Wonder Woman - First look

The rumor is that the first half of the movie takes place during WW1 and the second half takes place after BvS. It makes sense, since this movie builds up to JL which is the next movie right after this one.

...You can't be serious.
He isn't!
I said this in Reddit and I'll say it here. Granted its only a month's worth of footage, but this is what I was worried about with the movie. She looks way to feminine when she fights. My favorite version of Diana is in Batman/Superman: Apocalypse. Wonder Woman is supposed to look like Gal Gadot, but have the attitude of Ronda Rousey.
This is nothing
my point was the production quality doesn't look hot for a super hero movie
Because there hasn't even been post and they've barely started shooting, let alone even gotten close to finishing

What a stupid ass complaint.

Shit Hawkgirl too with Waller on comms? At that point you should just throw in Huntress and pissed off Supergirl and have the whole DC women "anyone who wants it can get it" squad together.

Trailer set to Crime Mob's "Knuck if you Buck."
IS THERE A GOD? OR ANYTHING? DIDIO GET YO ASS OVER HERE! WE GOT MONEY!

What's funny is that Gadot will probably fuck up a bunch of these armchair nerds that bodyshame her since she actually served in the army.

We can cherrypick pics all day, the only difference is that you can't find a picture of Gadot looking anything, but skinny

I really don't understand these complaints. If her performance is crap in the film, criticism is understandable. But is her look really that important?

I think I understand the point you are making, but Wonder Woman is an iconic figure that everyone already has a pre existing vision of. And there isn't enough footage to discuss anything besides slowmo, the color green, and her appearance

I also think she looks a little small, but she looks convincing in the costume

Well considering this is a film, and not theater, yeah, it kind of is. Especially when playing an established character. Even Tom Hardy, as much as he bulked for Bane, still had fans complaining that he was too small (and Hardy played the role well and is an amazing actor). I don't know why female characters should be except, because some of you think it's impossible or unrealistic for them to put on muscle. Like I said in my first post, I like the costume and look of the movie, I just think she looks small

True, but we can't expect a film to always match the exact image we have of a character in our minds.

Did they? They must be an incredibly small minority as I didn't see much of that kind of feedback. Probably safe to ignore them.

I don't feel like it's body shaming to say that she doesn't have the physique for such an iconic role. And this is filmed footage, not just publicity or production shots. They failed to pull it off. She doesn't look like Wonder Woman. She looks like a runway model in a costume.

We actually can for comic characters. Its not like they are only images in your head since they've been drawn for like 50 years. It's pretty much the first thing always discussed with comic portrayals, man or female. Remember the will smith reveal of dead shot?

Aren't there like a dozen different portrayals of Wonder Woman over the years, some muscular, some not. Of course you can have your opinion about it, but it is not like her look in the movie is drastically different suddenly from some comics.

I'm not really sure what's feminine about this

This moment could be 1:1 in a Captain America movie and no one would bat an eye

I do believe Wonder Woman should fight in a hard hitting way, but making any judgments from those 2 seconds of action scenes is more than just jumping the gun.

gal gadot

and that actresses that were rumored to play WW before GG landed the role

Jaimie Alexander

Olga Kurylenko

Emily Blunt

They all have similar body type, so you were going to complain regardless if it was Gadot or any of those actresses playing WW?

Exactly. It's the same case with Leto's Joker really. There's so many different iterations in the comics, saying he doesn't look like the Joker doesn't really make sense.

What a bizarre statement. First and foremost she is a model, not an actress. She was cast in Fast & Furious coming out of the Miss Universe pageant with no acting experience. She was cast entirely based on her appearance. There is no notion that she is going to deliver a compelling performance.

I don't think we're ever going to find out why Gal Gadot was cast in the first place. I also wonder if we're actually going to hear her speak before BvS is released.
Word is she screen tested for the role, acting alongside Ben Affleck, and impressed. She may or may not have known exactly what the role was for when auditioning.

I feel like people are jumping on these comments as if people are jumping on her look because she's a woman or something.

Sure there may be a dozen different portrayals of her. But she's usually displayed as a muscular Amazon. Are we really going to pretend you don't understand what people mean when they say she looks skinny or small. You don't have to agree, but damn it's hard for me to believe you don't understand why people are saying this.

Why would they cast someone if they didn't believe she could give a decent performance? The whole thing would fall apart.

It's too early to say how she'll be yet.

