I'm surprised at how completely the lack of daily and flash deals has destroyed my interest in Steam sales.

It's turned a once fun event with excellent deals and lots of purchased games into a disappointing afterthought after the first hour once I've realized that all the games I am interested in either have no discount at all or have weaker deals than they have elsewhere or even in the past on Steam.

What a let down.

Thank you very much, I'll do a bit more searching around the web and if it proves fruitless I'll have to request a refund. She'll be a bit gutted but luckily I plan to upgrade her PC in a few months time anyway. I was hoping this could be something to keep her busy untill then.

If you're willing to forego the discount, you could pick up one of the vanilla keys from Humble. Assuming these keys were generated prior to the release of the EE, they should grant both the vanilla game and the EE in Steam.

Oh wow realtime.

I wonder if it will take shorter time to emulate ps4/xbox one as they share a more similar architecture to a pc than the old power PCs.

Because it's still like ~10 years since the xbox360/ps3 came out and it's now they're making some big emulation progress

Lots of people on GAF like to tell me that cdkeys.com is legit so if you want to use that site you can snag it for $15

I'm not sure many people say they are legit. What you will hear over and over again though is that they are very reliable and have good customer support. Almost like an opposite compared to most other similar sites.

I'm considering buying my dad a game on this sale. He loves puzzle games, things like Mah Jong, Chess, Sudoku. Back in the days of old when he used to play he loved Sokoban, Boulder Dash, and Lemmings. I'm sure there are many great indie games he would love but I'm out of touch with these kinds of games. All recommendations would be welcome.

As already suggested, Spacechem, Hexcells trilogy and Squarecells.

Also these games:

Oh wow realtime.

Isn't it running faster than on original console already?

How does burnout paradise compare to forza horizon 2? I loved fh2. Will I love burnout? Are they similar?

paradise feels more like an arcade racing game. i know FH2 isn't exactly a simulator but feels more realistic. i'd say it's closer to NFS than Horizon. paradise is just racing around the map at break neck speeds, drifting, and trying to get other cars to crash. where as FH2 you can drive sports cars and go as fast as you like or use a different type of vehicle to slow things down a bit.

paradise is fun but i prefer FH2.

Huh? Where's that happening?

I switched over to the chinese store since I keep getting problems using my chinese paypal on the us store.

I hope I won't have any issues accessing the games I buy after I have paid for them on my account? anyone?

I can't seem to get games bought any other way and things do look possibly cheaper for me from what I saw earlier. I have a shit ton of half life , other game bundles has to be over 100 games and I'm barely over 60 bucks.

The 11 game bundle can be selected when you choose a tomb raider game.

For me it says 31 rmb for all the games on steam plus some dlc items I beleieve. That is all the old titles that are on pc, plus the 2013 one, the smaller recent games. The remakes etc

31 rmb comes out near 5 bucks.

From what I feel the conversion for me looks like I save another 10 to 15 percent on a few things here and there. I hope they aren't fucked on my account somehow but I don't see why they would be.

It isn't easy to do this anyways, I am in china and you do need a chinese bank account. I don't have an american card that is still good now.

Hmm, alright, might pass on it then.

Thanks a lot for your help!

Merry Christmas Happy Holidays SteamGAF regulars, newcomers, filthy code grabbing lurkers and permanently banned hangers on.

I am new and I must say as a guy who loves consoles these prices and deals (and games I can't get on console) are amazing.

i hope all he games run and look as well as I imagine (i hate when pc games seem to run super bad on console myself) A few had a lot of frame rate issues and looked ugly . Talking about recent releases

And honestly, after Sony's ps2 cross buy issue. This is what pushed me over the edge. Thank you Sony.

Yeah, same here. I'm finding this decision to be kinda "meh" at best. I guess the one upside is I don't feel a lot of pressure to buy quickly so I'm basically not buying much of anything yet. I do like the idea that I don't have to worry about missing a sale price. But the pricing just isn't there like in most prior Steam sales. I hope this is only a temporary problem and not a new normal.

I may pop for a 4-pack of Project Zomboid if some GAFers want to jump in together, but otherwise not feeling this sale. Overall, the sale prices are disappointing across the board with a few exceptions since I'm noticing that lot of the game prices have been lower during previous sales (per Enhanced Steam).

Anybody know what the cards do yet? There isn't a list that I saw so I'm not sure if you can craft a badge with them or what. So far I have duplicate #3's and #11's.

