US PSN has a sale on (Vita compatible) PSOne classics this week & more

This is a really interesting sale. Is it just me or does anyone else find it really hard to pull the trigger on Vita games on sale just for the fact that every time I buy one it shows up as the PS Plus game 2 months later.

The what now?

Saw Tearaway on the store (Vita version) for 9 bucks.....every Vita owner on Gaf should consider checking it out at that price :).

It has its issues (too easy, not enough platforming until the end) but I loved my time with the game in 2013; was my GOTY that year.

Wrote a very, very long impressions post on a wordpress for the game, and its way to big to paste here XD! Here is the link: https://rk564.wordpress.com/2015/12/30/reflection-tearaway-ps-vita/

"Lets talk about Tearaway. This is a 2013 title released on the PlayStation Vita in November 2013. This game was developed by Media Molecule, developers behind the LittleBigPlanet series. Considering that background, they make creative games that offer lots of level designing and creative aspects. But they are more or less creative tool sets with the game part being secondary (though still strong).

With Tearaway, I get the impression they wanted to blend both those elements but in a stronger fashion; you still create in the world but the gameplay itself is focused on core elements, mechanics and features. Creativity caries the game, but not the driving force.

Tearaway in many aspects, feels like a great Nintendo game to me. The world, the character designs, the music, and the creative elements; it screams Nintendo. And that must be a factor to why I love the game so much, as I grew up playing Mario and Kirby.

Going into the gameplay, it is a mixture of LBP creative elements but also more in line with a game like Banjo Kazooie or Mario 64. Its core gameplay mirrors those 3D platformers; you run around, jump around and collect everything in sight. The difference is that unlike those great platformers, platforming isn’t the major focus.

Like how LBP has the skeleton of a 2D platformer but it was more of a creative tool set, Tearaway has the skin of a 3D platformer but its core mirrors adventure games. You complete simple tasks, take pictures, draw objects and more to solve the NPC’s problems and that is what pushes the game forward. The game does have platforming and by the final world things kick into high gear with more challenging level designs but that isn’t the focus with Tearaway. Its about interacting with the paper world around you and to be honest, I’m glad the game focuses on its strongest aspect.

The way you interact with the world is through using the PS Vita as a tool; you draw using the touch screen, bound on drums using the rear touch pad, take pictures with the camera and the blow/speak into the speaker to control wind.

These elements sound gimmicky, but they are not. They feel natural and intuitive. The game accomplishing this when many other Vita games failed at this aspect is not only impressive, but allows the game to define the Vita.

Vita is mainly used for JRPG’s and other games from Japan, with the odd indie game here and there, but Tearaway shows what the system itself could do; its important to the system’s identity I feel.

The games visuals and music is nothing like any other game. Games like South Park: The Stick of Truth and the Paper Mario series explore paper worlds but nothing on the level of Tearaway. Every part of the world is made of paper; the water has paper ripples when you jump on it, paper sticking out sinks into the ground when you walk on it and even parts of the world move around when you press a button or move the analog stick. It creates this living place and the fact it looks so polished & clean on the Vita screen makes it pop."

Hmmm for 20$, with my 20% discount code, i could get Infamous Second Son and Metro Collection , i am very tempt!

Just picked up Final Fantasy Tactics PS1 version and Xenogears, despite having the disks for both games literally 6 feet from me right now on a shelf. I even previously bought Final Fantasy Tactics War of the Lions, but I couldn't play that due to the animation slowdowns.

Looking forward to getting back into both games on my Vita next time I travel or something.

Jumping Flash is one of three PSOne games I don't have already. Is it worth the $3? Never played it.

(The other two are Parasite Eve, which I have on disc, and Xenogears, and I'll probably have to get that too, now won't I.)

Amazing prices on PS1 classics. Too bad I already own most of them, haha.

Never played Chrono Trigger on PS1, but I remember hearing it had bad slowdown.

Not worth playing on Vita?

It's playable. The slowdown/loading issue is pretty bad, but I still played through it when this version originally hit the PS1.

