Awesome Games Done Quick 2016: January 3rd - 10th.

Having 2 portal speed runners doing different things simultaneously and in coordination on side by side screens is a lot to keep up with

Whatchoo mean. There's been plenty of explanation.

Also no commentary is preferred to bad commentary.

I was barely hearing anything from them as well. No commentary is certainly better than bad commentary, but this broadcast was just begging for some personality.

Just got to the venue tonight. Had fun walking around on camera in sight of the stream. I should make a joke sign to hold up or something.

I caught Metroid Fusion on stream before I left for the venue but missed Super Metroid because I was busy pulling the guts out of a DDR machine to bring to the arcade (who had suffered a hardware failure and needed a loaner) at the time it was going. Will have to catch it on VOD later.

pretty sure he has it at the lowest settings/ lower resolution on purpose?

Yup, it mostly shows how goddamn good croteam is at customizability.
The game can go from lookiing like a game that looks like it's from 2005 to a game that looks almost AAA good at time of release.

Yeah just heard that, i saw 2014 and this honestly reminds me of games I played 15 or so years ago, I googled some high res shots and its actually quite nice, still in the state he is playing at its really really unpleasant to look at. Reminds me a bit of playing l4d back in the day on custom lower than low settings so it could run on my laptop.

15fps l4d with next to no textures

I might be most impressed by having all those Tetris puzzles super memorized. Feels like something that would tougher to remember without them running together.

Apparently Noire was warned about the more off-color jokes during the middle of the HL2 run, which is why he toned it down later on. He's not banned from future events, though, which is great because overall I felt like it was a pretty entertaining run.

This night certainly isn't the best night AGDQ has had...

Once Metroid ended all the momentum kind of halted completely.

I liked the HL2 run, but yeah, I think the problem with the "block" style that GDQ does is that it sucks when the block you care about is going on when you're asleep/at work/etc and when you can watch it's a block you don't care about. Fewer blocks and more alternating between "bigger" games like Metroid and "smaller" games like Half-Life would probably be a better idea going forward. Or at least time the "bigger" games/blocks a little better- both coasts were at work/school from Metroid Fusion to Super Metroid 2p1c. Wasn't a problem for me because I have a desk job with a three-monitor setup that doesn't care if one of them is a video game stream, but not everyone is that lucky.

All i know is im glad im watching Talos after i played it. This is ruining it for me seeing all the hacks. It was so amazing playing it in complete mystery.

As someone who has seen very little of this game it all kind of looks like nonsense to me. I don't think this stream will have spoiled any solutions for me should I play it down the line.

I haven't played it either, everything is happening so fast I can't really process it

Same here, all I know is that apparently number 6 is important and tetris blocks lol.

Did they forget to put enemies in this game? Wish the Wolfenstein run wasn't so late. On the precipice of either going to sleep or saying screw it and heading into work really tired tomorrow.

I kind of miss the comfy smaller rooms from the earlier ones. Seeing the big empty conference room is kind of depressing lol

Did they overestimate the number of attendees or something? They rarely even filled up the smaller rooms.

I think summer is always where it's at so I think it's understandable that it gets kind of empty really late at night.

It is filled for bigger games.

It's absolutely not filled at the moment because it's late night with less popular speedrunning games.
Also there's a lot of other things you can do there, it's not only the speedruns in that room for a week and also everyone isn't staying there for the whoel week.

Most GDQs burst with attendees. If you look at the crowd for "big" games like Super Metroid, it's filled to the brim with people.
This is just graveyard shift (it's like what, 1:30 AM over there?), so most people are asleep. Many people also are practicing or just hanging out at a pub or whatnot.

AGDQ always was bigger than SGDQ.

I watched a bit of the Transformers: Devastation run and damn that shit was pretty cool. When I realized he was doing it one handed I went from impressed to astounded. Props to that guy
