Just want to notice how that group of people who are probably among the best in the world at HM still think Hotline 2 sucks so I basically don't want to hear the "you just have to git gud" excuse ever again

Don't you love getting killed by an enemy that can see you through a window located on the other end of the level? <333

FUN FACT ACTUALLY

On Dennaton's blog at one point, short after HM1 released, Cactus answered some FAQs about the game and he outlined how the game's AI worked, because back then they were making sane design decisions. He said that enemies' turn speed is directly affected by how far away you were when they noticed you, so coming at them from a long hallway will basically make them marksmen and bumrushing them means they'll turn slower than a cement truck in molasses. The idea was to encourage engaging enemies at close range and acting like a serial killer, basically.

Hotline Miami 2 wanted to make all the levels "bigger" and "more epic" but it just did so in the flattest laziest way possible by giving them an absolute ton of floor space, but it didn't change anything about the enemy AI. (Aside from the liberal use of random-pattern enemies.) So what winds up happening is that you frequently get spotted by guys at distances larger than some entire levels in HM1, and they wind up ENGAGING LOCK-ON BRRRRP instead.

Hotline Miami 2 is a game that you spend the majority of getting literally 180 noscoped.

This is one of those games where I admit I'm too shallow to bother with it nowadays. It's just too ugly for me. I don't mind low res pixel art, but this is just MS Paint quality to me. I hear it's a great game though =/

Nothing wrong with admitting that. It's a visual medium after all.

Edit: Is this the keyboard part from Tom Sawyer slightly altered and played on a guitar? It sounds suspiciously similar.

Surprisingly, there was actually a lot of work that went into the art. 3D models and such built and animated in Blender, and then traced over in a different program. The original plan included shading and texturing all of the frames, but after ~4 years of work on the game Remar was burned out and gave up on polishing it.

When it came out in 2008 there wasn't a lot of competition in the indie scene, especially not on a gameplay level. So it developed a relatively large audience at the time and people like me are pretty nostalgic for it, but I totally get why someone looking at it with 2016 eyes wouldn't be.

Coincidence, but the musicians have commented on how they agree it's similar.

Alright I was really curious about the game so I looked some stuff up, fortunately the site has an extensive FAQ. The guy how made it works at Ludosity and made the game as a hobby without any intention to make money from it.

9. You've said you're unhappy with Iji's graphics and cut scenes. Why not remake them?

Iji has a lot of graphics, and I've never found the motivation for remaking all of it. People have always been free to give it a try though. If I ever did another version, I'd at least update the worst of the cut scene images.

I'm also unhappy with the writing, but that's not as big of a job to change. The script was overhauled twice in the updates, and if I make another update I'll likely do it again.
14. Why won't you sell your games?

1. I have a full-time job already; I don't need another.
2. I want everyone to enjoy them, including those who can't pay online.
3. I want the games to be available in the future without people having to pirate them.
4. Getting things published is a troublesome process.
5. I'm not obligated to patch or support the games (I do it anyway, but still).
6. I can do anything with my games and release the source code.
7. They are unbound by companies and contracts.
8. I have no deadlines.

Some people say "you would have made a lot of money if you sold them". But:
1. Barely anyone would've known the games existed had they not been free.
2. I make more on my job than I ever would had I sold my games.
3. I don't need more money than I already earn.
17. Follow-up: What about selling Iji? If I port that game to another platform, can I sell it then?

No-one, not even myself, is ever allowed to make money on Iji.
35. Follow-up: Can I remake or port the games to other platforms?

Of course, as long as no-one makes any money on it and the porting/remake project is open source like the original. I and Ludosity Interactive reserve the right to sell ports, remakes and sequels (see question 16). But again, in practice only Ludosity as a company does this; I have no personal interest in selling my stuff.

So yeah, I think people should try it, it's free!

First i've heard of iji
Will check it out

I am at work and not all sites open up for me
How many hours til kero blaster?

New PB, nice!

Am I right in thinking that there'll be an AGDQ Humble Bundle in about 8 hours?

Boo I can have the stream running at work but GafChat doesn't work :(

I only got 4 hours of sleep last night thanks to the BattleBlock Theater!

The germophobe in me just thought about those headsets. Hope they have someone wiping them down every few hours. If those peeps are anything like me my ears get kinda sweaty after having closed back headphones on for a while.

For a second I felt like a maniac checking all of my usb ports and not understanding why I kept hearing the usb device disconnected sound.

Edit:

Aside from the final boss which seemed pretty different from the rest of the game Iji didn't look all that exciting. The final boss track is amazing though.

The standards for an indie game in 2008 were very different. That and a speedrun isn't always going to necessarily show off all the best qualities of a game.

What a great puzzle platformer. How come i never heard about this game.

Also lol at the pepsi vs coke donations.
