Street Fighter V Roster Discussion |Thread 2| Deal with it & place your hope for DLC

So what are peoples thoughts from the beta/time with the game? I haven't played it at all but I'll be in day 1. Just curious what others think and how it compares to their favourites in the series.

Personally, I'm a big fan of the Alpha series (2 and 3), CvS 2, and had plenty of fun with SF4. SF3 I never got to deeply into.

I already like it more than SFIV

Compared to SF4, I'm gonna have a lot of fun with this.

I liked what Gootecks said about the difference between SF4 and SF5. For a lot of people who pick up SF4 or even just a new character in the game, their first question is "ok where's the tech?" I've seen a lot of complaints about SF5 and most of them come from people who probably fit into that bracket of dudes who started playing FGs seriously with 4, and have the wrong idea about what to expect from a new Street Fighter.

I'm not a pro at any fighting game period, but SF5 feels like it achieves that rhythmic sweet spot that SF2 and 3 had much more so than 4. Its my most anticipated game of 2016 announced thus far. Can't wait for the next generation of pro players, new developments and discoveries, new strategies, etc.

It's not as fast as 3S or Dark Stalkers but faster than Super Turbo in my estimations.

People need to get ready to hold the patented Capcom fuck up bomb.

It seems to happen near launch of a lot of their games.
To be fair, most of the stuff about the base game either has been leaked or has been inferred by what we heard from interviews. And since we pretty much inferred that Story Mode will use Bengus art & could potentially be updated with the DLC characters (though how frequently is a mystery), the only real fuck-up that could happen is no support for existing PS3 sticks.

I love Alpha 3 and Third Strike, which are both different beasts on their own, just as SFV will be.

The thing that I love about this game is the fact that, just like Killer Instinct, I want to try out every single character with the exception of Chun-Li/Zangief.

They did such a good job in that regard. Truly though, I look forward to Dictator vs. Urien.

It's a mix of SF2, SF3 and SFA thrown in a blender.
Surprised to see people comparing it to SF2, between execution, characters simplicity, no chip wins, wake up options, throw game, damage, stun, zooning, etc,... SFV goes against a lot of the things that made SF2 SF2. The only thing I can think of is that SF2 is the game with the most returning characters, and even then, those are the characters that got changed the most!

High Stun is very much a SF2 thing, and that's been maintained.

The stun is nowhere near SF2 level though, it's actually closer to SF3 and 4 lower stun characters than SF2 level, and even then, SF2 had random stun. If that's what make it comparable to SF2, then even comparing it with SFIV would make more sense!

Beautiful. I know a lot of people were down on SF4, but I liked it well enough. Does this feel closer to any of the other games compared to 4?
A mix of Alpha,3S and IV. Input leniency of four, throw and normals of 3, and elements like reversals of Alpha. But, there are lots of new things to mix it up.

People are getting stunned a lot more often in this game than in those two though. It's noticeable- the stun is an omnipresent threat for the first time in a long time.

But it's still balanced, mainly because of the existence of V-Reversals and the fact that the amount of stun is now shown rather than people having to guess.

The meta-game is still very young though. As people learn how to defend, and take advantage of the better v-reversals, stun will be less common.

They announced the cover of the special edition box we are getting here in Korea (art by Shinkiro). Not sure if this is Asia exclusive..

It's cover for the SE box, not the actual game case cover.

Could do without the orange flare.
Also super weird a tiny FANG in between Ryu and Laura. Like "shit! where do I put it, there is no space"

Hmmm, while I don't particularly care for the generic Ryu cover, or Bengus' tutorial art, Shinkiro's overly clean style doesn't really fit this game either imo. I guess good SF art (i.e. art that shows the raw energy of SF and street brawling across the globe) for me personally died out with 3rd Strike and the old Akiman/Ikeno days...(bar some poster art from IV)...

Also, is this not worth discussing still, or is that my que as the stages guy?:

Here's what appears to be a super-early build of the game. Interesting enough, it has Hot Ryu, a completely different look for M. Bison, a different HUD design, & what could be a variant of the background of F.A.N.G.'s artwork.

Old or new build, I hope this picture of FANG's stage confirms that all the art will find its way into an actual stage. I can't wait for Rashid's in particular (though it could still pan out that the Shadaloo base is his stage afterall I guess, as no character art seems to portray that one).

Any thoughts on the HUD or Bison's look? By the way, where are these images taken from?

If it's about how often people get stunned and not how fast you could stun someone, then I'm pretty sure we see more stun in top level USFIV than we do in top level ST. With all those ST stun combos, you barely see any stun in real matches. CC Finals surely made it look like stun is a big factor in USFIV thanks to Yun, E-Ryu, Makoto, Seth and Able, you'd see a stun in almost every single match one of those characters is involved in.
