Awesome Games Done Quick 2016: January 3rd - 10th.

Because Super Metroid is played as the grand finale at every GDQ, so they feel the need to do something each time to make it different from previous GDQs, be it a race or a weird condition.

Like I said earlier, 2p1c would probably have been better for this slot, but I get why they're doing this here.

Sorry, I should I have been clearer. I know Super Metroid is a tradition. I was talking about this category. If this category wasn't marathon-friendly, they probably should have chosen a different category. I get making it different, but this clearly isn't going well, and if they knew that this category wasn't well suited for a marathon they probably should have gone another option.

This has been a great GDQ, but there's been some real garbage on this final day.

MK8 and Bloodborne were Tomba 2 levels of suck.

I found MK8 OK but there was nothing really mind-blowing. Just elite play, which I mean is nothing to dismiss, but I kept waiting for an interesting sequence break or engine exploit or something to be use and it was "just" good racing.

That energy tank was a close thing.

I don't know if I ever realized the laser zap thing (grappling hook?) could grab ammo drops. I guess it makes since, I just didn't think about it.

I think most complaints about MK8 were because of the blue shirt couch guy. Even if it was a straightforward, high-speed run, I could have enjoyed it but his constant talking, interrupting, and UH UH UH ruined it for me. I had to watch it muted.

JESUS CHRIST THAT RIDLEY KILL

Yeah, the last day has been hit and miss, but there's been plenty of good shit this week. To be fair to the organizers, they can't entirely know what's going to go well and what's going to go poorly in advance.

Yeah but after playing on 200cc, what she was doing seemed like magic.

OH MY FUCKING GOD. Now I can barely watch on my stupid fucking computer because it keeps stopping to buffer every five fucking seconds even though I have a great connection.

This shit has been working just fine literally all day and NOW it crashes during the thing I've been anticipating this whole time?

Ah, I honestly don't remember the couch folks. I'd have to listen again haha. I was half-watching it (well, half-listening - I had audio down and had it on my 2nd display).

I agree - there was just the "wait, what" component missing for me. There were some neat shortcuts but a lot of these runs (at least the ones that aren't glitchless) have some cool trick/exploit/sequence break.

Mk8 was ruined by the wanker in the blue shirt.

Kill us. Look at us. We don't even care. We suck.

This run is going decently enough, actually. This is an insanely difficult run and the Norfair sections have super optimized health management - a tiny mistake can cost you the run. Luckily Norfair is early in the run, so the most difficult sections are done with at this point.

The organizers are well aware of how risky this run is, but it's still really impressive to watch, which is why it was picked.

Honestly, while I understand what they're trying to do showcasing all of these alternate categories for games like this that have been run to death so that those who aren't huge fans of them don't get bored of them, I can't help but feel that a good Any% race would be way more interesting than this, despite how played out it is.

This run has gotten better over time. Norfair was incredibly challenging, but now it's basically just a regular Super run with some slight changes.

Sadly this category is less interesting after Dreigon, since Samus' strength compared to the bosses do a 180, the point of this run is to fight Ridley and Dreigon while underpowered, but now Samus is overpowered for Phantoon and Kraid.

Now that we're farther into the run, I agree. I spoke too soon. The run is really impressive to watch, that rough start just gave a bad first impression.

Still wish the couch comm was a bit more lively though. For me, part of what makes these events fun is the commentary.

EDIT: That Phantoon kill tho

EDIT 2: THAT KRAID KILL THO

this run was ResidentSleeper

nonexistent couch commentary even though 4 people with a mic were there didn't help.

FFIV should have the usual good JRPG finale commentary at least

edit. ANIMALS = KILLED

clearly canon
