2. Does the First Order base Kill it's sun? Does it then travel to new systems? Did that one sun give it 2 volleys? Does it simply drain the sun then it reignited over time? Ambiguous. A solid answer would be nice.

I thought this was shown quite badly. The obvious take away from the dialogue is that it completely drains the star before it fires, yet there was no indication given that it actually moved at any time, and therefore nothing to indicate it drained more than one star.

Perhaps they realised the implications to the surface of a planet if it was drifting in interstellar space, so simply avoided having to deal with that by ignoring it.

NOPE! It's one of the bigger problems in the editing of this film. A lot of information regarding the political machinations and basics of the enemy's plans and abilities got cut out in the rush to get the film down to 2:15.

Also, the io9 description seems to be wrong; I think that the 'Starkiller' targets stars (not planets) in different systems, with a payload that stealth/magically/hyperspace-travels to its target. Payload appears near its target-star, star goes supernova, system gets wiped out.

Watched this last night and enjoyed it despite having to share a cinema with antisocial asshats who seem to exist solely to annoy other people.

Couldn't get past 'Poe' and 'Snoke' though. They sound like Teletubbies or Banana Splits.

Edit: cinema was 95% empty despite the 8pm screening, which surprised me.

I'd like to actually read the novelization before making an assumption like you're making though. IO9 might have meant the star, or they may simply be using inaccurate terms and the explosion destroys the planet and its moons. Either way, it's meaningless in terms of canon since it doesn't match what's shown on screen.

It's a beautiful place but to me it felt a tad too... terrestial. Combined with helicopter shot (yes, I know that's been beaten to death) it really took me out of the movie. Even when I saw that final shot on the gifs that have been floating around the Internet it just doesn't feel like 'a galaxy far far away' any more.

Though hell, maybe I'm nitpicking.

Well, I was more referring to the fact that the novelisation-Starkiller uses dark matter and appearently describes it's payload 'appearing' near its target via sub-hyperspace travel. And yes, I think io9 meant the star instead of planet (since the term 'supernova' is a star-related term); and that just an exploding planet would not necessisaraly (or instantly) wipe out a system. But yeah, we're just assuming, and io9-mixups aside, I hope they expand on it somewhere/sometime (starwars.com's database doesnt contain much info)

About Rey's father, I don't think any of the possibilities would satisfy me.

Being Luke's is too safe and predictable. On the other hand, I don't like the idea of the Skywalker bloodline dying.

Being a Solo wouldn't work. I don't think it's happening.

Same with Kenobi. I would enjoy that since it would surprise the audience and give an interesting symbolism to the whole thing, but I think it's impossible to do it in a way it doesn't sound completely ridiculous.

So what probably will happen is that Rey is not related to anyone we know. Instead, she will give birth to the next Skywalker. That way the bloodline lives on. I don't think Ben has any shot with her, so you know what that means. Don't pretend you didn't see the look on Luke's face. ;D

Some people say Abrams added nothing to the Star Wars mythos with this film but I think he did at least give more substance to the Jedi religion thing that was barely alluded to by Tarkin and his subordinate in the OT. Max von Sydow's character was a follower of the "Church of the Force", Luke was seeking the first Jedi temple, Skellig Michael IRL is the location of a Christian monastery, Kylo's lightsaber is a crusader-style broadsword, etc. In the OT we basically saw two monks (Ben and Yoda) but the actual religious aspect was never explored.

I doubt they will drop the bloodline for good. It's too sacred at this point. They could do it, but I don't think it's going to happen any time soon.

It's actually tactically smarter than a Death Star. Build it on some abandoned planet far fucking away and unload when needed.

Just the mechanical part requires a lot more materials and labor (Then there's all of the excavating.) than a Death Star and a Death Star is a lot more useful. The Death Star gets the planet-killing job done and has a much higher rate of fire. It's fast enough to make using it on individual ships practical.

As I see it, it is in a fixed position. The star regenerates.

Yeah Finn was a great character (all of the main new ones were tbh) I like the misdirection they did in the marketing with Finn, as all of the trailers made it look like he would become a Jedi, with all the lightsaber action he gets, but nope he isn't a force user (at least it seems that way)

Rey was my favorite new character though, she is clearly going to be at the center of the main overall plot and the has the most mystery about her, but she was very likable, which makes me care and want to know more about her (still think she will be Luke's kid)
