So does everyone else try to estimate how many games they can finish before the next sale? It seems like a waste to buy too many games since they'll likely be cheaper next time. So far I have picked up cities skylines and her story and civ complete. That seems like a few months worth of games.

Nope. Just buy all the games!!!

I treat my Steam account like my IRA. I make a contribution every month and prepare for my retirement...can't wait for 2060.

I haven't got around to buying anything this sale yet (still thinking about what I want and how much I want to spend) but usually I buy everything that I think I will play and is under £5.

Over that requires some more thought from me. I can be so indecisive when it comes to spending money...

Okay, this one isn't as niche as much as it's overlooked. Going to have misc recommendations on primarily horror games.

Penumbra Collector's Pack - $2.49

Made by the creators of Amnesia: The Dark Descent and SOMA, it's 3 games in one for the Penumbra series (Overture, Black Plague, Requiem, in that order). While their younger brothers Amnesia and SOMA get talked about a lot more, I've always felt the Penumbra games were more playfully fun and tenser experiences.

Penumbra stars a man going to Greenland after receiving a letter from his dad, who has been missing for years. The letter tells him to forget about him and order an entrance to a mine to be blown up. Our character, caught by left field, decides to instead first investigate said mines. And thus the apt, 'dark descent' begins!

Penumbra's story is told in three games, though maybe really only two (the third game, Requiem, was an expansion for Black Plague and has a minimal story and is completely puzzle-focused). Overture and Black Plague however takes us into the first-person mostly defenseless horror games Frictional has become known for, but honestly I've found it to be their best execution on the idea. Instead of becoming more a hide'n'seek simulator, you're given tools and environmental aid to tackle what the game throws at you; from beef jerky you can lay down to distract dog enemies, to boulders to push to block tunnels, pipes spewing steam, upper and lower pathways, and more. The monsters also come in a variety in Overture, and the game mixes itself often with different thematic rooms and areas, some thought-provoking puzzles, and strange moments and scare scenes. In Black Plague, there's also some fun surreal and illusion elements as you seem to be losing your mind and a strange, colorful character in your head talks and consults with you while messing with your perception.

I mainly recommend it as I think it's far overlooked to its brothers, and I honestly like them quite a bit. It feels a bit more 'gamey' than either Amnesia or SOMA, but I found it also more 'fun', more varied, and and honesrtly it scared me overall a bit more. With the larger variety it kept me guessing a lot more and doesn't become too predictable, a flaw I had with Amnesia later in. If for some reason you haven't played it and don't mind a first-person horror game, or especially if you liked Amnesia, maybe SOMA, I'd recommend it. Also, it's two and a half dollars for two and a half games.

Again, hope some find these useful and will be posting more. Mobile makes it slow for me.

I'm going to plug Grim Dawn for those who enjoy ARPG hack-and-slash games like Diablo. It's currently 40% off, bringing it to $14.99. Several of its developers are the same people who worked on Titan Quest if anyone is familiar with that also great ARPG (which is $4 for the game and its expansion - pick this up too!). It's still in early access but the devs are aiming to be content complete in the next build release (which should be 1-3 months). Despite that I've already invested hundreds of hours into it and could invest hundreds more.

This doesn't have couch co-op, does it? If so, for the people in the know, are there plans for it?

Couch co-op was the best part of Diablo III, by far.

Does anyone own Fairy Fencer on Steam? How is the port? On par with the Neptunia games? At that price its pretty tempting.
Port is good. No PC-specific graphics options, but also no artificial limitations. And it has great performance and basically instant load times.

So yeah, it's just like the Neptunia games (same engine too presumably).

I don't believe it does, nor do I recall there being any plans for it. Maybe it'll be added in the future or from a player mod since I do recall them having plans on opening the game up for modders. The co-op in it now is online and LAN.

So I think it's gonna be:

Undertale
Her Story
Darkest Dungeon

and possibly: Cities Skylines (GMG), and After Dark (Amazon)

for me. I think I've just about given up on getting AAA games, I'll almost never have time to play them and they never go down enough that I want to buy them and not play them right away.

I think I've actually seen more things I want this year than last.

Picked up:
Sunless Sea (Played a bit and really digging the dialogue and atmosphere. Interesting take on a rogue lite)

Lisa (Really digging this one. Played a few hours last night. Awesome music and just great in general for $2.50!)

Aviary Attorney (Love Phoenix Wright series and the art style on this made it a must purchase.)

Dark Souls (Already have on PS3 but for $5 I need it on PC)

Undertale (Seems to be one of the must plays this year. I'll probably play it after Lisa.)

Well, that's good to know then. Thanks.

