Any thoughts on Blackguards? I heard some good things about it, but the reviews seem kinda mixed... Are the games worth it? If so, should I go for Blackguards or head straight to Blackguards 2 (Blackguards is 90% off right now, Blackguards 2 80%)?

It's an combat RPG, meaning it's nothing but combat for the most part. The combat is actually pretty fun despite the game having an obvious low budget. It's very challenging tho. So challenging in fact that i never completely finished it (Chapter 4 out of 5) because my characters werent minmaxed enough.

So, only buy it if you want a challenge. But if you do, this game is recommended.

I think ill grab this also because of GAF,but I hope its not a Meatboy,Hotline Miami,Ori type of game, meaning its hard as hell because I have no patience for stuff like this anymore lol...and by looking at the trailer on Steam on the game page,it's hard to figure out what kind of game this is...I dont want to search more in case of spoilers or anything,so I am going blind...I mean what the hell,it's 10 bucks,no big deal if its one of those great games I am not skilled enough to play ;)

It's not. There's one game path that has 2 incredibly hard boss fights but is very unlikely a first time player will end up on the path.

I wish companies would actually stick to a naming scheme in Steam:

Glad I'm not too obsessed with that stuff, but some of it reminds me of that Monk DVD set:

That's just fucking evil. Isn't Monk a show about a guy with OCD?

Yes Steam, I do enjoy shmups. No Steam, shmups are not the only games I want to play.
Half of my discovery queue is shmups and twin stick shooters. Show me some arcade racers already.

I was thinking, last year we got One Finger Death Punch (and a year before that pac-man championship, no less fun), the game so immensely fun that I never have seen anyone post that it's not fun (totally was on my GOTY list last year, yeah), but we got nothing as fun this year or did we? I doubt I would have missed something like this, but maybe I did?

Stay away from Blackguards 2, unless you like your RPGs streamlined and somewhat guided (in which case there are better games to throw your cash at). Blackguards 1 on the other hand is a pretty brutal tactical RPG that (I think) does a grand job at throwing one interesting, varied and challenging battle encounter after another at you from the very get-go. A dizzying skill tree to build your characters around. The story is shite, but it's told in nothing but skip-overable interstitial cutscenes that never really get in the way even if you opt to indulge them. Dunno, it's not a flashy game at all, but if you specifically like turn-based combat and are willing to put some thought into a character build, you can do much worse (the real issue is that there are so many great turn-based games available right now). My main fault with the game is that it's heavily dice driven (being based on a pen&paper system) and I don't think it does a good job in making the player feel like they 'own' their roll, which can make bad RNG frustrating.

So my haul so far:

Grim Dawn (finally feature complete aw yiss)
The Next Penelope (holy fuck it's good, good arcade racer'y shooty fun with some amazing art and music)
Guacamelee Turbo because I wanted to replay the game and I figure I might as well get the extra content

Rocket League? :P

Any thoughts on Big Pharma?

I really like the look of it. I've heard good things from a select few people (whose opinions I trust). Seems like NO fucker is talking about it.

I think I've seen 100% positive impressions for Invisible Inc (within the usual circles I run at least). Well deserved. That thing is laser-honed, precision design. It's gaddam beautiful.

Hm.. As someone with some experience in the pen & paper side of the dark eye, I have to say I hate min/maxing in this system :( I guess I will give Blackguards 1 a shot anyways, 90% off is just too tempting and there are worse ways of spending 4 € :) Thanks guys!

Not an arcadey game, but everyone had fun with Contradiction.

Yeah, for that price it's worth it even if you run into a brick wall eventually. It does a good job ( 'good' for some mindsets) of pretty liberally throwing encounters at you where you try it and then go "what the fuck, no, that's crazy, fuck that" then you try it a few more times and 'solve the puzzle' so to speak and feel real good about yourself. That's a very specific perspective on difficult encounter design though, which isn't for everyone, especially when even your very best laid plans can frequently get scuppered by a tiny text box in the corner of the screen quietly whispering one failed roll after another.

nghhh Flywrench is fucking incredible

I loved the original and this is crack

I can't believe it aint more popular. barely any reviews on the store page.

For those of you that already well familiar with the sales, and also bother to craft the holiday sale badges, you will know that trading for the cards that you need can sometimes be a pain. Usually I can find big Steam trading threads with people quickly trading amongst themselves, but not this time for some reason. So I quickly made my own here. Hopefully it will become more active, and be as useful as previous card trading threads in past sales.

I'd argue Downwell is this year's arcadey hit like One Finger and Pac Man. It's also super cheap like One Finger.

Should I wait for the Android version? I feel like that would be a good game for on the go.

I forgot I need three step authentication now for trading.

How long is Her Story? I really don't know what to play right now but I'm leaving town for about a week starting tomorrow morning, so I'm kinda looking for a ~4 hour game I can play tonight.

Yeah, agreed. That game is really pretty from a "shit, why didn't I think of that?" perspective. It does what it sets out to do exceptionally well, with some really elegantly simple (clever!) systems.

2-4 hours. Can solve the main mystery on the lower end, and most of the other more interesting stuff by 4 hours. Achievement whores can probably eek it out to 5 or 6.

So killing floor 2...worth it? and what game is it comparable too?

Somewhat similar to Left 4 Dead, but more holding your ground oriented rather than forward momentum like that series.

The first game is still popular and been on sale a million times so you might be able to find a copy cheap somewhere.
