So i guess cliffy b stole my girl last night...

because more often than not on reddit it's community managers, industry figureheads or indie devs people who aren't as beholden to contracts or its their job to communicate with the community at large, not your day to day programmer / artist / designer. plus reddit is a much bigger community so ofcourse there are more devs/ dev involvement there
Ok, so why do people like Major Nelson contuinally post on the Xbox One subreddit but not on here, when he has an account?

Ok, so why do people like Major Nelson contuinally post on the Xbox One subreddit but not on here, when he has an account?

Because it is easier to manipulate the visible content of a reddit thread, as things are moved around with votes, which can be easily attained. There is no way to hide negative statements on Gaf threads unless a mod removes them entirely, which isn't going to happen. That makes Reddit by it's very nature, more friendly to those who have issues they do not want to discuss, or have anger directed at them that they do not want to address.

Basically Reddit is the pussy version of Gaf.

A friend isn't considered your "girl". Even if somehow she's your girl, she going to someone else means she wasn't yours in the first place..

Ok, so why do people like Major Nelson contuinally post on the Xbox One subreddit but not on here, when he has an account?

Because his job is in part PR and when he communicates with the community he wants that communication to be seen by as many people as possible in a positive manner. On here he would get asked difficult questions he didn't want to reply to where both answering or not answering would leave him in a sticky situation. Also GAF as a community is much more critical of a figurehead taking part in the kind of discussions we have than a congregation of xbox fans in the X1 subreddit.

while gaf is in part for gaming news, it is also about the deconstruction of games as a media as an art form, we have discussions on how art clashes with business, how artists and businesses work together to produce a product that sells yet still expresses the artist's vision and the compromises that are made by both parties in the process of game development. It's not really the place for PR persons to take part in such discussion.

What in the what now?

Basically every subreddit is an echo chamber. This can still happen of GAF (community threads), but is overall much less likely.

I assume someone already PM'd OP about this?

Yeah someone PM'd me

Can't believe this is back. She messaged me about this thread shortly after Cliff found out and we haven't talked since I don't think. Pretty sure we're still friends on the Facebook and I think I remember seeing her getting married like he said. This thread was not my best work.

You guys took this way too serious lol.

Women will most of the time opt for a powerful partner to date, whom can elevate their status in society.

And in today's society money and fame are the power.

It's genetics, don't blame women.

I disagree. On GAF a negative post is lost in the thread if you don't purposely go back and find it, whereas on Reddit it will rise to the top to be read by every user if it is voted up.

Reddit isn't a hive of positivity, it is full of negative posts and trolls. The truth / popular opinion post will always win out and if that is a negative opinion it will rise to the top with all the others like it.

On GAF even if a negative opinion is the popular one, you still have to manually go back and read all the comments to find them.

I'm just assuming you've never posted on Reddit.

Or in other words, he would be instantly dogpiled by a bunch of Playstation owners no matter what he says. He knows it would be a complete waste of time engaging.

Think hes just saying they had a party in the VIP area?

I mean, I don't know what kinds of VIP areas you go to, but I'm pretty sure it's not just a bunch of people hanging around watching Netflix :P

Also, I've never seen this thread before and I'm laughing so hard I might die. GAF never fails.

You can be critical of a company and ask a person questions no matter what console you own. But yes the ultimate reason would be that he doesn't have as much control over his message and how it's perceived on gaf as opposed to reddit, for whatever reason.

If anything, reddit is the worst for that as any question in which the greater community want answered, will be up-voted to the top. On GAF, you can skip a post and it's lost in the previous pages.

EDIT: Just realised this thread was made 6(!) years ago. Good reason to bump.

OP returns to the thread like someone returning to the cemetery years after a death in the family. We'll always remember this thread fondly and want to celebrate rather than mourn.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you, OP.

Oh I know that, but there is genuine constructive criticism, and then there are internet forums, GAF included. Even decent moderation doesn't save GAF's signal-to-noise ratio. An xbox exec posting anything on GAF is walking into the lion's den.

Reddit does have the benefit of not having topics as easily waylaid by people going for "dat first post!", which on GAF can easily turn into 2+ pages of low content replies, response gifs, or people reposting the first post.

but subreddits are inherently circlejerky. you aren't going to get people being critical of undertale to toby fox on the undertale subreddit for example.

Then I'd say what is "noise" to you may be "signal" to me. yes the xbox suxx shitposts aren't helping anyone but questions on what were the real plans of family sharing, why microsoft went so deep with their initial plans and how they could be so oblivious to how the gaming community would react. Why they thought a multi tiered yet "world wide" launch of their console was a good idea. The decisions behind their hardware / software vision.

if Ken Kutagari posted on gaf back in 2006-10 I would have liked to have seen the same sort of questions. but these kind of things either don't get asked or get brushed under the rug in dedicated subreddits, because they are full of people who are invested in the specific topic at hand.

Well he was accused of bribery for failing to give a handshake. Gaf is a tough crowd in a good way sometimes and sometimes posters are obnoxiously sensitive to every letter typed by a guy like Larry. I don't blame him. I don't know if Reddit is any better.

Would rather be edged out by Druckmann or Avellone tbh

That random Tweet-to-GAF bump was great, though.

So after all these years where do you stand? Still with the "fuck you cliffy" or are you at peace now lol?

Cliffyb strikes me as a petty and self-centered man. You'd think he'd have better things to do than dredge stuff like this out of the muck.

"fuck you cliffy" was tongue in cheek so I am at peace. I honestly never had anything against him and he seems to be doing well in work and seems happy in his personal life.

Maybe I'll stop by his bar next time I'm in the area.

It's really sad that it's like this, it's made this forum seem very one sided in the worst way.

You just need to look at the reaction on here anytime Aaron Greenberg, Xbox Marketing Manager, tweets or makes a PR statement to see how fruitless it would be for Major Nelson to engage GAF. Every time Greenberg tweets a blatant PR tweet, there is a thread full of people complaining. He reiterates the Xbox marketing message of 2015 being the best lineup on Xbox ever, and a bunch of people rush to their keyboards to moan that PS4 has a better line-up, or they personally disagree, completely ignoring the context of the message. Any intelligent posts are quickly buried in a sea of snark and stupidity.

What? Someone bribes someone to not give a handshake? Say what now?

I'm pretty sure NeoGAF would prefer meaningful discussion with the developers anyways instead of constant PR garbage.

If a dev came here and spewed PR crap, he'd get dogpiled very quickly.

If that's the case, then why do these threads tend to get more posts and views than the threads which actually have good content?
