Koji Igarashi Kickstarts Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night (2.5D, backdash, 2018)

To me, the issue isn't that she's large breasted. The problem is that it looks awkward, They look way longer than they should be, like they're actually watermelons (ones common in the US) or missiles.

To be fair, "missile boobs" definitely exist, or as my more uncouth friends say, "torpedo tits".
 
Big boobs are fine, it's more she's pulling a Lulu, where the position of her breast should be showing a not of nipple, but it isn't because lol anime. Keeping the size, but adjusting the hemline to be a bit higher would suffice to eliminate that.
I would've preferred not humongous breasts but this size isn't inherently wrong by itself but it's the ridiculous hemline and placement & design of that tattoo.

And no, not once in the concept art did Miriam ever had such a low hemline that made me think "damn, a nipple should be showing right about there".

Now that that's out of the way I must say I LOVE the chosen shader. I need to see it working with a background and in motion but as far as that pic goes? Love it.
 
I don't mind the graphics at all, especially if they're nailing the feel.

These graphics are absolutely fine to me if it feels as quick to move as 2D Igavanias usually feel. Which in of itself is not extraordinary, but few 3D graphics, 2D gameplay platformers do feel like that.

True but I don't think they'd actually look like that with clothes, most of the time. I mean, Miriam's upper breast to upper chest area is crazy. lol. Check out where her shoulders start and the beginning of her breasts begin, it's so high.

Now that I look at it... yeah. I didn't properly look at where the chest starts before, but that's kind of crazy now that you can see the proportion that's exposed. I think I got thrown off by the flower.

I now understand The Case of the Missing Nipple as noted earlier. lol
 
Lol, once again a popular Kickstarter game posts actual in-dev screenshots that aren't the same as the angelic concept art and people start getting peeved.

Looks OK so far, much like Dracula X Chronicles. We need to accept that the days of getting a gorgeous high-res pixel art Metroidvania in the style of the original Symphone of the Night are pretty much over and done.
 
As soon as I looked at the email I knew the complaints people were gonna have. Personally though, I really dig the new shader, and don't really mind the ridiculous breasts as long as long as it fits the character design.
 
You can tell who's here not for the game but for a good outrage by them calling it a tattoo.

I get the point you're making, but - and I've said this before to other people - the problem for me is that it actually looks like a tattoo, and not what it was stated to be. You'd think crystallization would have a bit more .. texture, or something. It's too flat.

Very sad future indeed, I was under the impression that the concept art screens were achievable with today's tech.

I like that she looks to have a rim light that will make her stand out against the background.

looks good, clothes should be about halfway over that bottom flower petal to get rid of the lol no nipples effect also boobs should look a tiny bit more squashed in, that's a tight fitting outfit going by the art and right now it looks like it's just magically staying on xD


^ case and point almost same boob size but super tight fitting and a tiny bit higher
 
If they can make all the visuals with this grainy/toon visual shader, I think it'll be great.

Hopefully their next update won't be next month... right?
 
I'll hold all judgment until its nearing completion. The graphics can still be tweaked.

That boob tattoo though has to go. It just looks really out of place and bad.

Because those "tattoos lol" are central to gameplay/story as well. In theory she will be covered in them eventually

People have mentioned it (here? at least elsewhere) and its a good point - a lot of what the model design, curse mark placement, etc. does is accentuate the curse mark which, as you said, is a major design/narrative element. You'll be spending most of the game looking at Miriam from afar and usually in profile view. I'd imagine it might be very hard to see the cursemark otherwise. That's ......... kind of smart from a design perspective.

Now that I think about it, push up bras and bustiers were pretty common during the time period this game is set in aren't they? Granted I don't know/I doubt that necessarily went into the thought process here (and I really don't think this is the sort of game that has/should aim for 100% realistic designs) but that is something I hadn't considered.

I think another person earlier said if that was the case it really should look like the top is pushing against the breast. As it is, it looks like it's just painted or glued on.
 
I don't care much about what shader they end up using. None seem too spectacular, but hopefully we get some cool monster designs. What worries me is Iga's track record with level design. I took a chance by backing this one, as even the much-lauded OoE featured some straight-ahead stages.

True, there were a couple copypaste, straight corridor levels, but I have to assume that was out of a need to pad the game with reused assets due to budget constraints and hopefully not an issue here.
 
This is gonna be every GAF thread ever for any game where a female character shows some any skin.

I think it's less about skin and more about large breasts. Somehow there's this mentality now in the gaming community, post-gamergate, that depicting females with large breasts is sexist or misogynistic...as if real women IRL don't have large breasts. Thanks ObamaAnita.
 
It's the missing areola that's getting me xD I don't have a problem with the huge tittens but let's not pretend nipples don't exist. The dress line is nearly dead center of the boob, there would be nipple showing. Give a sister a little support! If I wore something like that the first little hop I did my breasts would pop right out of that thing.
Or does she use magical tape? :p


But, it doesn't look off-putting in the gameplay model and if they were smaller it would probably be hard to see the tattoo. That's kinda a rock and hard place. Maybe having a separate model for any cutscenes?

All this talk about boobs, i just hope the game looks much more polished next time, with games like Trine 2 for example. im sure they could do something that looks nicer. the characters/art direction of this one was always kinda mediocre compared to other Castlevania games, but thats not really the point of IGAvanias.

The huge difference with the Trine games being that Frozenbyte is really good at doing shaders & lighting and inticreates...isn't

While Miriam has been pretty full chested outside of the initial concept art, that stained glass-tattoo thing has definitely been migrating all over the place.

When I was looking at the concept arts recently too, I forgot that she had abunch of blue tatoo stuff on her legs too. That shit IS migrating all over the place! (iirc, the main badguy is way further along in tattoo disease.)

The problem isn't really having large breasts lol, the problem is why the developers put so many women with large breasts in games. They are not putting them in the game because "real life women with large breast exist", but to cater to gross people. It's also not a "post-gamergate" thing. Shame not even this game could escape pandering (that being said, Mirian is very low on the pandering scale fortunately); I am still excited for it.
