Awesome Games Done Quick 2016: January 3rd - 10th.

Oh, ok. I did see that mentioned a few times but I thought there were other complaints.

IIRC, the patch reduced the load times from 5-15 seconds in every area but they are still lengthy.

just watching the super metroid run: idk, but when the need to use savegames to continue it kinda ruins the runs for me.

play it more safe, or restart.

They played it more safe by saving. This takes time you know.

he used a safegame he made befor the run. (he load safegame 3, but his run was started on 1)
he didn't safe. at least not yet(still watching). or I misted it.

so much hype for that run and the constante battle between safing and killing the animals and after 10 minutes the run isn't legit anymore..

They're called "safety saves" for a reason. They're not plan A, they're a backup in case of the worst case scenario.

Restarting wasn't really an option, since that would've taken too much time. Abandoning the run also wasn't really an option, because they had to complete it to fulfill the save/kill the animals bid war.

It would've been ideal if he hadn't died, but since he did, continuing on from a safety save was the best option. Obviously it means the run is no longer valid, but he still got to show off what it looks like to play the game backwards like that.

One more E-tank would have made the start of RBO much safer, maybe he should have done so for a marathon run.

I know all that.

or he could have safed at

First boss he killed during the Super Metroid reverse boss order run was Crocomire.
shouldn't it have been Ridly in Norfair?

Well, the unpatched run is both full of long load times and eliminates most of the skill involved by power leveling via a dupe glitch, which combined make it a very boring run to watch. The any% and all bosses runs for the current patch are way more interesting because they are optimizing on risk vs reward and are like watching a kaizo Mario run because the player is doing what seems like the impossible.

RBO in Super Metroid only counts the four main bosses that you have to defeat to enter Tourian. In sequence it would be Kraid, Phantoon, Draygon, and then Ridley. RBO is Ridley, Draygon, Phantoon, and then Kraid.

Watching this shit makes me realize how much I sucked at games as a kid lol. The Aladdin and Lion King games, I played them so much and never got good at them.

So I'm rewatching the FF4 run... I haven't played this game in ages. Can you not rename Rydia until you bump into a Namingway?

This year's AGDQ did less than last year's and also what SGDQ 2015 did. I'm surprised.
Hmm, you're right. I wonder which it depends on more, runners or games. Here is all the data in case people are interested:

Great runs either way. Loved Mew and truck segment.

If they had a humble bundle they could've made an extra 200k probably. There was a nice recovery in the final day at least.

No Bonus Stream ? =(

Been dead for the past couple GDQs. They have to break down the equipment and get out of there since they have to pay for the venue now. It wouldn't be all nice and cozy like 2013 anyway when a lot of the runners were still in college (and jumpstarting your twitch career with the bonus stream wasn't really a thing), most of the cool people have to go back to work/life :(

As someone who generally only watches speed runs through agdq and sgdq, what is the best way to browse the archived footage? Twitch's past broadcast section?

My favourite runs this year were the NES Platformer block, Castlevania block and of course Mike Tyson's Punch-Out blindfolded race, that stuff was awesome. And incredible.

The bloodborne run would have been neat if I hadn't already seen it done on giant bomb's big live live show live last year, but it is what it is. I hope they don't make 2 player 1 controller a continuing thing though. It's novel for a quick minute, but its already worn its welcome with me at least. If they continue with it, then no more racing games at least :/