Edit: Does anybody know for sure if Dragon Age Inquisition's "Deluxe Edition" will recognize my saved game from the original release? I really want to play the DLC, which is not on sale separately, making this the cheapest way to get it currently.

Thanks for the PSA, OP. I finally picked up Xenogears. I feel that now my PS1 classics collection is finally complete (aside from maybe some Japan weirdness like Cho Aniki).

I played about 1.5 hours into Xenogears. I went in completely blind, purchased solely based on the hype on GAF and elsewhere. The opening was amazing, far better than I was imagining. I had no idea the game was sci-fi, I thought it was fantasy, or steam punk or something. It had space ships! Giant aliens! Psuedo-scientific gobbledygook! Explosions! A naked woman! What's not to like? Awesome!

Then the game kicks in properly. Oh shit -- chibi characters. Walking speed slow as molasses. Loading times that take forever and a day. Endless annoying random encounters. Cheese whip dialogue. And to top it all off, a main character with amnesia.

GAF, I have a lot of patience for old games, but not this much patience. I don't think I'll be going back to this game, not for a long, long time. I'll play Vagrant Story before I go back to Xenogears -- a much better experience overall, despite its age. I just can't imagine spending 50-60s hours mired in this jank. The story doesn't seem worth it, and I hear the game falls apart on disc 2. So...I'm sorry, GAF. It was worth 4 bucks for me to learn this for myself, I guess, but I have too much other stuff -- Suikoden, Chrono Cross, BoFIV...I'll need help choosing what other game to play instead. Oh, well.

Awww. Glad you still got something out of it, anyway. I'd say the story is worth it, but I also understand where you are coming from.

IMO, Suikoden and BoF IV aged better, but Chrono Cross is significantly worse.

haven't played it since the release but it's unique enough to give it a try, you'll understand why people want a VR version of it. :)

Have been wanting to get both Demon's Souls and GTAIV in digital format for awhile now so at 12 dollars for the two of them I pulled the trigger.

I believe there are 2 printings. One set expired in Dec and one set in Feb. I have a feb code and this sale is making me consider using it.

Yeah, it's a good sale. GTA: Trilogy, Project CARS and Saints Row IV + Gat out of Hell are my highlights for PS4.

I bought GTA Trilogy for now. Earning all of the trophies in these games will take me a lot of time for sure.

NA is not my main region, so i can't buy games for Vita, but there are a few great offers too.

I hate these sales. They drain my wallet, and then make me get up and out to get another PSN card. I also love these sales. PSN for me, has had some great deals the past few months. This time I nabbed Mutant Blobs Attack, and I'm trying to buy Olli Olli and Velocity Ultra but the store keeps bugging out on me. Oh well, I'll try again later. Probably going to get Tearaway also if the funds are there :)

Do it :D. It's a great system, with so many gems in the library, and it's a very versatile machine too. They're also pretty cheap by now.

I'm really thinking about buying one right now. Problem is they are still around $150 which is on the brink of what I'm willing to spend. I really want to get on those PS1 classics though. And the KH and MGS collections. And play Demons Souls again. And Ni No Kuni.

Yeah I better go do it.

Picked up Parasite Eve, Jumping Flash, Mass Effect Trilogy, Red Dead Redemption, and the RDR zombie expansion. Not bad for ~$31, that's a hell of a lot of game. And the only one I've ever played any of was Jumping Flash back when it was in PSX demo kiosks. God, imagine that game in VR.

I hope I like Mass Effect. $12 for 3 games that people constantly rave about was too good to pass up.

It's one of the very first 3D platformers to ever be released. The controls are archaic by today's standards, but once you get used to them you'll disover a very bonkers, very Japanese, very fun and strangely beautiful oddity. Plus the soundtrack is killer.

Play it before the VR remake is announced. ;D

I don't think it was really on sale, but this motivated me to upgrade Driveclub from the PS Plus version. I was still planning to start to play Dirt 3 as my driving game too... oh well, onwards and upwards.

Well I've managed to get a good deal on the Vita TV and a few of its games. Maybe I'll bite the bullet and buy a memory card some day.
