Just wanted to throw in a plug for Dino Run DX, currently at a nifty sub-$5 price during the winter seal (I had a sub-$5 gift card balance burning a hole in my pocket ...).

It's hooking me in similar fashion as Downwell, which is high praise. It's a bit of a horizontal runner - I would just recommend checking out the Steam page videos and screenshots to see if you think it's your thing or not. I'm loving it.

Looks like I'll be focusing on indies for this seal. Have my Crawl, Duck Game and Kero Blaster on my hitlist. Would love to get Helldivers but not sure if it will run on my laptop and of course, it's not on seal right now.

So this is what this sale practice is doing. Im actually playing video games. You know, actually presing the play button and doing stuff.

I'm debating whether or not to pick up Pillars of eternity. It's at a nice price for the base game but then I'd need/want to add on the dlc pass which is sadly not on sale as far as I can tell. Plus I'm guessing they'll bundle it all together at some point when the second half of the dlc comes out. Pillars looks like everything I want out of a game though so I keep waffling back and forth on it.

Do multiple playthroughs still feel enjoyable as you start getting into your 3rd or 4th character?
from my experience so far you can get some replay mileage mostly out of choosing a different class and playing with a different set of companions. you get all your companions fairly early, specially if you don't do any quests and then you can try different combinations etc.

quests tho are fairly straightforward and while they'll branch a bit there's usually just one choice at the end and that's about it. there's stealth and dialogue you can use as alternative solutions to problems but those are usually available regardless of your class

there's a reputation system also that i haven't seen play into effect so far but i'm guessing it'll be more important later on since i'm fairly "early" in the game

but mostly it's the class stuff, there's a TON of variety in how you play the game because of how little restrictions the systems place on you. you can be a mage that uses a musket or a druid with a giant mace or a cleric with two daggers or whatever, it's awesome.

also the game's really really big, i'm about done with the first big city and it's at 40ish hours. i haven't even spent any time in the huge dungeon at the keep you get early on and i haven't progressed much in my companions' quests either. you're gonna get your money's worth from the main game for sure

it's a fantastic game, go for it 100%

Which Mount & Blade to get? I've always wanted to try one
warband is the best base game and has the best mods so get warband

also mount & blade is the best thing ever

The DLC isn't that expensive and I like Viking stuff. Really not worth it?
my friend that contends he's a real life viking plays with the viking dlc and he's happy with it

i'm not a fan of the multiplayer in general but it's like 3 dollars so go for it if u want

But you've already been waiting months, maybe years in some cases, for the games you want to drop to a price point that suits you. How can a day or two more possibly matter?

1 side to it is that it no longer makes every day exciting. I do miss 12pm my time when the new dailies popped up. It's also nice when your game went to the daily that you've been waiting for.

But it isn't usually a day or 2, it's almost 2 weeks. Most of the time, it doesn't matter much. Just if your friends got it and you want to play with them or you've been waiting to get it for some time. Most of the popular games on sale in my case hasn't been years, but months for sure. Also, just because you waited that time doesn't mean it's easy to then wait a few more days or so :P

Im really starting to delve down the deep and dark rabbit hole that is the steam marketplace. I've already cleared out my trading card inventory and thinking about some of my dota stuff next. Need. More. Games.

Shoutout Jshackles for idlemaster

I agree with Lurker and Zkylon, Warband.

The deep dark hole is when you start 'investing' in cases that have a high likelihood of showing a decent ROI.

Can anyone explain why the Fallout Classic Collection is 10€ whereas it's 2,49€ a piece for all three? I should have bought the collection in the autumn sale when it was 5€.

edit: or was that GMG with the 5€ collection? Can't remember.

The first trivia's stumping me, the first person present form in french doesn't fit into the answer for the calc at all. Is this thing regional?

I'm going to be surprised who get's this trivia, can we vote to make trivia giveaways multi-entry?

The game still has a good 70 hours of content, so I wouldn't worry about it too much if you want to play it now. I'm waiting until both DLCs are out before I pick them up myself.

Thanks to both of you for your thoughts ^-^

It's up to you. I haven't actually played them, but I've not heard good things about the spinoffs. (i.e. everything after Warband, made by studios other than Taleworlds.)

There are plenty of mods for Warband and the Nords themselves are basically vikings. I'm confident the base game will be enough.
with fire and sword is ok, nothing stellar and it feels like not much more than a mod (and it kind isn't) but i still had fun with it and its funny bugs

haven't bothered with the rest

at this point i just want mount & blade 2, i played that game so fucking much i'm ready to move on to the next real evolution of the series

Yup.

Instead of randomly buying 20 games and then promptly forgetting about half
all but one
of them, I actually sat down and played Endless Legend last night, one of my two purchases.

I'm quite digging the No Flash/No Daily format.

