As someone who's made quite a few movies and loves a great color grade job, all the internet armchair quarterback spitball complaints about color saturation by the comic book movie crowd continue to be laughable.

Generic, perfectly white balanced color has its place. I enjoy different styles and visual palettes.

Non-realistic color ≠ "Bad" color.

Does color cease to exist during wartime? It's not like people are saying that it needs to look like Oz but the clips they put out are ridiculously dark.

They are still shooting, just wanted to give the fans something. In post-production these things get changed, pretty sure this isn't the final look.

I don't mind this portion of the movie being shot in a very drab nature. It's WWI.

However if they show Themyscira and it's shot like this it'll be total bullshit. That place has to pop with bright colors and have that paradise feel to it.

For lack of better examples... Thor's home planet of Asgard. Or make it pop like Gods of Egypt.

I love how Demi Moore, Emily Blunt and Jessica Biel keep getting brought up.

"Look at the three times this happened in the history of women in action movies! See!? See!?"

Look at Gal in the FF movies and then check her out in this and BvS. She put on a lot of weight. You're just not happy that she didn't get even bigger. Which was 98% likely because she wasn't asked to. It's very very possible she's as big as they wanted her to be. That would mean your anger should be directed at WB for that decision. It's not like Gal is high profile enough to make demands.

"Should have hired a bigger actress" is a dumb comment to make if that's not what WB wanted.

I get that they're still shooting but that hasn't stopped anyone from preemptively making excuses for why it's so dark if it ends up with the same look when it comes out.

Ya know, I say this as someone who would prefer a more muscular Wonder Woman, Gadot's more petite physique isn't somehow an invalid representation of the character. It's fine to want something we didn't get but at some point, you have to get over it and try to take what we got for its positive aspects rather then dwell on what could have been. If she ends up sucking as WW, well we'll have something else to talk about, but this constantly retreaded body scrutiny is making a mountain out of a molehill.

As far as "botched" comic book character representations on screen go...I don't think Gadot qualifies. This isn't a Wolverine Origins Deadpool situation or anything close.

I think she hits the mark. Unfortunately her politics have really soured me to her as an actor.

Yeah, I just looked her up, and her politics are pretty much what you'd expect from an ex-IDF soldier. Yuck.

Gadot is just miscast in this role. Nothing I've seen so far indicates otherwise.

It also hasn't stopped people from judging the entire movie based on 20 seconds of early footage...

For whatever reason, the stuff online looks darker and more muted than what I saw on TV. And no, I don't have my TV brightness and color settings maxed out. I know how to calibrate my set (plasma) thank you very much. I thought the stuff they showed looked great. And, like stated above, I'm guessing when she's back on her home island it'll switch to a brighter "utopian" color/lighting palette ala Thor.

I'm gonna give Gal Gadot a chance. I will. A huge part of me does wish whoever playing Wonder Woman actually had long black hair and blue eyes but I will give Gal Gadot a chance. Just please be charming and fight brutal. Not gruesome fighting but I would love to see Gadot doing cool fight moves off walls and acrobatics.

I know it's been done over and over but I would love to see a cool fight scene of Gadot being surrounded by a bunch of bad guys and the camera starts spinning around them as they fight. The camera can zoom in and out at really cool parts. I bet that sounds lame to some of you but it looks very awesome in my head.

You're in luck because Snyder is involved in this project and JL...

Zack Snyder so far has been on point with all of his casting. If Gal had Affleck's blessing as well then I have hope that she'll do well.

Yep. I'll try and be as objective as possible while watching her performance but it'll be very difficult because her views completely tainted my opinion of her. Her comments were awful,

Aren't there like a dozen different portrayals of Wonder Woman over the years, some muscular, some not. Of course you can have your opinion about it, but it is not like her look in the movie is drastically different suddenly from some comics.

Wonder Woman and a few DC characters are harder to cast than Marvel characters.

She's not someone like Black Widow or Black Cat where there is a lot less pressure.

I can't remember the last time an actress was under so much scrutiny.

"She's too thin!" "Needs to be jacked with HGH for me to take her seriously as WW" "Can't act!" "She's a model not an actor!"

Good lord.

I don't understand the distinction. Either way, Gal, in her current form, is not up to snuff with what most of us wanted/expected.

Too early to really get a sense of how it'll turn out but I do hope they make it a little more colorful. I know some people probably find the whole "DC movies have no color" thing, but if any movie in their lineup should be colorful, it's Wonder Woman.

