I really did think I'd hate BB-8 because of how hard they were pushing him. He turned out to be one of my favorite characters.

You can't fight his charm.

I was thinking that too. Dont you have to be born a Jedi from a Jedi?

Your parents don't have to be Jedis for you to be born Force sensitive.

So it is possible that her parents are just random unknown humans and Luke just discovered that she was strong with the Force much like Anakin.

What if... Rey is Kylos daughter? But everyone is afraid to tell her. Thats why Han is so nice to her.

I thought Han was nice to her because he felt shitty for leaving his daughter on that planet for her own safety and wanted to be a better father by offering her a job on the Falcon so they could be closer. We never found out what he and the bar owner said when they talked about Rey.

Han clearly knew more about Rey than he was letting on.

It's not about being angry. Don't know why you would think I am. It's about the fact that Kennedy understands that creative comes first so she stays involved to keep it on track. It was Kennedy that jettisoned Lucas's ideas for Ep 7.

Pearl utter just cares about money and could care less about creative integrity.

Kennedy knows that she is a facilitator and her job (as any good boss) is to give the people she hires the best chance to succeed. She keeps the suits out of the way and lets the creative people do their thing (see; much of the job of a producer). Feige appears to be much more hands on when it comes to the actual movie making; and Perlmutter is an asshole who I hope gets shitcanned by Disney before he fucks Marvel up irrevocably. I do wonder whether they asked Abrams to take the Feige role; but he declined due to other commitments.

Heh, I'm re-reading the Making of Star Wars, and it seems like Disney just took a lot of Lucas' original ideas for ANH and gave them a modern spin (Luke / Leia being a combined character, who is female, and Han being a black ex-stormtrooper who leaves the Empire). I also think that they publicly claimed they got rid of Lucas' old ideas to keep fans happy but kept a fair chunk of them in actuality.

Lucas had good general story beats - but was terrible at execution and attention to detail. He also hated writing and directing the movies (the Making of series goes into serious detail about this, it's one of the reason Lucas resents FOX immensely); and on the prequels, he didn't have anyone who could really tell him "no, this is a terrible idea".

I thought Han might be her dad for part of the film but overall i think there is a lot more clues she is Luke's

That scene is so disturbing. I kinda wish George didn't feel the need to go there, or at least imply it in some dialogue later instead of showing it. Yes, I understand we need to know that every Jedi is being hunted down, but this is just crazy.
Crazier when you realize Vader is on cereal boxes.

Yeah but I could see them doing it as a promotion. Battle of Jakku is in there.

What trailers did you guys get?

I got Warcraft, Civil War, Apocalypse, and something called The 5th Wave that I initially mistook for a District 9 sequel.

WC, CW, Apocalypse, Batman v. Superman (trailer spoiler)
Wonder Woman got a huge pop
, and I think one more movie that I can't remember.

Anakin was pretty fucked up thats for sure

The more I think about the movie the angrier I get that it was not 20-30 minutes longer. I know this is the second time I say this in this thread but damn it needs those 20-30 minutes with longer scenes that are not cut as fast.

I really want an extended edition.

Been hearing this from more than a few fans. I think it might be that Poe, Finn & Rey had a chance to bounce off each other on basically the same level in a way Luke, Han & Leia really didn't get to until much later in the movie. Luke spends a lot of his intro being yelled at or slightly condescended to by much older dudes, until he meets Han, who more or less disregards him entirely, and only after springing the Princess does their interplay really start to take off. That's like 90 minutes into the film.

With the Force Awakens, Poe flicks Kylo shit, bumps into Finn, and they hit it off great, until he bumps into Rey, which has them sparking, chemistry-wise... They basically don't meet any grumpy old fuckers looking to teach these whippersnappers a thing or two until about the 45 mark when Han Solo shows up.

It's hard for me to believe that anyone would think the forced chemistry of Finn and Rey is better than the real on-screen chemistry of Han, Leia, and Luke. Han and Leia had serious sparks, and Han and Luke had a snarky rivalry that naturally turned into a good friendship. Finn and Poe's overdone bromance starts almost immediately after they meet because Poe is an obnoxiously upbeat Disney cartoon character. Rey is great as a character, Finn is great as a character, but together there's not much chemistry aside from Finn acting thirsty the whole movie. Their good acting skills make me believe they care about each other as friends, even though there's no reason for them to act that way since they just met. So it feels artificial.

TL;DR – ANH's character interplay works because they develop friendships/feelings for each other naturally as the audience watches. In TFA, Abrams forces emotional arcs to be compacted into unrealistic timeframes because he's got a lot of shit to stuff into the movie.

Kathleen Kennedy is an honest to god Producer and is credited as such on TFA. Perlmutter is not (and is not credited as such on Marvel films).

This is what I'm cautiously looking forward to. A bluray extended edition release in 2016 which includes a bunch of new stuff. That'd be amazing.

Going by Star Trek '09's Blu-ray release, I feel there's gonna be a nice deal of deleted scenes.

Leia believed in him and asked him emphatically to do it, multiple times. Han didn't think he would succeed and plainly knew what the likely outcome would be when he yelled out his crazy-ass son's name at the bridge. Han isn't naive in the slightest. He steeled himself for what was to follow in that moment and walked forward.

He was taking responsibility as a parent and facing the personal demon of his own creation, after running away from the issue for years in the wake of Ben's turn, and also making a final gesture of his love for Leia by taking on her request.

So I guess going forward Rey is gonna fit both the lightsaber-wielding jedi and starship-pilot-with-alien-second-mate roles. Rey is literally Lonestar.

Doesn't feel forced to me. They're both characters that have never had a friend. The spark was there, makes sense they would be loyal to each other very quickly.

pretty much

Kylo Ren's gonna pull an Arthas. He's gonna keep going down that dark path until the very end and then Luke's gonna tell him what Vader told him at the end of RotJ and then Kylo's gonna walk it back when he dies.

Sadly I don't see it happening and rather this:

Which would be useless to me. I want a longer movie not bonus stuff >.<

Ah question..do we have a merchandise thread?

I said it before, I blame Leia for Hans death. She probably knew exactly what would happen. Still sour about their separation. Shes been seduced by the dark side for years.

Just another mishandled aspect of the PT.

Thats pretty damn spot on actually. Han probably looks the way he does during that scene because he likely knows he's going to die

Finn and Poe bromance to level up to unstoppable proportions in Ep8 to steal the spotlight.
