well no lightsaber for him when he turns 16! also, always watch your back.I'm a bit concerned that he wasn't phased out by Ren killing his dad though.

I imagine this has been covered, but this is my first time popping in to the OT...
Was anyone else super bummed with how limited a role the gentleman from the Raid films had in the movie?
When I saw that bit of casting news come up I was so pumped for the possibilities! I didn't really follow the film though so I missed the part where J.J. Abrams eventually mentioned their part would be super minor
Small thing but it made me sad lol.
Don't go out on a catwalk with that kid.![]()
I'd like to attribute a lot of this movie's success to nailing BB-8.
That thing is the new adorable character people eat up.
I'd say it's expanding the audience, which was done in more than one way. BB8, as you said, and Rey, who has enjoyed a lot of success with Star Wars traditional audiences, but has brought in a lot of women.I'd like to attribute a lot of this movie's success to nailing BB-8.

Minions were boring. I'm glad that this tiny robot take the price. And i live in France and it's even more invading in our life because Minions are french cartoon.
They're everywhere like the rabbits from ubisoft 5-6 years ago...uurk
My 6 year old son got the full Kylo Ren costume with his plastic lightsaber.
Every time I turn a corner of the house I'm getting stabbed in the heart with that thing and my son yelling out "THANK YOU".
We've seen it 3 times now![]()

I'm thinking maybe the guy in the storm trooper outfit who went up against finn when finn had the saber was a raid actor too.
Star Wars. Inspiring patricide.
I'd be scared if I were you![]()
I wonder if they changed Finn's designation in the French version? The scene where Poe gives him his name is so good, but when I watched it (original English dub) I couldn't help but think it must be kinda awkward in the French dub. (Since FN is the name of the country's main far-right party.)
yeaaaah man you better git gud with your lightsaber skills. your son is coming for you.

This isn't directed at you specifically, but I really dislike the term "friendzoned." A woman is under no obligation to like any man she meets. We're don't survey every man we meet and designate which are suitable partners and which are friends. You know, this is exactly what the Plinkett reviews talked about. Kids wanted to be Luke, Han; no need to put stupid kids in the movie to make it relatable to them.
Kids wanna be Kylo Ren, Poe, Rey, and Finn now.
Though I'm not sure being friendzoned as hard is inspiring![]()

I was ok with most of this, because they're trying to anchor the story to Jedi instead of having something that feels entirely separate, but I did think some of the Han/Chewy stuff was a little much. Han and the Bowcaster, for example; all these years together and Han never used it until now, and now he feels the need to borrow it twice? The second time it felt especially shitty and a little too much like pandering fan service for my liking.

Wait.. Star Wars: The Clone Wars (tv show) isn't canon anymore?!
It was to establish how powerful it was when Ren takes one to the gut

My only complaint was that it should've had some massive kick to it. Han fires it like a regular blaster.

Not sure if this has been discussed, but how were the new order going to power their planet killer weapon now that they've used up the two(?) local stars? There won't be another star within lightyears
Something that really bothered me about this movie is considering the end of Jedi how the hell is the Resistance not the status quo, why is everything back to square one? The movie didn't explain jack shit. Its really jarring leaving from a situation where the heroes have won and the galaxy is at peace in episode 6 to being right back where we started in episode 7 I felt like I miss a movie.

It's not an illusion that exists, period. Nobody of any note is (much less large groups of people) calling it the bolded at all.
What are you even doing right now.
My only complaint with TFA was that it felt like it relied too heavily on the original trilogy characters, as if it wouldn't be strong enough to stand on its own. Which it definitely was.
A few people in this and other GAF threads have called it better than ANH and ESB. People are not necessarily calling it flawless but too many people are willing to pretend the flaws aren't there or are perhaps even perks (it's not a rehash... it rhymes!).
If you insist.
Even a middle of the road and surprisingly competent Star Wars would trigger as "great word of mouth", considering that exceedingly mediocre Star Wars films were already box-office darlings and certainly culturally significant.
The implication that TFA is some great untouchable classic beyond reproach that everyone loves is a short term illusion. You'll see.
A few people. Oh heavens to betsy.
It's my favorite because the NT trio is more relateable to me right now.
I think i will do it ^^ i want to hear that Rey theme with the Jakku planet again *___*
Firstly, why were Mad Dog and Rama from The Raid films even in this? I remember there was even a PR released mentioning the Raid guys had been cast in the film. WHY, OH WHY, were they used in such a shitty fashion?! JJ fucked this one up.
It's not about individuals liking it. It's about the zeitgeist of how this film is perceieved by culture at large. There was a moment after the reviews hit when it seemed like a modern day classic in the making, but it seems clear to me at least (feel free to disagree) that this was a temporary moment in time in a hype bubble. As far as personal enjoyment. TFA is equal to ANH to me with Empire being the best. It's an enjoyable fun SW movie.
The fact that people keep harping on this "eventually you'll see how bad the movie is" is asinine. For me personally I don't go see bad movies 3 times. It's enjoyable, Fun it has great reviews and strong word of mouth. The movie isn't perfect by any means.
But there seems to be this segment of people who didn't enjoy the movie trying to tell people who actually liked the movie that they're wrong and eventually they'll see why.
People need to accept that some people will like something you don't and vice versa.

It's not going down as a new A+ classic.. You already see the second week viewers coming into threads like this and saying "that was it..? It was okay...."
Good movie. Like Captain America Civil War or Hunger Games 2 or whatever. Not exactly a new ESB or Raiders of the Lost Ark, etc.
