Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen Steam pre-order is LIVE

Wait, so when is the earliest the game unlocks?

I doubt we'll actually have to wait until Friday afternoon thanks to VPN, just as long as it unlocks earlier somewhere else in the world.

After finishing Shadow of Mordor, Witcher 3 and Fallout 4 in the past 8 months in eager to get into a new game while I wait for all the good shit to release later this year

But im seeing a lot of talk about the game only having controller prompts on screen

As a KB+M person this worries me. I dont want to spend $30 on a game that I cant play without a controller

KB+M has prompts on the screen? You'll be fine if you don't use a controller.

It releases simultaneously worldwide at 9am pacific on 1/15. VPN won't get you the game early.

So then why are people piling onto that other guy? This is legitimately shitty, especially in light of the leak.

Can save files be transferred from the leaked version to the proper game? Might just take the dive now, as being a paying customer hasn't worked in my favor here.

Nah, it does have KB+M prompts. It also switches on the fly based on what input method you use without you having to change anything.
wbacon had a post about that somewhere earlier in this thread.

Are you guys seriously so miffed because it's not coming at midnight? It's releasing on a fucking Friday, not even a Tuesday.

God, you people are insane.

Why is it shitty if everyone can start at the same time? Default unlock time for games in my timezone is 6 or 7 PM, who cares. Seriously.
And at this point releasing it early would also be shitty, because then they're just going to piss off those people who are still planning to preorder the game but haven't yet.

haha yeah i actually love the fact it's coming out on a friday (friday night over here too)

all the complaints are basically "why isn't it coming out NOW or whenever I like it"

The Friday releases are fucking magic already. XCOM 2 is doing the same thing.

If you seriously need to refund/cancel your pre-order because the game missed your own personal set target by a couple hours, you got fucking problems.

Learn some patience people.

Why would this matter at all lol. The price and pre-order rewards could still be available to everyone until the moment it would have been "officially" released.

it's shitty but it's not like I won't be hanging with friends friday night anyways. And regardless when I wake up I'll have some breakfast, watch my daily shows, and then get back at 11 am central and play it.

I'm really hoping those sweetFX settings aren't too demanding, I really do want more color in the game it's so washed out.

I think changing the vibrance shouldn't be performance heavy, and if the premade settings are too demanding you can just deactivate all the other stuff and leave only that active in the worst case.

Btw, did you see the link in the other thread? Feel rock emotion is now available for use with the game ;)

no. Need link pl0x, need to feel rock emotioooooooooon more than I need the wind to push me.

And yeah I'll manage, all I really want is more color.

Because it's totally arbitrary.

If I'm a publisher and my game leaks, I'm going to do everything in my power to get the legit version of the game into customers' hands ASAP. Does that mean releasing a few days earlier? Probably not, for the reason you mentioned concerning preorders. But doing a simultaneous release that will end up making people wait longer than anticipated? That seems counterintuitive to my objective of preventing people from pirating my game.

As with most Western devs, I doubt XCOM 2 will be a simultaneous worldwide release that cannot by bypassed with VPN. Patience is waiting for the release date instead of pirating, tacking on additional hours at that point is irritating.

Dragon's Dogma is being released this way for the same reason that it's region-locked: most Japanese pubs are still really behind on standard practices for digital distribution.

So you plan to pirate the game then and be part of the problem or what are you saying? Since being a paying customer didnt work out for you?

oh no I cant unlock the game earlier via vpn what will I do with my life, seriously?

Dude, it's literally just being released in the afternoon instead of at midnight. A lot of games release in the afternoon. Just relax.

So, does gmg give you the key right away so you can preload or you have to wait for the release day?

I know this was probably answered a million times, sorry.

No, I've already gotten a legit copy on GMG, so of course I'll be switching to that on Friday.

But the most convenient option for those who want to play early is to use the leak, so why not? Capcom gets my money, but I have control over how and when I access the product. Fair is fair.

Is it true that the player / pawn gender influences enemy behavior? Just read this by the way and it would actually be pretty cool and provide even more replay value if done well.

This. Except for the last part where you say when you have access to your product. I dont think you are entitled to choose when a company releases said product, but it would only be fair/normal/intelligent to release the game for your paying customer the same time it gets leaked on internet.

Having your customers adapt to your timetable while non-customer get to be playing now its bad business, bad marketing and bad in pretty much in every imaginable way.

