used for all 3 films? Because that would calm some of my worries with Colin.

I was also wondering. Why do the Sith have to follow the 2 rule? Couldn't they have just broken it especially because of the dominance they had

Nah, Kylo is still kind of a poser when it comes to being battle savvy. And Finn was top of his class.

I feel like the whole sense of the allure of the dark side would be diminished if you can get lightning bolt hands jsut because you hung out with them for a while.

Didn't get spoiled beforehand, but as soon as Finn and Rey arrived on that balcony and Han yelled out to Kylo as he was walking on a long, ominous bridge across a dark, endless pit, I knew Han was about to die. That shit was telegraphed as fuck.

But that scene was so well-acted that even though Kylo mending his ways and going back with Han would've made no damn sense from a story building perspective, for a second I kinda believed that he might.

Part of me can't help but think the theories about Snoke possibly looking different in future films is just people in denial about his CGI being kind of "eh" in TFA.

I think the hologram effect (and the lighting) just made his digital appearance much more obvious than it otherwise would have been. For all we know, when we do finally see him in person we'll get Davy Jones level of ILM kick-assery and he'll look great.

chewie the god injured Kylo with his OP blaster
thanks Chewie B^)

We're there any references at all to the prequels?

Several. Clone Armies are mentioned, Anakins Pod Racer flag is at Maz Kanata's, Ewan McGregor had a voice over cameo as Obi-Wan, Maz Kanata lists the threats to the light in chronological order: The sith, the empire and now the first order.

Pure speculation here, but some people were imagining that once Kylo completes his training he betrays Snoke and teams up with Rey to take him down. Redemption and all that.

I think it would be far more interesting to see Kylo betray and kill Snoke and become the ultimate leader/badguy tbh.

Since they established that he'd been fighting the light side, and seemingly made a final choice by offing Han, if honestly be really disappointed if he's magically redeemed at the very end. I'm with you on the ultimate bad guy route.

I think Rey addressing the Jedi as "I thought that was a myth" buys a lot of leeway with her mind control scene. She seems to be interested in the Jedi mythology enough to know what abilities they may have had.

I equate it with maybe something like vampires for us. Someone tells you that it's true, all of it, then later you run into a vampire. What do you do? Sunlight? Garlic? Wooden stake? You might try those things, and maybe it would work.

Probably. The biggest thing will be is if Lucasfilm has their Kevin Feige; someone who kind of keeps the whole continuity shindig rolling or not. Kennedy is a strong candidate (look at her filmography, dear lord it is awesome movie after awesome movie) - but I don't know if being CEO of Lucasfilm means she won't be able to have the time to do that.

Also, I'm fine with Kylo being sort of scrubby against Finn and Rey; they spent a ton of time setting up that the Bowcaster is a bazooka; and he took a shot straight from it.

I mean we know she has a connection to Luke. She knew where he was in her repressed memories. I'm pretty sure she's his daughter

I've said this a thousand times already but the movie is full of subcommunication to the effect of her being Luke's. (desert planet, her outfit, the lightsaber in the snow..) it also has some less subtle references, like Maz seemingly discussing a lineage of Skywalkers that includes Rey.

Finally, Luke looks at her with recognition and heavy emotion at the end. He KNOWS who that is and it's not someone unimportant to him.

Clones were mentioned when questioning the effectiveness of the First Order Stormtroopers. I think that's the biggest and most obvious one. And if theres going to be a prequel reference, the clone army is the best choice since The Clone Wars series is the best prequel media!

Ewan was apparently the voice of Obi during the saber vision. "Rey!"
I believe Sith were mentioned which was not used in the movies until the prequels.
Someone told me that podracer engines were visible somewhere in the background.

Then why not go practical effects on him? He didn't look like something that needed to be CGI. When I first heard it was Andy Serkis I thought we were about to get something truly crazy looking

This thread is moving too quick and it's too long to look through - any good resources for collected fan theories?

On my second watch through I thought it might be neat if Rey had been the one who had betrayed Luke and killed the other students and then mind-wiped and left on Jakku. Probably not what happened though.

The best thing that could happen with Snoke is for him to be replaced by an interesting character. If Kylo Ren is this trilogy's Darth Vader, Snoke should be Emperor level of awesome when he was more like Nute Gunray level in TFA.

Agreed 100%. There is tons of evidence she is Luke's daughter. Not sure she could be anyone else's really

Too bad people will, if they're not already, that will complain about Rey being Luke's daughter as "too predictable" which I think is just a cynical way of looking at it. Not every thing has to be a "No, I am your father" sort of plot twist.

Any chance luke survives the trilogy? Would be a neat surprise.
*shrug*

These movies should be the passing of the torch to the new generation. I kinda hope we can say goodbye to those characters.

Luke is the only Jedi left, if he dies I don't think it's going to be until the next trilogy after this, especially if they intend of reforming the Jedi Order in some fashion. I think he needs to live until there's someone or several of them really prepared to take his place.

Besides that, I'd rather Luke go peacefully and not at peace while getting killed by a bad guy. He deserves it.

Wait I thought Kennedy was already the Feige of Lucasarts. I may not be getting what you're getting at here.

God I HATE that part. All it would have taken is one of them to be like "Wait why am I spinning it around like an idiot again?" <STAB> and movie over.

Wow you must of seen the movie because that is exactly how that bit ends. Defensive posturing using force prediction, thats how I read that anyway, its not normal people sword fighting here.

I agree that it got a bit ridiculous at times, still feel there is a happy medium that is yet to be found between the OT and the PT. One that keeps the emotion but also without a doubt shows that Jedi/Sith are a step above random Storm Troopers with batons.

Also though, why didn't they have Phasma replace baton trooper in that scene, would of even helped the final scene enhancing Finn's shit talking.

Was the emperor super amazing compelling by the end of Empire?

Saw it for the second time. Love love this movie. Did any else get hit hard with the pure nostalgia emotions when Han first meets up with Leia when her ship lands? And the music kicks in? God I turn into a baby because its so beautiful.

Doubt it. They'd have to get into Infinite Empire EU stuff that they made noncanon. Then again, Rakata Prime was an archipelago world, wasn't it?

Rakata Prime is canon though since it is in the The Force Awakens Visual Dictionary, so its totally possible.

I just want KOTOR to become canon :(

We don't know how many were left when Ren betrayed them. Maybe some escaped, maybe some just abandoned their training and aren't yet full-fledged Jedi.

I liked that the film felt more war-sy then the other Star Wars films. An entire planet blew up in the first movie and no one cares after 10 minutes, but this movie was a lot more brutal. People screamed while their planet was getting destroyed, stormtroopers have physical wounds, the lightsabers actually look incredibly threatening, etc.

Wait I thought Kennedy was already the Feige of Lucasarts. I may not be getting what you're getting at here.

No; Kennedy's the CEO of the whole freaking company. All aspects, TV, movies, books, licensing, etc. She's also in charge of Indiana Jones. She's Perlmutter before the Feige power play; and she's not crazy like Perlmutter is.

Lucas hired Kennedy to replace him as being in charge of everything Lucasfilm / ILM / etc.

Shit I missed the Obi-wan cameo. When was that?

Sith were mention in the original novels first right?

He is heard saying "These are your first steps" after Alec Guiness' Obi Wan call out "Rey!!"

"Dark Lord of the Sith" was Vaders title in the novels, but it was fleshed out in the prequels. Maz enlists the threats to peace in chronological order starting with the sith.

I legit thought the helmet Rey put on was an Anakins helmet from phantom menace but then later in the film it hit me that it was a old rebels helmet and further remember that's she's on not-tattooine
