69 is not old. And the shocker comes because no one really knew he was sick, just like Lemmy.
Uh, 69 is quite old. Healthier people have died younger. Don't see how you can be flabbergasted by it...

Anyways, that isn't what the thread is about. I just don't see how it's such a surprise. Life ends. All our favorite stars will die one day.

I'm happy that I started listening to him last 2 years, but, I'm also sad that I haven't been listening to Bowie for all this time.

A great loss. Rip.

My favorite live footage

My musical hero and one of the most important artists of all time. His 70s run of albums is probably the most distinctive, diverse, and influential in all of music outside the Beatles. As an artist he is inspiring on so many different levels.

I've basically been starring at the screen with all of my favorite songs playing back in my head at the same time. I don't expect any death of someone who I didn't know will have as much of an effect on me as this. So happy that I flew to Chicago to see the exhibit and that we were blessed with such an incredibly fitting final album.

RIP.

What are you even trying to do? 69 isn't "old" he died of cancer not old age.

I've just listened to Lazarus...holy shit, it's like it was meant to be played after his death. Very powerful song.

RIP. You're a legend that will never be forgotten.

This. I mean, "Look up here I'm in heaven. I've got scars that can't be seen"

The hospital bed, "Oh, I'll be free, Just like that bluebird."

I can't even listen to this right now. So depressing.

Make sure you watch the video along with it for full effect. Almost has to be intentional if he knew for 18 months.

69 is not quite old and besides, he died from cancer.

What the fuck am I reading. 69 is not old. The only people that age who die typically have cancer or serious health problems, and no one knew Bowie had cancer.

Celebrity death hoaxes, no prior knowledge of him getting sick, him just releasing an album 2 days ago.
For the first part, there aren't that many death hoaxes, are there?

For the others, that makes total sense. Didn't know his cancer was a secret.

Edit: You'll look me in the eye and say your grandma at 70 years of age is not old? I'm calling shenanigans, people.

Several people have explained why this was surprising. I think you're just trying to be edgy or something, or you are just obtuse.

69 is not quite old, BTW.

That means he knew this when he released that 3CD compilation at the end of 2014.

It was for posterity.

And he knew this when he released two songs from the new album all the way back then... In case the rest didn't get finished?

Didn't know he was sick, although given judging from what I'm reading here he didn't make it public. Pretty sad, dude seemed to be going strong still. I still need to check out his last album.

Mother fucker. I hate cancer. Loved this man's work, he will be missed greatly.
Having lost my father to cancer about 2 weeks ago, this news fucking sucks. Cancer sucks.
Really saddened by this :( RIP David Bowie.
I'm so sorry for your and your families loss.

oh shit I just realized my mom is a huge david bowie fan especially labyrinth.

she fell asleep before the news broke

oh man she is gonna be devastated

It was one of the first Criterion titles on Blu-ray and went out of print years ago. Last I checked it was pretty expensive.
I just had a look on Amazon and it seems quite common now. I remember seeing this film as a kid (around 14yrs old) and even though it is genuinely odd and not always successful it had a profound impact on me.

I think I'm going to spend all week drowning in Bowie's work!

The first home video I made was me and my sisters recreating Labyrinth scenes with me as the goblin king.

This fucking sucks man.

His music, like all the other countless legends out there, will be forever regarded and listended to. You were a bloody amazing person Bowie and you'll forever be in my heart and the hearts of many others.

im packing for vacation and just now read this

im crying

the only tattoo I have in my body since 10 years ago is of david bowie

I can't believe this. I never saw him live. im fucking crying

My condolences go out to his family, it's sad to see such a man go. I'll remember him in his passing like the ABBA song "Thank You for the Music". Thank you for all the joy you brought to a lot of us with your wonderful music.

Now he can go jam in the stars with Freddie.
