GAF, how is Distance? I wanted this game for a long time but I'm not sure if it's worth 10$ comsidering it's still early access..

It's pretty great. It's also very much in EA still. Which means it's a little bare-bones in official content. The single-player campaign for example is just a few levels long and can finished within an hour or so. However there's also a great map editor with tons of custom maps available on the Workshop and there's even a neat automatic map generator in the game. There's also online multiplayer, leader-boards and more. You'll have to judge for yourself if that's worth $10. I've only put a few hours into the game so far, but I really enjoyed what I played and can't wait for them to add more to the game.

People got turned off by some recent updates. Its not bad.

EDIT: Does Grim Dawn have a pretty complete story as it goes now?

I bought it and so far it's awesome. It is challenging but I don't feel crushed like when I started playing Dark Souls for the first time. In my first 4 hours of playing I didn't have a single time, where the game was unfair.

Its been awhile, but anyone have recommendations for Quake 1 and Doom/Doom 2 frontends?

EDIT: ZDOOM seems the way to go for Doom. I've still got the quake CD around the house, but not sure the best way to go with that (dont really need anything more advanced than being about to run at 1080).

Why didn't anyone tell me about Pillars of Eternity? It's brilliant. I never thought I'd get to play a new RPG in this style ever again.
You can't say I didn't try.

I put it front and center in my RPG thread with 11/10 hype points.
I posted about it probably 10 times in this thread alone.
It's even in my avatar.

Sold!
Thanks a lot, hope to like it!
Looks very Tron-ish to me which is good.

For Quake I like nQuake as it's a tidy, all-in-one installer for ezQuake.

For Doom I've always been partial to Doomsday Engine but ZDoom-based clients like gzDoom, Zandronum (or ZDoom itself) are required to play Brutal Doom. They're all pretty good, and I think most of them will let you run all the various Doom engine games like Heretic, Hexen ...Chex Quest, all the important games.

Dipped my toe in the water and bought Dark Souls, Ys Oath in Felghana and downwell.

Started Dark Souls thinking "I don't remember it being like this" Then realised it was Demon Souls I was thinking of.

So just started up a game of Dark Souls Prepare to Die.

Never played a Souls game, but is this the one where you need a mod to fix the IQ?

Because I am playing at native 4K and the IQ is absolutely horrid.

GZdoom or Zandronum if you want OpenGL features plus ZDL if you want to setup load orders for WADs.

You're not playing at native 4k. You're playing at native 1024x720.

or

alternatively could suggest replacements, etc.? Like, would I get more time from Grandia II over Desktop Dungeons?

My vote goes to getting DariusBurst, but even though it's a game I want, cheapest a trader seems to offer is $31 atm :X

but from what I heard it's like game dev story

Guess it comes down expectation. I expect something like management side of things of The Movies, but it turns out what you mostly manage are menus and tables with boring UI.
The pixel graphic actions on the screen are mostly statics and doesn't even reflect much on what you're doing aside from making callbacks to tv shows/movies like Breaking Bad and Back To The Future.
I enjoyed Restaurant Empire II more than this.

Man I have a ton of games in my cart so far and I keep adding to it. I don't know if I want or need some of these.

So far..

  • METAL SLUG
  • Read Only Memories
  • Crusader Kings II: Charlemagne
  • Shower With Your Dad Simulator 2015: Do You Still Shower With Your Dad
  • Saints Row: Gat out of Hell
  • Resident Evil 6 Complete
  • Killing Floor 2
  • LISA: Complete Edition

  • Soul Gambler
  • Undertale

I wasn't that impressed with Windward myself. It has potential.but it got repetitive very quickly, and when I look at the dev logs, it doesn't seem to be happening as much as I had hoped with the game.

Someone remind me again which is the good shadowrun game Returns or Dragonfall?

Dragonfall is the best one, with Hong Kong slightly behind it. Returns is pretty average really, not really worth playing. But if you're determined to play it, play Returns first.

Found your mod, and installed it. I believe. But now the game crashes before even fully loading. Any common mistakes I could be making?

Getting Dark Souls to work well on your PC is the first challenge of Dark Souls.

I've seen quite a few people ask about Nuclear Throne. I have one spare copy so if someone wants to trade for it, I was thinking of something like A Beginner's Guide (currently $5.39).

Oh that's a really nice offer! Though I already bought it.XD

wow act 3 of pillars of eternity is kicking my ass

I actually played the game on easy and still I only scraped barely by at the end.XD

Haha. Touche.

I assume you've read the readme and done everything written there?

If so, the next troubleshooting step would be to enable logging.

100% Orange Juice is fun but plan to play it with friends as the story mode and its AI are lackluster. You get it to play Mario Party + Fortune Street with friends featuring anime characters made popular from a Japanese indie developer you've never heard of. I got it as a gift for giving a German pal a copy of Wolfenstein 2009 and I have nobody to play it with. It has online though.

turn of the AA in game before using the mod

Thanks, I had skimmed that part of the readme, had a hunch that would be the issue. Moved all the mod files out, went in and disabled AA, and replaced the files. Worked like a charm. Pardon my carelessness, its 7am, and I've been up and about since yesterday morning.

The fix comes with README.txt.
You should probably, you know, read it.

No need to be nasty, I had read over the readme. Just was not paying close enough attention.

So did I. I don't even like assembly programming.

If I liked Shadowrun Returns I will probably like Dragonfall, right?

Yes, its like Returns but with a consistent party instead of recruits. Then again I went with the "story character" in each of my Returns missions as well as the same recruits each time.

It makes it more like Mass Effect or something where after a mission you nowhave a bunch to talk about with all your party members back at base.

I'd suggest getting Read Only Memories from the current Humble Weekly bundle. Cheaper, and you'll get 5 other games with it.

No problem, now set it to 4k, unlock the framerate (and pray that it works for you, that part is dicey) and enjoy!

Thanks, I'd heard that but unfortunately I'm a sucker for Pirate themed games and it's cheap so i may go for it anyway.

I'm getting the 4-pack after trying the demo... DAMMIT! The Steam store has shat itself again and lost my cart, grrrrr... When i purchase my copy i'll send you a friend request so we can play when we're randomly online at the same time and in the mood for a game or two :)

Looks interesting, have you tried it yet? How is it?

I haven't had a chance yet. It's way too early for that.

Here's a bit from Cyan's GOTY post:

Cyan said:
1. TIS-100 ; (OT) It's a puzzle game that doesn't even try to hide that it's really about programming. In fact, it embraces it. You're an 80s computer user, trying to fix some corrupted assembly code in your inherited TIS-100, with just a manual to guide you. You've got a three-by-four grid of interconnected nodes, some simple commands (add, subtract, move to another node, a few other things), and then a set of inputs and expected outputs for each puzzle. The puzzles range from simple stuff like taking each input and doubling it to more complex stuff like finding the min and max of a given input sequence. (And it's surprisingly tricky to divide one number by another when you only have addition and subtraction!)

The harder puzzles generally take two stages to solve--first you plan out your general approach (sort of the pseudocode stage) and maybe mess around with a few ideas to see what works and what doesn't, then you dive in and try to code what you want. As Gotchaye says, it's incredibly satisfying when your solution finally works. And it's a lot of fun to compete against your friends for the lowest cycle solutions. Good times all around, even though I don't really consider myself a programmer.