How's the pacing in this? Titan Quest had way too much empty space for an ARPG and movement was rather slow as well, completely ruined it for me.

The majority of AAA games seem to target a demographic of 12-15. Once you realize you are well outside that demo, you start to move on quite quickly.

The nice thing is there are plenty of indie and middle-budget games on PC that target a specific audience.

You're totally gonna die. Only question is whether or not you eat your whole crew beforehand.

I buy at 85%+ almost reflexively. There is no thought involved.

Dammit, I read this post and thought oh, that looks really good...and it's already in my library.
I'd recommend playing it at some point, this one is less niche as it is overlooked. It was Frictional's first forray into games, and I think the ambition lead to them making them more varied experiences. For Overture, I really liked the setting, while Black Plague I loved the surreal twists and mind games.

The movement can be a bit slow which is somewhat an issue because I'm constantly wearing lower level gear with movement+% stats to alleviate it. And if you don't play on Veteran Mode then there's going to be fewer enemies to smash. I think it's fine though since it allows me to turn off Veteran when I just want to run through the quests. If you didn't like Titan Quest very much then I'm afraid you'd probably not enjoy Grim Dawn either. I'd maybe wait for it to be $10 if I felt that way before giving it a try (despite how much I want this game to do well).

Haha, already did. A shady guy asked me to transport some souls somewhere and I couldn't find the place. Came back to port and the authorities searched my ship and then confiscated pretty much everything I had. Then got transported to some strange realm and yeah, that was it...

Thanks for the recommendation, will definitely take a look.

Ya, you can set the stores you want globally in Settings > Store Settings, or you can set it per item on your list (edit).

yeah i figured out how it worked yesterday night after asking around here but they seem to not have any of the nuuvem sales, only 11 games from nuuvem total show up which is way less that there's actually on sale

really weird

i guess i'll have to double check manually tomorrow when i have some free time

Didn't want to get too much as GW2 takes up a large chunk of my time.

-Exanima (most excited about this one)
-SW: Kotor II
-C - Wars
-Oniken

$7 left in the steam wallet...will prob vanish by the time i write this up.

I am so, so interested in Exanima, I just can't bring myself to pick it up without a discount. Maybe it'll go cheaper later in the week, but I doubt it :(
I'd love to hear about your experience with it.

Decided to get Burnout Paradise: The Ultimate Box. Anyone liking it?

Didn't really try to play the single player, but it's so much fun online if you can find a friend or two to play with. Just cruisin around, wrecking shit up and occasionally doing actual events.

Personally I would stick to Path of Exile. While Titan Quest and Grim Dawn are good games, Path of Exile is the best in the genre since Diablo 2 and has a huge player base and constant updates / leagues. FREE TO PLAY as well for the entire game. Only cosmetic/extra stash space IAP.

Not the best discounts out there, but I just bought this solid bunch of games from my wishlist:

Armello
Axiom Verge
Darkest Dungeon
Invisible, Inc
Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky
Undertale

So ... Top 3 local coop steam games that are are on sale and are not Towerfall, Battleblock Theatre, Rocket League and Castle Crashers ?

What's up with the anime games? Suddenly they decided to take 10 hours to idle.
rczu7h7.png

Now it looks like I actually played the game.

Personally i liked it a lot. I thought it was funny, the story was interesting enough to want to keep playing, the characters were likable (allthough the protagonist started to annoy me a little as time went by) and the battle system was decent. I am suprised it is not more popular.

It's a very silly JRPG. I had a lot of fun with it, just don't expect anything deep (or with high production values).

Thanks for the opinions. Decided to buy it, let's embrace the waifus.

My recommendation list continues, going from older to newer games of more niche nature and mostly the horror sort.

Eversion - $2.49

...Okay, so Eversion. It's a cute 2D platform where you play as a flower-looking thing off to save a princess. It has the most basic of platformer controls; you move, you jump, and that's it! ...Or, well, there is one other thing... You can do something known as 'everting.' Press X in specific locations, and you evert.

Honestly, this game is best to go into it knowing as little as possible, so if the above sounds interesting enough to you, then delve into it. Slight minor spoilers ahead, though.

When you find ripples, you press X and evert, which takes you to a different version of the same level. Each level has multiple 'layers' that you can jump between to complete stages, collect gems, etc. Each layer also has unique properties I won't spoil.

It's not an insanely long game, maybe an hour or two, few multiple endings and secrets. Real goal of the game is to collect all the gems and beat it, which unlocks the true final stage. Nice little experience and includes a level editor. Recommending it can be hard, but maybe for those who like the sound of a bit of a twisty little platformer.
