I want a scene where Finn and Poe run to each other in slo-mo with Chariots of Fire playing.
Abrams did want another 6 months on the film that he didn't get so the meat of Phasma's story probably had to be sacrificed.
I suspect the same happened to The Raid guys.
It does feel like there is a brief missing scene showing the Senate and day-to-day function of the Republic, leading into an introduction of the Resistance as they relate to one another (we'd then stay with just the Resistance for the remainder of the film, as is). I wonder if such a scene was in the screenplay at any point and was cut for fear of prequel gag reflex. The Republic/Resistance split really was unnecessary. I think they wanted to get back to Rebels vs. Empire too much. They could have echoed the OT in a more interesting way by flipping their positions, and having the New Order attack the Republic from their position of strength. Would be much more straight forward, and more in line with what might be expected given how Jedi ended. Since we never see the Republic, the Resistance is the face of it and it seems like the Rebellion never got past being a scrappy group with a small fleet. I was like, huh? I thought they won in Jedi why are they stuck with a small fleet of X-Wings going up against a planet killer, again?
I like how the movie felt much more like the first trilogy than the prequels. Good stuff.
That final scene was terrible though. I figured Luke would've said something like "I've been waiting for you" or similar. Instead we get an extended staring contest of her holding his saber. He could've at least force pulled it to him and looked at it or something.
i'd like to see this as well. a spear lightsaber would fit rey so much.
on another note, will this be getting a 4k blu-ray release? cause i gotta have that.
Considering that I was responding to a directly quote synopsis of Sokka's character, my discussing his combat prowess as was mentioned in the quote is completely appropriate.
As for Finn being the tactician.. that's not what he was in this movie at all. He was a valuable source of how The First Order operates, but he had very very little to do with any of the tactical planning at any stage or point in the movie. He goes from "Gotta get away from The First Order" to "Gotta find a way to save Rey" in terms of both his motivation to his actual planning. So even on that level, he's not comparable to Sokka in the way you're describing Sokka.
I took that as a sign of Hammil's bad acting skills. I mean that seriously as I was sitting there trying to figure out what emotion he was trying to convey.I preferred the implicative nature of the ending rather than forced dialogue personally...
I viewed the final scene like a silent film or something. It worked for me. You could read so many thoughts on their faces.

I read a comment on Youtube that Han should've told Ben "I love you" and Ben's reply should have been "I know."
The more I think about it, the more I wish it was in there.
That would be a good idea if we were talking about Robot Chicken and that Emo Kylo Ren Twitter hadn't already made the same joke.
Oh, you were serious...
It fits to a point, but in a movie full of callbacks, it didn't need one there. That simple touch of his face says all it needs. Acting nostalgic in that moment would feel inappropriate.I read a comment on Youtube that Han should've told Ben "I love you" and Ben's reply should have been "I know."

Feel free to disagree. Don't be a dickhead about it. That's not necessary.

Genuinely, I think it could have worked great on the bridge scene because earlier in the film Leia tells Han she lost her son when she sent him away and Ren later tells Rey that Han would have disappointed her as a father figure. It lends credence to the belief Ben felt they didn't love him and that trauma of separation played a considerable factor in his turning, which I think is a little pedestrian.
However, if Han told Ren that he loved him and he acknowledged that with "I know," thereby dispelling that he any notion that he wasn't aware that his parents love him and establishingly clearly that he chose to walk the path of the Dark Side anyway for other reasons, that would have given real weight to his commitment to the Dark Side and made Han's death all the more grimer.
It would have resonated strongly with the audience as a call back, but have this stark and grotesque change to it because one can so easily infer Han and Leia would have held on to that exchange as a kind of inside joke of theirs while Ben grew up and that Ben would be remembering that and all the other good things in his life growing up in his struggle with luring Han to his death when he confessed he felt torn apart. Ren corrupting that saying, something that was light and an expression of love, would nicely reflect his own corruption to the Dark Side.
A definitive dispelling of any notion that Ren turned because "mommy and daddy didn't love me enough!" would have strengthened his character and his allegiance to the Dark Side, and it would have made me even more interested in his motivations and how he turned in the first place.
I'd also have been somewhat shocked by such a blatant corruption of something that was such a beloved and sweet expression that fans been quoting for decades.
Opinions and all that, I guess. I'm fine being in the minority on it.

Yes, Phasma bending over and turning down the shields made no sense. She'd be trained to just let herself be killed in that situation.
there should be more new force things. there is no good reason at all to limit the uses of the force to those we have already seen, in fact it always struck me as obnoxiously stubborn that we see nothing of this nature in the prequels.
Ok I'm not getting the love this movie is receiving.
Like it's basically episode 4: the Disney remake.
How did it review so well!?
Seriously someone who loves this movie please explain it to me.
The top of her spear is a Maul-styled emitter from what I recall. So there are saber parts she has on that thing. That's one of the reasons everyone believes its Plagueis' staff, that and Serkis being seen with a staff during mo-cap.i'd like to see this as well. a spear lightsaber would fit rey so much.
Well we did have that one scene where they had super speed in episode 1. Not to mention the powers were used way more liberally. The EU got way too ridiculous with the force powers imho. Had people phasing through walls and Jacen Solo commanding entire armies with just his mind. I mean what?there should be more new force things. there is no good reason at all to limit the uses of the force to those we have already seen, in fact it always struck me as obnoxiously stubborn that we see nothing of this nature in the prequels.
-The dialogue is the best it's ever been in a star wars film, (or the series in general).Ok I'm not getting the love this movie is receiving.

Really? Because I'm not aware of how they are actually trained. If they were trained to be so cavalier with their own lives that would actually not make much sense at all. The FO had already achieved victory. Why sacrifice her abilities and experience on the slim chance the fighters could do anything in the first place. The shield wasn't the only obstacle, in fact the Resistance was nearing defeat by the time they made the hole.
You really don't want your best and brightest sacrificing themselves in scenarios like that. I mean, maybe if they hadn't already got their first shot off I could see that.

I am not a Star Wars fan. I've seen the films and half of them are a fun watch, but nothing to go gaga over.Ok I'm not getting the love this movie is receiving.

Well damn, tumblr.
I love Rey's expression when she says "I've got to go back to Jakku?" like Finn is an idiot for not getting that.
Do we know which stormtrooper Daniel Craig was?
The one Rey mind tricked, I think.Do we know which stormtrooper Daniel Craig was?

the one that freed rey.
The one Rey mind tricked, I think.
The one Rey used the Jedi Mind trick on
The one that went all ninja with his gun that could block a lightsaber? Loved that the stormtroopers weren't necessarily cannon fodder this time around. Giving them personalities was a great touch. The two turning surround when kylo was throwing a fit was fantastic.