For those who want to know, on a 970 it runs well over a 100 fps all the time maxed @ 2k. I wouldnt be able to tell if it locks @144hz because to be honest I've only tested 5 min and its so fluid it doesnt make sense to look for more.

Who are you reviewing for?

No one. I live in a country where people pretty much only sell games obtained through... different means. I have it bought in my Steam library though, event tough I had to use a VPN for that :) Gotta get them patches etc!

What sort of framerate do you get if you run unlocked/without Vsync? That's my exact same setup (paired with a slightly OC'd 4790k), so I wonder what to expect. 90+?

I dont' use VSYNC. Gsync Monitor, 144 hz. Dunno about framerate at the moment. I'm running it at a 60 fps lock. I would think 90-100 at least. Games seems really easy on the hardware.

Nice. I have a similar setup, but you likely have a newer CPU (2500k).
This is relevant to my interests (144Hz monitor).

I'm running a 3770K @ 4.4 GhZ.

Yes it does.

Ogres goes berserk if your party members are female, and the female bandit encampment are hostile if your members are male

It is true, but it doesn't change that much. Enemies like trolls will target females more often over males, notably.

Edit: Beaten!

Maybe they should just switch to Friday night instead of the morning so the complainers can have their night launch! Wbacon has done an awesome job communicating everything about the PC version (more publishers should follow his example) and people are still complaining about petty things. I guess that puts into perspective why so many publishers and devs just say fuck it and don't bother communicating as much as they could.

It never ceases to amuse me reading people defending companies. Really getting what we deserve.

That's right, some enemies will purposely target females in particular. I can really only think of one enemy off hand, but I didn't play the expansion.

Question for those with more researched opinions. I played the first DD as a Melee character (Assassin) and with a mage/sorcerer pawn.

I'm considering going with a strider/ranger pawn this time around but am worried about not being able to control elementals. If I know I'm off to face some goblins or wolves I want some fire element. Changing out my 3rd and 4th pawns to suit encounters seems like a pain. Anyone who has had a ranger companion as a melee character care to share what its like?

Conversely, I found a mage companion didn't have many 'brofist-y' moments like a melee companion has (grabbing enemies, launching the player), would a strider/ranger pawn have more of that sort of feel where they felt more involved directly in your combat?

Thanks!

Yes because every company just hates their customers and does everything to spite them.

For real dude, if them choosing to release this at some set date vs. what you expected pisses you off that much, don't buy the game.

There are plenty of companies that deserve hate for stupid shit, but complaining over a release time is fucking baby shit.

Also got a 144hz Gsync monitor that's why I was asking :) Not sure why you would lock it to 60 in this case but according to another poster it runs at 100fps+ on a 970@1440p so I'm looking forward to a super smooth experience ^^

Cool, sounds like fun. Pretty subtle influence then if that's all.

On the matter of communication, wbacon has been extremely open and helpful for all Capcom PC releases I've been following. It's certainly not up to him to decide when the game unlocks. I still agree it's silly that games on steam don't unlock at midnight for each users respective time zone by default.

does the game use the weird header FLAC that RE5/REV1/2 and whatnot use? not xsew which is like a wav with some strange header but xgnew or whatever?

It uses 6 channel oggs at 48000 khz. I already had a mod made ready for release date to change the title music but it looks like someone else made it too =p

Locking it keeps my card quiet :) Don't like when it goes into overdrive!
60fps is all the smoothness I need with GSYNC, althought I'm aware that it would make sense to unlock the fps. Technically speaking.

What tools are people using to do the music conversion?

I'm just using Audacity. Import the song, set to 48000 khz, split to mono, mirror the left and right tracks for back left, back right, and combine them for center / 5.1, then export as an ogg.

I played this when it was on PS+ for a few days and had a blast, but then my subscription expired and by the time I renewed I owned a PS4. Was completely shocked to see this thread, I'm so confused with this game (high praise but critical failure on high budget and unreal expectations? And then an MMO thing not available in the west? And now a PC pet years later? What's going on?)

Needles to say, I bought it and am excited. Also got my buddy to buy it blind and he's not going to look at anything before it's out. Very exciting. What are the chances we see someone mod a way for someone to take over one of your pawns? I don't want an MMO, I just want that.

Locked fps on a 144hz G-Sync? Explain yourself! Edit: I see...but fps

I haven't overclocked my 4690k or 970 but as long as I get an average above 80fps I'll be happy.
