Searched but haven't found a thread about this game. I never post "official threads" (don't count this as one), but as a huge fighting game fan, I gotta spread some love about this game, Cerebrawl - especially because I haven't seen anything about it on Neogaf.

Siliconera wrote an article: "Cerebrawl Is A “Love Letter To Marvel vs. Capcom 2” for more info.

Official site. http://www.cerebrawl.in/

Cerebrawl is a 2D fighter being worked on by a small team of six. It's a 2v2, 4-player game in the style of MvC2 and 3S. Got some awesome people on the team including Lead artist, Eliot Min, who is contributing to the Capcom Fighting Tribute book which is published by Udon and a Third Strike and MVC head, a Crytek engineer, the godlike 2 Mello, creator of the Jay-Z/Chrono Trigger mashup album, Wu-Tang/Final Fantasy, and more.

You can hear some of the music here (it's fucking awesome):

Game is looking sweet - but there isn't a ton of info out yet. I'm currently watching them stream their development process on at twitch.tv/cerebrawlin as we speak. Give these dudes some love, this game needs more visibility.

The game itself might be "a love letter to MvC2" (like Skullgirls was), but that soundtrack? It's a gushing fanboy rant to Third Strike.

And there's nothing wrong with that.

Really not looking forward to another attempt at making MVC2. Skullgirls wasn't even that bad, honestly, but I have huge doubts on people trying to capture that feel without screwing over how the game plays.

Edit: But that music though? That music is hot.

I'll be curious to see what the game looks like in action. The visual style doesn't look super coherent right now, though.

daaammmnnnn this game at least sounds super dope. Characters look neat too. Now show me some gameplay and I'll probably be sold

I have faith, but this does strike me similar to the Chainsaw Incident, which wasn't a happy incident after everything was said and done.

On a sidenote, donations only get prototypes with no tier for full game ahead of time? Huh. Cool either way, but would be all in early if possible.

The characters designs are definitely out there, but it looks pretty interesting. The blue hair wrestling little girl seems like she could be cool.

It looks like any of these fighting games that touches kickstarter/indiegogo either doesn't get funded or gets canceled/stuck in development though. That MLP game? turned into a new game and is still in development. The Chainsaw Incident? Disappeared. Beast's Fury? Went silent and surprise, development stopped. BTW, this game had 2 (or 3?) funding campaigns.

Skullgirls and Yatagarasu are the only games that are up and running and they just asked to fund for more content. Oh, and RIP Yatagaraus.
Wanted to give the game a try and found out it was completely dead.

Yeah, it's still very early in the development. Like Yatagarasu, the limiting factor here isn't going to be the expertise or experience of the dev members - It will be the funding and the attachment of the community. Yata is a very well-made game that didn't get its due. I'll be watching to see how this develops.

Interest piqued. Witch looks rad. However, I'm going to have to see/read a lot more before I get hyped. I wanna make sure I get the sense these guys know what they are doing before I get hyped.

I mean that is absolutely going to be a limiting factor. Projects like the Chainsaw Incident and Beast's Fury crashed and burned because the people making them had no idea how to make a good fighting game and/or had issues with development in general. Yatagarasu suffered because though the game-play was actually rock solid, they still haven't added in GGPO and everything from the UI, aesthetics (non-HD sprites), training options, etc. were unappealing or unhelpful to casual players. Gameplay aside, which they nailed, the game feels incomplete. I know it was more of a side project for those developers but it didn't help with sales or community building.

List of western fighting games that don't have horror elements:
- Rising Thunder

Will buy.

Game looks great but the animation is kind of choppy. That is to be expected for a prototype though.
I actually felt the opposite; really, really smooth animation for a fighting game, but that sort of thing would probably also make it harder to 'read' moves and the like when there's so much more going on visually than most other 2D fighters.

Would've liked to see it succeed regardless. Had a really neat mix of grotesque and western-animation pulled off to a level I don't see much in gaming.

I mean things move smoothly, but they don't animate smoothly. In other words it looked like they avoided redrawing frames by hand as much as possible in that video.

I agree with this though. The game looked very unique and had a lot of stuff going on in the screen at once.

i dont think anybody will ever succeed at make a mvc2 style game because i dont think half of what made that game interesting was intentional or planned for.

That music is super legit. Cauldron Rave sounds like some Jet Set Radio music from a Halloween level.
Those are some awful character designs.
Nah, that green dude is awesome (dumb scarf wrap aside). Looks like someone decided that amphibious swamp knights should be a thing. The others aren't my cup of tea.

Half of what makes MvC2 awesome isn't going to entertain most people without the novelty of playing Marvel or Capcom characters. Ain't no one got time for 120 hit combos from Not-Magneto.

Fighting game crowdfunds need contributors to have hands on experience with the product in order for contributions to take off. Skullgirls and Them's Fighting Herds had that going for them. Once you clear that hurdle and find an audience crowdfunding is a much smaller gamble than it normally is for fighting games. I don't know about Yatagarasu, but I assume the Japanese had some hands on time with the game before the crowdfund.

The stages look nice but nothing about the interview gives me much in the way of hope that these guys will be able to pull off a competent fighting game. If they had something playable to show off that'd be one thing but going in blind on this one with developers/game designers who are just complete unknowns just doesn't seem like a good idea.

T That MLP game? turned into a new game and is still in development.

That MLP game that was always intended to be a fan project and was never crowdfunded to begin with, was C&D'd shortly after the EVO fundraiser, and only recently came back with original character designs from Lauren Faust (aka the head behind Friendship is Magic) and running on the Skullgirls engine.

Their Indiegogo ended October 21st. Using it as an example of failed fighting game crowdfunding doesn't work in this case.

Lol at you saying the UI was unappealing to "casuals" as if it was somewhat good to amyone in any way. Call it like it is, it was a disgrace, the whole game was a Incomplete mess that had no business being put up for sale.

At least Skull girls is a proper videogame (and as far as I know, successful)

Two-character tag-teams fight each other, up to four players can play at once and the combat is like Marvel Vs Capcom 2 and Street Fighter III 3rd Strike. That sentence wasn't that cryptic.

Well neither MvC2 or Third Strike were 2v2. Or 4 player. Maybe that's the confusion :p

I guess- it really reads like "It's a 2v2, 4-player game in the style of two games which are neither 2v2 nor 4-player games." Even leaving that alone... "in the style of MvC2 and 3S", i.e., "in the style of two of the most dissimilar 2D fighting games you can imagine"...o_O

Character design is dope af, I don't know what's wrong with you people. Muscle Witch is amazing, and Mohawks will never not be cool.

Thee top 2 songs of the OT are tracks that sound really Jet Set Radio.

Training Room is totally a mixture of like Samurai Champloo-esque smooth beats and some nice samples.

Love it.
