Play it with a controller or not at all. 360 degree movement and variable speed are really necessary--precision is key.
KB&M is possible, but far, far from ideal. The default keybinds are bananas.
Third-person squad-based cover shooter? Sounds like Binary Domain to me.
For some reason I thought it was held back so as not to release before HL2. My mistake.
Dark Messiah is the HL3 we've all been waiting for.

I watched a stream of this the other day. Cool concept but it's so incredibly janky and barebones. Early Access though, so hopefully they'll sew up a lot of the bad visual feedback.

I'll keep an eye out for a basic controller then during my vacation. Would DS3/360 wireless work well with either 8.1 or 10? Been some time since I was involved at all with PC gaming.
Why would they even do that? I mean the original sprites were better, but that isn't awful.
The bilinear filter makes it look terrible!

How's Axiom Verge compared to Guacamelee, Ori, and other games of its type?
I use a wireless PS3 controller with a mini-usb connection, you just need a third party program to make it work with x-input though.
even more like Metroid
I don't know what this says about the games but I 100%'ed Guacamelee and got every achievement and I stopped playing both Axiom Verge and Ori when some other stuff came out
that's probably just me being dumb tho, they're all great games. I even bought Axiom Verge on release ¯\_(ツ

I've found the Anno games are good casual games like that. Technically building a city but it's not like Cities Skylines or something where you're meticulously planning things, it's all about building your corporation up.
I just finished 2205. It's a fairly laid back experience. It has "rival" corporations, but they don't do anything but increase their own level so they will be slightly harder to buy out. There's some very light (and not good) RTS elements here or there but most can be skipped by just leveling up your corporation.
They are very structured games so they're not really all that replayable, but a single campaign will last a while.
Heard a lot of good things about Factorio and Big Pharma too, but not sure how casual they are.
It's much uglier.
That's all I know for sure, I haven't played it yet but I want to soon. Oh I also know there is a stupid frustrating boss later in the game, I read that somewhere

That's the impression I got from the Steam trailers. Is it really good? I'm having a hard time finding anything else to buy just yet since I actually am working through my backlog but more Metroid is always good.
edit: read your edit and Rhaknar's thoughts, maybe I'll just stick with Mushi then.

yeah The Empire TV Tycoon would be more like the movies, no building just pure sim of running a TV channel.
Also I know it's building but Prison Architect is a damn fine game.

Whereas I'd rank it Ori > Axiom Verge > Guacamelee.
Axiom Verge just feels a lot more like Super Metroid than the others. Exploration and world-wise it's just more akin to that and the style of gameplay just feels more 16-bit.
It's pretty great, honestly, but I'd prefer to go through Ori again. Axiom Verge has the best secrets and puzzles of those three by far.
I said it's uglier than the other 2, not that it's ugly.
Even tho I do think it's ugly as sin, I hate it's look
That has nothing to do how it functions as a metroid game, which is why I want to play it

I think this is the first steam sale where all of my purchases are from the same series. I blame Star Wars The Force Awakens since I just bought KOTOR 1 +2, Force Unleashed and Battlefront 2. Never had any of them and only tried them occasionally at friend's houses so we'll see how well this goes for me.
