Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen Steam pre-order is LIVE

Hoping for lots of actually good-looking pawns from you all!

Also I wasn't gonna do it because of the half stamina thing, but thanks to free pawns from friends, even the very high-level ones, I think I'm gonna start on hard right away.

Ya that HDR is insane. Low is absolutely the way to go. In fact I am surprised its an option. I wish they had replaced that with more robust AA solutions.

The thread is going fast, so 3 questions:

*Has anyone checked if known bugs were fixed? Like the Mage's Inflection augment doing the opposite and making you more susceptible of damage when attacked while preparing a spell?

*Also, are we going to have a separate thread to share Character/Pawn creations?

Don't know about point 1, but it'd be a good idea to make your second point happen. As with other games with CC it's the preferred method as to not clog up the OT. Don't know if someone really calls making the thread, I think it just happens when someone first makes it.

Well, I buckled. Pre-loading now. XD Will look into joining the Steam group later for pawn sharing fun.

Does this game have carry weight? After playing xenoblade X I've come to the realization that I have way more fun without it.

Can't wait for this, loved Dark Arisen on the Xbox 360 but never completed it. However, I'm still playing through Xenoblade, and I already ditched Fallout 4 for that... the gamer guilt is real, ugh. Damn all these 80 hour + games!

Looks good but load times become horrendous. Might have to put the game on my ssd
I don't think drive speed affects this; as I understand the loading time issue, it's because shaders are decompiled on runtime so ENB can work (about 7500 for DD according to Boris). So I assume it's rather a CPU/GPU task?

Boris himself stated that it's based on Skyrim's renderer and it's unoptimized for DD atm. Give him a week or two and it'll probably be much faster.

It's actually an important gameplay mechanic to a degree. It's the one time I don't hate encumbrance systems since it actively changes how you're supposed to play the game in the sense that it changes your run speed (but never stops you from running entirely)/stamina recovery and makes you think twice about picking up every little thing and forces you to head back to town to deposit some stuff.

A person with heavier armor and more stuff on them isn't the ideal character to go clambering all over monsters, for instance, and is better served staying on the ground to keep it's attention. It also changes how easy you are to knock over, I think?

I'm looking at steamdb right now and I noticed that they added a third dlc app (currently unknown) beside the artwork and soundtrack and updated it a week ago. What could that be?

damn I really need to know if the boxed version does have at least some part of the install on it and not just the steam application. anyone going for that version? I'm currently and for the near future limited to a 10gb/month connection.

Someone else posted it ships on 2 dvd9 discs, so there should be a hefty chunk of gamedata on there.

That is also my strong advise as well. HDR 'High' is an 'interesting' novelty setting you'd maybe check out a few times but that's it.

The intended light range is the 'Low' setting. It's the original setting used on the console versions.

High settings also creates this translucent, haze effect around bright source which makes it difficult to see through especially when traversing during night time.

I'm considering relabeling the text from "LOW / HIGH" to something like "NATURAL / INTENSE" since everyone instinctively set it to High thinking it's better without actually ever seeing the arguably better 'Low' setting.

A bit late, but yeah you should definitely rename it. I personally associate High in settings with objectively better quality unless there is some description what exactly it does and I imagine many others do that too.
Since it really seems like an entirely different look from what you've posted, labelling them as Natural / Intense or Normal / Alternate is probably going to save you a lot of trouble down the line.

The only major disappointment I have so far is that enemies still have a tendency to spawn right in front of you. It's not just when they're being summoned either (wolves and hobgoblins calling for backup always appear out of nowhere), you'll sometimes run into a camp and see the enemies pop in a second later.

Other than that, everything seems solid.

i guess every good RPG needs a random encounter

DDDA retail version ships on two DVD9 discs. A good 90+% of the build will be on there. Technically it's the full build, but some files have changed since the gold master has been created.

In any case, devs are still putting final spit and polish on it. So yes, while the game is more less complete, expect a Day One patch.

Anyone know if they improved the generated offline pawns on PC? I remember on console it was just straight up random without any intelligence in creating something coherent.

Funny thing is when I played it again last year fresh for a little bit there were so many bad online pawns in appearance and skills, many that weren't maintained or just either troll pawns or people not knowing about any of the game mechanics. I had better luck finding and using offline pawns for a long while.

If I remember it right, you receive less experience if your pawns have levels higher than yours, so this is something to be careful when choosing a friend's pawn.

Normal / Alternate - is best naming i think.

Question GAF. I have an SSD as my main drive with windows installed. I have a 1TB normal HD attached but it is not being picked up as space to install games. My SSD is nearing full, do I have to assign the normal HD to be slave or something in bios? I need to install dogma! This is a new construction btw.
