[SPOILERS] Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Thread #2) - One Thumb Up

Leia believed in him and asked him emphatically to do it, multiple times. Han didn't think he would succeed and plainly knew what the likely outcome would be when he yelled out his crazy-ass son's name at the bridge. Han isn't naive in the slightest. He steeled himself for what was to follow in that moment and walked forward.

He was taking responsibility as a parent and facing the personal demon of his own creation, after running away from the issue for years in the wake of Ben's turn, and also making a final gesture of his love for Leia by taking on her request.

Exactly how I saw it, Han is a gambler and knew the odds

I thought Han was nice to her because he felt shitty for leaving his daughter on that planet for her own safety and wanted to be a better father by offering her a job on the Falcon so they could be closer. We never found out what he and the bar owner said when they talked about Rey.

Han clearly knew more about Rey than he was letting on.

I dunno. Han isn't that much of a bastard. If he were her father, I think he would have just told her. It seemed more like him seeing a chance at making things right for a girl who didn't have parents, who is clearly capable, and has a good head on her shoulders. Maybe he saw in her the son he wish he brought up but failed at.

That scene is so disturbing. I kinda wish George didn't feel the need to go there, or at least imply it in some dialogue later instead of showing it. Yes, I understand we need to know that every Jedi is being hunted down, but this is just crazy.
Crazier when you realize Vader is on cereal boxes.

I instead find it hilarious.

Like all that was missing is for Anakin to go to a building labeled

"kitten orphanage" and turning on his lightsaber.

One thing I want to see in the coming films is Kylo own someone in a duel. He gets owned in this film and I want to see him truly curb stomp someone to show just how dangerous he is

Yeah, Hans death was obvious it was coming. That was a stressful scene. I was just anxiously waiting for it and when it happened my heart sank. Predictable yet still powerful.

Maybe he didn't tell her because he would have had to tell her more than she needed to know.

you are most likely right, I mean if han can admit his son is a sith and he fucked up being a parent, then I am sure he can say "Rey sorry for leaving you"

Kathleen Kennedy is an honest to god Producer and is credited as such on TFA. Perlmutter is not (and is not credited as such on Marvel films).

Not sure if you saw my edit; but I added in that greasing the wheels and keeping things running smoothly is the job of a producer - she rose the ranks due to all the amazing movies she produced and is now the dream CEO for most creative types - your head boss knows what the hell is going on and what to do. Perlmutter's just a cheap-ass suit

There are also a ton of producers for The Force Awakens, lol.

J.J. Abrams ... producer
Bryan Burk ... producer
Leifur B. Dagfinnsson ... line producer
Tommy Gormley ... co-producer
Tommy Harper ... executive producer
Lawrence Kasdan ... co-producer
Kathleen Kennedy ... producer
Jason D. McGatlin ... executive producer (as Jason McGatlin)
Michelle Rejwan ... co-producer
Ben Rosenblatt ... co-producer
John Swartz ... co-producer

As for the Han / Ben scene - the novelization actually goes into this deeper. Han actually debates not confronting Ben because he knows how this will probably end, but he has to try for Leia's sake (plus maybe a tiny bit of unwavering belief that he can get himself out of anything by hook or by crook).

He was going to beat up those two storm troopers, they sensed it and wisely turned the other way.

He was fighting with a pretty severe injury. Chewie shot him with a bazooka.

He showed how powerful he was when he stopped a blaster bolt in midair for like 5 minutes.

Didn't get spoiled beforehand, but as soon as Finn and Rey arrived on that balcony and Han yelled out to Kylo as he was walking on a long, ominous bridge across a dark, endless pit, I knew Han was about to die. That shit was telegraphed as fuck.

But that scene was so well-acted that even though Kylo mending his ways and going back with Han would've made no damn sense from a story building perspective, for a second I kinda believed that he might.

Yeah, I honestly expected it from the moment Leia tells him to bring their son back.

Even then, I was so in the moment I thought he would let go of that damn lightsaber hilt.
As soon as the sunlight faded and it went all dark though....I found myself holding my breath.

Man....what a movie...

This may have been posted already, but if not;

They cranked up the "These are nazis" imagery to 11 in this film.

And I would've liked to see what Phasma's face looked like when Finn was talking shit.

It seems like they cut out a scene in the beginning with Finn and Phasma which would have made the shit talking scene even more epic.

All I see is that kid probably worshiped Anakin and is in total shock at what is about to transpire.
Of course its just a movie and I am being over sensitive to a point. I can't deal to well with innocent kids getting slaughtered and imaging the horror of what transpired in what we were not shown. This is certainly not something I like in Star Wars.

I don't think killing your aged family members who clearly care for you and hold back is OP at all. :P

Haha I hear you I just mean from a viewer point of view. It would be like damn this guy just killed 2 of the most beloved hero's in the franchise. I think if Luke dies it will likely be someone other than Kylo that does it

Kylo comes off as a poser in this movie and I think that's intentional. Kylo losing to Rey/Finn, even if he was wounded/whatever, I think means Luke will job to Kylo so that Kylo can get more heat as a main-event guy.

If Kylo kills Luke I'll be upset, Snoke is the only one seemingly up to the task for how much they've hyped him. Especially since Kylo was losing to Rey and Finn (even if he was injured). Luke should be able to destroy Kylo after having all this time to hone his skills in isolation.

The movie had at that point turned into a black comedy to me. Yoda and the Emperor turned full Cirque Du Solei Wars and doing more flips than Roy in Green Arrow.

So the children part was just another shadow the edgehog "look so edgy and dark" to me. Just imagine that afterwards Anakin walked out of the building saw a patch of grass with a "don't step on grass" sign and then looks at the camera with a grinch smile.
