It's not about individuals liking it. It's about the zeitgeist of how this film is perceieved by culture at large. There was a moment after the reviews hit when it seemed like a modern day classic in the making, but it seems clear to me at least (feel free to disagree) that this was a temporary moment in time in a hype bubble.

I haven't seem the hype for the movie going down since the release.

This hype bubble must be strong as fuck since it hasn't popped yet.

It's not going down as a new A+ classic.. You already see the second week viewers coming into threads like this and saying "that was it..? It was okay...."

Good movie. Like Captain America Winter Soldier or Hunger Games 2 or whatever. Not exactly a new ESB or Raiders of the Lost Ark, etc.

So some people don't like it? You're equating what random internet forum users are saying as opposed to the mass reaction of this movie?

The 2nd week numbers are strong as hell. WOM is great for this movie. Your average movie goer could give two shits about this being "better" than Empire. They just want to see a fun movie and that's what they got.

One thing I just realized I miss from the OT is the black screen wipes between scenes.

Clock when time passes.
Horizontal swipe when changing location on the same planet.
Vertical top to bottom swipe when going to space.
Vertical bottom to top when going to a planet.

At least that's how I remember them. Could have been random.

TFA had multiple of these, in fact they stuck out as callbacks to the way the OT used them.

It's hard to get invested in a debate about whether the film is an A+ classic. It was enjoyable and it was star wars, by itself this equals profound contentment and relief.

Is it safe to say that Rogue One will have R2 and C3PO? They were pretty much involved in the operation to steal the plans for the Death Star, even Leia was involved somehow no?

Feels to me like they could make it that Princess Leia met with the empire as a distraction for the rebels to get the plans. Maybe it'd be a bit too much to get he droids involved even before ANH, but I think it could work. But without Leia, maybe not.

Question: My brother pointed out to me that Snoke said the line "There's been awakening. Have you felt it?" line before Rey discovered she was force sensitive.

Not sure if there's any correlation, but when Ren was in Jakku, he immediately was able to identify it was Finn that was the stormtrooper that went AWOL. My brother said Finn might be force sensitive we just don't know it.

My question is can you become force sensitive later on or do you have to be born with midichlorians?

Not really. They were a part in ANH, but that was after the fact. There's no point to have them in Rogue One.

They weren't close to her at that point either.

It seems the story implies the force awakened in some random people on Jakku (if not elsewhere too). In this case Finn and Rey. Forget midichlorians.

The rebels say they were on a diplomatic mission. The droids were with them.

Just got back from watching this and was absolutely floored. Two year media blackout payed off and i cant wait to see what happens to these characters next.

I had been dreading to watch it truthfully because i knew Han was set to die in accordance to history and damn it was as hard to watch as expected
Only floored? The hype bubble has been popped! Abandon thread.

I doubt it. R2D2 doesn't get the plans until the opening scene of ANH and Darth Vader mentions that the plans were beemed to the Rebel blockade runner that Leia is on.

Plus, using Leia adds an unnecessary hurdle since they'd have to recast the character of young Leia. It's more likely that she'll get name dropped at some point or the rebels will speak to her as a hologram at some point.

who would they have in leia's role?

Or just have her story in the background?

He's talking about Rey. She had just pulled off some amazing piloting — the best she's ever done.

It wasn't Finn. He didn't do anything. I've seen the movie three times, and the reason why Ben notices Finn is because of his hesitation during the raid on the village.

Right I forgot it was beamed to her ship. She was definitely involved though, the diplomatic mission was a front. But yeah probably going to just mention them.

C3PO makes it sound like R2 gave him more trouble before though, "No more adventures!".

edit: Oh right, the dumb prequels, ugh. To think Vader made C3PO, arrrrrrrgh.

I don't think it's outlandish to argue that the movie won't go down as a classic of cinema and that it won't be revered throughout generations. But it's also pretty soon to be making that argumentation and more importantly, most people won't be up for this conversation yet.

Saw it twice. Loved every minute of it.

IMO, tops every previous SW movie except ESB, and washes away the stink left over from the horrible prequel trilogy.

Looking forward to Episode 8.

Anyone else Maz Kanata or whatever her name is looks like an old wrinkly ant from Antz? I think Antz and Star Wars might be in the same universe now that Disney acquired it.

Watching AHN: Vader couldn't even get the location of the rebel base from Leia, even with some torture machine.

Been saying that she looks like Antz since I saw her. Didn't need to be CG. People say "oh but a real person wouldn't have been as expressive!", but you could say that about anything. A real person in a suit and some makeup would have been better than a non-believable CG character.

That's fair.

Speaking of screen wipes I really liked one cut where it was like a sliding door closing turned into a sliding door opening. I was like aha lol

Haha, I watched ANH last night and cringed at C3PO's "Thank the Maker" line because of the stupid prequels.

So are we going to get Star Wars tie-in marketing around the time frame of every movie every year? Like I'm just thinking they could pander to OT nostalgia for every anthology film and then promote the new trilogy for every main episode year.

Next movie is a side-episode. It will not be successful as SW7 was (but be prepared to see Darth Vader on the trailers ;) )

Wait a minute. How does Luke ever get Anakin's light saber in the OT anyway? Obi-Wan has it and gets killed by Vader, dropping it on the Death Star. WTF lol.

edit: Or is that Obi-Wan's own? It really looks like there was only that one. Luke doesn't seem to have it on his belt.