What a strange thing to think.

Because I don't think she looks skinny or small from the footage I've seen. She looks pretty much like Wonder Woman images that pop up when I google them. So pointing at the comics how this is a "wrong" portrayal doesn't add up.

Blunt got kind of jacked for edge of tomorrow, not sure that applies.

I also don't really care about this issue, just pointing that out.

This has bomb written all over it.

I wouldn't go so far as to say it will bomb, but I don't think it's going to rock the box office either. My hunch is it will probably take in a bit over half of what Man of Steel did. From a general audience point of view it looks drab and boring, that blue/green desaturation that DC has a thing for in the DC movie universe is just really depressing, I wish they wouldn't be so afraid of color. I heard a lot of people complain about this in MoS, I personally agree with the complaints, as the pre-production shots of Cavill in the suit looked fantastic IMHO and much MUCH better than how MoS looked. WW looks like it will have the same "atmosphere".

On a personal note though, I just don't like the Gadot casting. I thought she was wrong from the beginning and every reveal of her in action since has only cemented that feeling. I think she's attractive and she might be a good actress, but she doesn't LOOK like Wonder Woman to me. I have to agree she looks like Taylor Swift doing WW cosplay, that's a great way to describe it. When I think of WW I picture someone more like Xena (Lucy Lawless), or a woman who looks like Floor Jansen, the lead singer of Nightwish. Attractive women who are also imposing and actually look like they could hold their own in a fight wearing armor. I'm guessing they are simply betting on the fact that WW is a relative unknown with most people so they can get away with it, because most people unfamiliar with the character probably just won't care.

So, I'm going to see it, but I'm not expecting anything on Winter Soldier level, rather just another mediocre Man of Steel type comic book film. I'd love to be pleasantly surprised though!

I'm guessing her audition opposite to Ben Affleck meant nothing at all, right?

I'm going to say the audition process for WW was probably a bit more rigorous than whatever her role in Fast and the Furious was.

Speaking of people who aren't actors, remember when Will Smith was put at the center of a TV show strictly because he had a shitload of debts to pay and had absolutely zero acting training, and needed a shit ton of help when the camera wasn't rolling? Seemed to work out for him.

They're all bigger than her. You say similar, but if we look at any other picture of them it's obvious. And they've all looked bigger in their action roles (Olga has only been in QoS, where she wasn't expected to be buff). You can't honestly think Gal in this has the same physique as Blunt in Edge of Tomorrow can you?

What do you mean Olga has only been in Quantum of Solace?

Gal Gadot: 1.78m
Olga Kurylenko: 1.74m
Emily Blunt: 1.71m
Jaimie Alexander: 1.75m

that's going from height, she is taller therefore more imposing.

Wonder Woman

Sif

They look pretty similar to me.

I'm no expert but wouldn't she put on more weight if they wanted her to? I don't imagine they asked her and she just went 'nah guys i'm good'

Is it not possible that's what the studio/people in charge want her to look like?

I think the fact of the matter there's only so much "jacked" a Hollywood actress can get. I'd be more concerned about Gal Gadot's ability to carry a movie than the size of her guns. :P

Word is she screen tested for the role, acting alongside Ben Affleck, and impressed. She may or may not have known exactly what the role was for when auditioning.

Since WB doesn't really want to show us, I guess we'll find out in BvS.

She's already been putting on weight. She was rail thin in Fast Five.

Gal is of similar build to many current drawings of Wonder Woman. Hell, Lynda Carter owns the role and she was slim too.

Well, to be fair they can ask but that doesn't mean she has to listen. It's not like they are going to delay shooting until she bulks up. I just always think about Marlon Brando showing up as a whale to Apocalypse Now and driving Coppolla nuts.

That said, are ya'll still harping on about her body image, Jesus can you talk about nothing else? I don't give a shit if she's jacked or not I care if the movie is any damn good, stop trying to push for an idealized comic book look on a movie actor which cannot possibly be achieved by a real life individual. Grant Gustin looks like he could be knocked over by a gust of wind but he's FANFUCKINGTASTIC as The Flash. I don't need him to be jacked.

Pretty much. ITT we wonder why actresses don't fill up on HGH as much as male actors do.

Of course. If they wanted her to look different for the role, she would do that. Stuff like that is in the agreement when you sign up. Or they would have cast someone different.

She also trained and worked out for the role to increase muscle. She looks fine for the role.
