It's relatively uncommon because world-record times often call for relatively risky strategies that aren't "marathon safe" (e.g., you could soft-lock the game or lose lots of time if you fail)

Yea the counter is still running for the run at the end of the event. They just used whatever it was at the time for this run as well.

Yeah, also you should be allowed to just cut your time off before killing the last boss as well, I mean it's speed running after all. Save those frames and don't even fight the boss imo.

If you have never seen reverse boss order for super metroid, watch it this saturday. It's a great twist to a regular speedrun with a lot of tricks to get to areas early.

They're often called meme categories or meme runs because they have some very arbitrary and silly rules and restrictions and there really isn't any competition. I wouldn't call it idiotic, but you can pretty much make your own rules for any number of runs and claim the WR in them