After checking the discounts, I really have to say that th discounts arent really that great. I have a lot of games, that are more than half a year old that just have like 20-30% discounts.

AAA games, that might have 75% discounts in a daily or flash sale before are at maybe 40-50%.

That's a heartwarming #4theplayers story. Welcome.

In your badge page under the holiday sale 2015, you will find the menu to see your cards for the current holiday event, and if you can craft them or not.

Cards are used for trading, selling or crafting badges. If you don't want to craft then sell them. Free money! \o/

I can see where it may not be great for people who own a lot of games. Good for new buyers though. :)

I don't see any prices on newer games that entice me, but old stuff looks great.

This is kind of the way of Steam sales, now. In fact, it's been happening for a couple years now, I'd say. Veterans find the sales to be lacking. New folks find them to be great.

New buyers wont notice the difference, but really before we had the daily and flash sales, so a game that was 50% before, could have be 75%.
E.G. Dragon Ball Xenoverse could be 50% during the sale and 75% during a daily/flash.

Also older games usually were 60, 66% or 75% off and a lot of games now are more at about 20-30%.

Yeah. I think the dailies and flash sales had me curious about what was coming and forced me to make decisions on what to buy....now I'm just not as interested.

Paint it Back is a really good picross game (own this one on iOS) Very unique as far as puzzle designs/paintings are concerned!

yes, I can see the issues some guys have here. Some prices are near console like pricing when it sholdn't be but still some really nice stuff out there from time to time from what I see . Even though I don't buy the games I have always sort of lurked a bit on the prices and what was going on.

I really think steam and pc is an amazing thing (even though I have always been on consoles)

I think it's great to have the ability to always have access to your games and to have the best looking and best playing versions along with all the other benefits of pc gaming.

I am really a big console gamer, I admit that to you guys very openly but my god I need some Deus Ex, Half life along with a stable platform in my life. I LIKE these games and I am tired of waiting for the console guys to finally give them to me.

It will also be good to get some higher resolutions and frames. Just want to get my stuff set up to a tv and a nice controller here and there when I want to relax a bit.

I'll still get games on console no doubt, just to have them and when they are warranted but it's nice to have the games on PC for when I want some peace of mind in the actual service and platform.

Which is absolutely a good thing. Rather than being pressured into making a choice and spending money you don't have, you can browse at your leisure and pick up discounts.

It's crazy how ingrained the cynical marketing ploy of 'flash sales' is in our psyche, that we've decided that the lack of them is boring.

Debating whether or not Revelations 2 Deluxe edition at $18 (With the 20% off voucher) is a good idea from GMG. Someone feel free to convince me otherwise. By my calculations it'd cost $18.92 if i bought Episode 1 and then each subsequent episode individually.

To me its not about whether its boring or not, but it kinda seems the discounts arent that great like they used to be.
It feels like, because publishers/devs dont have that one day or 12 hours, where they could set the discount at 75%, they just set it as 50% and wouldnt want thee game to be on 75% for 2 weeks.

I disagree. I think people have just gotten used to the idea of games getting steep discounts, so much so that it's just an inevitable part of PC gaming. Just wait for the sale and X game will be 50% off, 75% off. It's the new normal, so we're no longer surprised by them getting amazing discounts.

Bad for new buyers as well if the discounts aren't as big as they have been in the past. Obviously new buyers don't know that though, and as the saying goes ignorance is bliss, so it'll look great to them regardless, I guess.

This being the defacto Steam thread for the foreseeable week, I've decided upon my 5 Steam GotY list
1- Adventures of Pip
2- Transformers Devastation
3- Contradiction
4- Kero Blaster
5- Aviary Attorney

They may have seen some issues in their deep discount model

Even though I remember a ton of games dipping sub 5 dollars before that would seem 12 or more now. I use to really be envy of the prices for sure

I never picked up so few games on a Steam sale, despite 160+ things on my wishlist. Looking at my Friend Activity feed, I'm not alone.

guess i will try this one, thanks

Hope you like it, but keep in mind you should put a few minutes into the options; the game scrolls when you move and you can set how fast it scrolls to show more of the screen, this is IMPORTANT to avoid hazards as Normal has NO recovery items in-stage (Easy has them but the game isn't THAT hard that you need to play on Easy :P)

one suggestion I can give is to set the Install system to Semi-Auto and start with the school/universit stage since its the easiest and the boss is easy to beat as well if you're careful enough.