My point is you don't have to be happy about the casting but blaming Gal for not getting bigger is silly. It was very likely not up to her what size she was/is.

Well, to be fair, I don't think any of us who are criticizing Gal are saying it's her fault that WB went with her.

Well it kind of is, right? She auditioned for something (she has said she didn't know what she was auditioning for, she read opposite Affleck) and based on her performance they hired her. That's on her, lol.

Yes, she should have turned it down because she knew that some young males on the internet may not view her as their version of the ideal WW.

She looks out of character. Like she's pretending to be WW. She so puny too, like she can break easily. Looks crap tbh. Complete miscast

Ezra isn't blonde, I suppose he's miscasted too. Jason isn't even Blonde either, he's miscast as well.

Again, most (I think) aren't putting this on Gal. She probably looks exactly how they wanted her to and WB is satisfied with that. As a WW fan, I'm not even looking for some crazy idealized version here. I would just appreciate an iconic female superhero to look a bit more than eye candy at this point. Basically, the casting is disappointing to female fans as well. Perhaps her acting will fill the rest of that armor and save the day. I have no idea, but it's a bit lame to see another model figure in arguably one of the most powerful roles in comics. Some variety (and believability) would be a welcome addition to female action heroes on the screen, especially if they're meant to be among the elite fighters in their universe.

At any rate, I feel bad for Gal as none of this is really on her, IMO, but it does dampen my enthusiasm for the movie. Guess we'll see how it goes.

Wow, I had no idea what you guys were talking about until I looked it up.

That's...unfortunate.

One of the best female action stars right now is a short, skinny lady.

Quit complaining about Gal Gadot's body. It doesn't matter as much as people think it should.

I don't think they need to cast someone who is has a UFC conditioned body. What I do think they need to cast, is someone that doesn't look awkward throwing some muscle around. Something about her stance and how she holds her sword just feels awkward or unnatural to me. Especially in that last BvS trailer. She should be using props anyways right? But sometimes it just comes across like she isn't really her in role as she should be.

Looking at the field of Hollywood actresses that could fit WW, they're all eye candy. Gal would be among tops on any list for the role either way. There's isn't any one actress that makes me think damn, they should've went with her... Especially now after seeing how well Gal pulls off the look.

An unknown is the only way they'd find someone jacked, who looks the part, and is also young enough and charismatic enough to carry the role for several years. Good luck with that.

And I agree. I specifically said I'm not asking for a body builder type (earlier post) to fill the role, just someone who looks a bit more capable, and comfortable (as you say) throwing a bit of weight around. It does all look a bit off. An absence of weight, of strength... I just see her arms and think that her prop sword must be made of cardboard for her to lift it. :(

Eye candy is not going against the character. She is beautiful. Only being eye candy is where the problem is. We're not talking about Bliss (Dv8) here. WW is supposed to be a fighter foremost, not a pretty face. I do see what you mean about the casting issue, though. Who, if not Gal, would work? Personally, I'd have been happy with an unknown who has the traits I think are most important to the character, but we'd have run into the same issue from the other side. Ideally, Gal's prep regiment would have been to add a lot more muscle (yes, it is possible for women to beef up more without spilling into body builder proportions), but the Hollywood version of female superhero doesn't seem to care about anything other than a cursory nod to strength and focuses more on the generic 'pretty' for women. It's that standard that I have a problem with, especially for a character who really is a great mix of beauty and strength. It feels like such a bloody waste.

EDIT to add: Too bad Lynn Collins isn't really an option.

Every-time I see her ...all I can see is her role in "FAST & FURIOUS" where she didn't really particularly shine in the acting department...

But I'm gonna give her a chance. I really am. I keep saying that her being charming and a brutal fighter is all I need.

I feel the FF movies are a bad bar to judge by even though it's all people have to go by with her. No one in those movies shined acting wise. It was all awful across the board. Those movies are fun just because of the crazy action.

Ah, that's why his Batsuit has no neck!

She looks like she can pull it of. My only worry is her acting and of course the director's ability to shoot action scenes.

Does she ever fight a man?

Frequently. In one of those cases, she was on Apokolips fighting Darkseid's Furies (basically Darkseid's elite guard that are always women) with Big Barda (an ex-Fury herself). In the other she was fighting Superwoman, who was her counterpart in the Crime Syndicate.

And Superman is solar powered, but they still give him the muscles, because that's the traditional way to visually indicate physical strength.

exactly where I am on it. I think that's likely what they're going for seeing as how "man's world" is at war and obviously the amazons left it behind due to the constant suffering
