The Division - 15 minutes of new gameplay

Think they said something similar before Unity launched. Or afterwards. Or both. Probably both.

Though it's a different studio so who knows.
They said the opposite with Unity. They purposefully aimed for parity.

As far as I remember, they said they aimed for parity, then later back tracked and said they were utilizing the platforms to the fullest. Which looks like it wasn't true as both Unity and Syndicate look like they aim for parity, with no clear attempts at changing any graphical levels or settings whatsoever.

You don't remember this? Caused quite a buzz

"We decided to lock them at the same specs to avoid all the debates and stuff," Pontbriand told Videogamer.

Considering that the game runs at 60fps on a 650Ti (low settings) from the PC leak the other day, I expect the game will look great while running at 30fps on consoles.

Right how could I forget that thread? I thought they also said it was CPU bound or something later because there were "unexpected" debates.

A dev let it slip that they chose parity, but Ubi later tried to backtrack and said they don't constrain their games on any platform (since their "avoid debates" reasoning for parity obviously kicked up tons of debate): http://www.digitaltrends.com/gaming...forced-parity-consoles-assassins-creed-unity/

However, their wording notably dodged the big question people had about why the demonstrably stronger PS4 hardware was not being utilized. Their "not constrained" claim doesn't mean the ceiling was not set low for Xbox One's sake to begin with. I hope that isn't the case with The Division.

The release state was odd since ACU ran better during cutscenes on ps4 and better during gameplay on xb1.

Love the ability to look a certain way despite how your gear actually looks. Cool that they included that from the jump.
Yeah, it was great to see this implemented in the Alpha. Not enough games make it a point to allow you to customize your look independent of stats, so I have to give major props to any studio that has such a feature in place from the start. What is especially neat though is that The Division's gear works in such a way that you see both the gear that has stats and the gear that doesn't. Things that effect the core of your appearance such as jackets, hats, and pants don't affect your stats, and things that do affect stats still appear but are more like outfit add-ons like tactical vests, knee pads, elbow pads, gas masks, and weapons. They nailed the outfit system.

what code and outfits?

The Police & Hunter gear looks cool.

There's also some kind of Mission thing on the official website.

Here's a link to the US version of the official website: http://tomclancy-thedivision.ubi.com/game/en-US/home/

If you click "Agent Intel" there's some missions that you can do. You have to log in to your Uplay account, so I assume there's some kind of tangible reward. So far I only have access to the first mission which is just a questionaire on the type of player you are. It also rewarded a PDF with a character info dump on it.

The backpacks (go bags) in those sets give different buffs...

no idea about the Hunting one but the others are...

Police: Increased Ammunition Capacity
Paramedic: Increased Healing
Firefighter: Increased Fire Resistance

(that's from a German translation so I had to Google it but I think it's correct)

The difference between the ps4 and XO is minimal.

It has made a difference in nearly every current gen only game, with the biggest notable exceptions being the two Ubisoft made Assassin's Creed titles. EA's titles, Arkham Knight, Just Cause 3, The Witcher 3... It's even prevalent in in the vast majority of cross-gen developed titles. There should be a difference if you're developing it right. The hardware isn't identical and it shows.

Are you referring to the hardware or this game?

The consoles are 30-40% different. But let's not get back into that.

So if the developer truly is maximising both consoles, then the PS4 version would look considerably better than the Xbox One version, but as other has stated, I highlight doubt this would be the case. This is another AC:Unity moment considering the marketing deal.

Here we go

Extended post as I saw the future of this thread.

That doesn't preclude the differences being minimal.

EDIT: I'm done, let's not divert down this road.

That doesn't really preclude the differences being minimal.

It means the difference is notable and results in tangible differences in PS4's favor on the vast majority of third party releases on the two platforms. It would be their own fault if it doesn't utilize the difference between the hardware specs the way their competitors have.

There's no stealth in this game right? Can't even crouch, right?

You can crouch behind cover, not sure if you can crouch manually. Enemies seem to have a cone of vision, so you can sort of sneak up on them if you stay out of line of sight. It was covered in one of the videos, Angry Joe's I think. He snuck around a bus stop and got pretty close before the AI noticed him.

Minimal?

Nah.

720p/900p vs 1080p alone is a huge difference. Not to mention performance gains.

And that is just mutliplats without taking into account exclusives.

Halo 5 for instance was one of my most hyped games in years, but on a technical level, it was disappointing in almost every regard aside from Frame rate. Same with Forza 5,Sunset Overdrive, Titanfall.

Where as games like Driveclub, The Order, Killzone, infamous, etc still impress me technically ages after release. With the upcoming Uncharted 4 looking almost too good to be true.

Nothing is more disappointing than when deva don't take advantage of the considerable extra horsepower of the PS4. Hoping Massive at the very least gives us full 1080p on PS4.

Full disclosure, I am a day 1 owner of both PS4 and XBO and own a gaming PC. Will be playing The Division on PS4 and PC largely because of the hardware gap.

I'm still holding onto hope that they weren't actually stupid enough to lock all of the best gear in a loot driven co-op RPG behind PVP. If they actually do force you to go to the Dark Zone for the best gear, then this awesome game is going to die very quickly, and it will be difficult to recover players that have been lost due to frustration.

Why? From what I have seen, most people seem to think the Dark Zone is the best part of the game.

And it's part of the game design. No one said every "Coop Loot based RPG" has to have the same structure or be molded from the same template.

If the dark zone is what a big part of the game is based around, then that's the type of game it is meant to be.

I heard one of the early players--forgot which--stated that the dev told him that is not that the best gear is locked behind the Dark Zone, but you have better chance to find them there.
