I know I shouldn't be but seeing the posts about his looks is pretty upsetting. You guys need to get some perspective in your lives.

Because of the first thing you said.Adam Driver turned in a good performance but - and I hate being this shallow - I can't believe they cast someone so ugly. How did that happen?

It had nothing to do with Finn having some Force. It was Ren sensing Finn's hesitation. Perhaps you could call it a disturbance in the light side of the ForceThe way Kylo stared at Finn in stormtrooper outfit after he captured Poe made me believe Finn had some force to him.

Ridley has big teeth.
Took me out of the film completely.
Got my Art of Star Wars book today. Fantastic. Been flipping through and love the evolution of the 'Jedi Killer' throughout. Love the early stages when the artists are just basically throwing shit at the wall based on what might be happening. Darth Talon was a thing.

The criticism against Adam Driver's looks are so fucking gross.
It doesn't help it being a stretch he's Han and Leia's son and he looks ABSOLUTELY NOTHING LIKE EITHER OF THEM.Adam Driver turned in a good performance but - and I hate being this shallow - I can't believe they cast someone so ugly. How did that happen?

And Fin's so attractive right?

Nicely said.Adam Driver was great. The insecurity, the turmoil, the false bravado. He captured all of that with just a couple sneers.
And punching his wound during a fight. Some real method shit no one's ever seen in a Star Wars movie.
So just finished The Phantom Menace, and it was kinda refreshing to see how much new stuff there is, compared to The Force Awakens![]()

Oh please.
Not surprising given EP7 is a dickless and convenient retread of the OT.

I think his looks have a legitimate place in discussing Star Wars, but not in terms of being good looking or ugly. For me, he doesn't look or sound menacing once the mask comes off. That works in this film since he's supposed to be a whiny wannabe, but if they attempt to expand his character beyond that - I can see there being an issue if his performance and look resembles this film's. Maybe the facial scarring he's likely to have will help?
I had the same issue with Sebastian Stan in The Winter Soldier. Dude looked like a menacing badass for most of the film till his mouth visor came off, then I was like eh....
Yeah thats a legitimate talking point for sure. I thought he fit perfectly and I think he will be able to pull of a more menacing figure with no issues whatsoever. I'm actually more impressed he was able to pull off this emotionally damaged character since his acting definitely skews toward more of a serious bend.
There is retread there too.
1. Master dying in a lightsaber fight with younger one watching.
2. A Skywalker taking down a big threat at the end by shooting it's weak spot.
3. Ending sequence was like the award ceremony.
4. Tatoonie
5. Working together with the native planet species to defeat a greater threat.
and more.
EDIT:
Also, for "new" stuff. You mean midichlorians and a senate arguing about blockades and taxation of trade routes. Come on man.

Yeah, but it didn't follow the same exact events with different characters and places.
They also never said the new stuff in pm was good (though some of it was! Especially designs that weren't just, like, non beat up or slughtlu altered x wing, but things that expanded the universe)

If they're going in the direction that I think they're going with him, since he's seemingly reached the point of no return after shanking his father - then it's going to be a tough day at the office for screenwriters to shift his character into a convincing menace. We've already seen him mentally/emotionally weak and we've seen him get bodied by a newcomer to lightsaber combat/the force, so he's going to have to do some straight up morally repugnant evil shit to convince audiences that he's a legitimate threat.