Yesssssssssssssssssss!

Get hyped.

i'm not gonna argue against it but personally i find floris a bit bloated. too many features and stuff i don't care much about

i mostly played and play with diplomacy installed and that's it

makes me so happy they're still using that papyrus esque font

I'll admit that not everything in there is great, but parts of it are essential to me (mostly large scale battles and unit balance)

Any space games worth picking up? I already have Independence Wars 2 and Freespace 2.

Until the new batch of space games come out, Freespace 2 is still the king =/
If your thirst is real, you can make do with Strike Suit Zero.
It's no Freespace, but it's something.

Any space games worth picking up? I already have Elite, Independence Wars 2 and Freespace 2.

Elite Dangerous or Rebel Galaxy

Elite is more sim & Galaxy more arcade.

There the Homeworld Remastered collection as well.

And Kerbal Space Program.

My order would be Kerbal >> Galaxy >>>>> everything else.

I can understand why some prefer the old format but I love the new drop and spend approach. And yes, I was someone who had the phone app on standby and waited for every daily and flash deal in past years. It could be exciting but I just want the deals and naturally, it is much easier in this current configuration.

Besides, my backlog is so full and wishlist so slight, the timing for the change is particularly agreeable for my situation.

Anti derivatives are always more fun.

f''(x) is 6x^3. What is f(x)?

edit edited into this quote by quote:
3/10 x^5 if my calc knowledge is correct

((3x^5)/10) + Cx + D

After the brutal climb through Calculus 3, the return to 1 fills me with a sense of nostalgia and the vague remembrance of how it felt equally as hard as this back when i first learned it.

edit:
oh snap you forget the "+C", are you ready to lose ALL OF THE POINTS??? hnnngh the memories are flooding back to me

actually thinking about it i initially forgot to integrate the first "+C" myself - OH NO

I'll admit that not everything in there is great, but parts of it are essential to me (mostly large scale battles and unit balance)
unit balance i found to be a bit iffy, specially since they added so many variations and evolutions and whatnot that it just gave me a headache to go through it lol

the large scale stuff you can use the large scale battles mod alone and that's kind of it

but yeah to each their own, i prefer diplomacy because i enjoy the balance in the game already and don't need it to be any more complex

someone else might want to and that's great then

What does Floris actually do? The description talks about everything but what the mod actually is.
it's a huge mod compilation. rebalances units, adds new ones, lets you give better commands, continue fighting even if you're felled, etc. most of the diplomacy stuff is in there too with like warping to town elders, better cattle ai and all that crap

it's a good mod if you want to revitalize the game for sure

I had the exact same thought.

The only thing that could make it better is the return of Zendar.
didn't know about that, that would be kind of funny indeed

i really dig the unintentionally funny sound effects and groans so i hope those stay. part of the charm of mount & blade for me are those silly things of like 6 character models in the whole game and how ridiculous dialogue is and how crazy situations happen all the time and all of that

seeing it become like a proper game would lose some of that charm for me so seeing them not back out on things like the hilarious papyrus font is AWESOME

It's pretty different but Rebel Galaxy was my favorite game this year.

i kinda want to play that one since it feels like it has the most rpg elements and maybe doesn't require a flight stick to be enjoyable?

not sure if i'll like it tho

I liked the original SOL Exodus game. I believe there is a sequel out there. Doesn't seem very popular but I did put in a few hours in it.

Star Wars: Starfighter has been my most recent (yet old) space game jam.

I hope they aren't focussing on optimizing a game that is already available on PC.

.

That isn't really the point. It doesn't matter if the game is already available on PC or not, it matters what they win from optimizing it. Making it run well and fixing graphical glitches benefit the emulator as a whole and make it so it's more accurate in general.

unit balance i found to be a bit iffy, specially since they added so many variations and evolutions and whatnot that it just gave me a headache to go through it lol

That's option 1 out of the 3.
I use option 2.

1 is the giant evolution tree (nice for high variety, but ends up complex as shit)
2 is a streamlined version of 1 with less units but keeps the uniqueness brought by 1
3 is nearly vanilla with small modifications

Kinda regretting doing my GOTY list early, as I think Aviary Attorney might have deserved a slot, provided it finishes as well as it starts. Fantastic experience so far.

So I can't keep trying the trivia, going to see Transiberian Orchestra in a little while with family. I'll give what I have for the trivia answers and calc thus far:

O: 24x^2 + 2
G: 2x is always increasing
N: sin(x); plug into wolfram alpha to check
N: -32sin(2x); wolfram alpha
O: 4x+7
O: 2 (depends on if you're looking at real or imaginary part)
D: (-1,0) and (1,0)
D: 2 (if you're going with strictly the minimums, which are f(x) = 0 at x=1,-1
D: Yes - if you're dongsmacabre
