Fire Emblem Fates' localization doesn't have the petting minigame

Honest reaction? I don't care.

I'm going to judge the game based on what I experience, not what some other country experiences. If I feel something is missing, then I'll look into localization changes or whatever, but until then? Dun give a fuck.

I suggest a lot of you upset people do the same. Stop worrying about what other places experience, it does you no benefit.

I actually had zero interest in this game. I found all the marriage crap in the last one off putting and this seemed like a step up in the weird creepiness. might consider picking this up now.

I think buying a game with cut content just to stick it to the "crybabies" is really petty

But you won't buy it anyway so no skin off my nose

Seems kind of weird that a tiny minigame that doesn't have a huge effect with it's stat boosts has people going "This is totally not worth a full price release anymore I can't believe it"

I wasn't much of a fan of it anyways. It makes sense in games like Nintendogs and Pokemon, putting in a game like Fire Emblem just feels wrong. There's a million more ways to show affection than petting.

are you fucking serious? Why are people celebrating removing features. This is not acceptable. I don't care how stupid it was, stop trying to dictate what other regions want Nintendo.

Nintendo is out of control with this lately. I guess they're too afraid of losing sales in the West. Would anyone who planned to buy this have changed their mind if this stuff was left in?

If I'm remembering correctly, the other instances of NOA changing things as of late were all involving the sexualization of minors right? The costumes in Fatal frame and the outfits in Xenoblade X? Some stuff that flies in Japan doesn't fly in the West. In those cases, for valid reasons.

Also to answer you, no, I would have bought it anyway.

It would be localization if they replaced it with something of equal value, ie: raising support stats. They're straight-up cutting content and tons of voice acting, in this case.

Did they have extra lines, or are you just referring to the ooh's and aah's they make?

... I don't like this news one bit.

I don't get the point of cutting perfectly legit content that could be ignored by those who don't want to use it. I have seen people play through Pokemon XY and ORAS without ever touching the Pet Feature.

I feel as if it's something weird enough that people would mention during their review of the game. Potentially turning off people who find the feature weird. Regardless of how small of a feature it is.

Yeah its a leap, but that's the only real reasoning I can think for them coming up with to justify the cut.

My hope for the localized version is that they replace a feature like this with something else.

Maybe taking a unit out on a date to a restaurant mechanic or something? :P

Cancelled my SE Amazon.com preorder

Got a Amazon.ca SE instead

😃

Making Fire Emblem more like old Fire Emblem is my fanservice. And there's nothing wrong with fanservice! Please let me be serviced :P I'm looking forward to more localization changes.

You have a loooooooong way to go to make the series anything like it used to be.

Considering that the most common reaction is "Thank GOD" I assume that they listened to what their western fans wanted.

That's still a chunk of content that will be missing from a version of a game for no reason other than "we don't think you should play it."

The reason is more along the lines of not wanting to be lumped in with the VITA rubbing games in the eyes of Western audiences. Making it optional doesn't stop it from showing up in reviews, lets plays, etc.

I'm not trying to stick it to anyone. they're selling a better game over here so I'm considering purchasing it instead of ignoring it.

It remains to be seen what impact this will have in terms of sales. Personally, I'm for the change. The localization effort is addressing some of the concerns I had with what I was seeing from the Japanese version.

They should have just changed it to a more accepted way of showing affection in the west, like a hug. I guess that's way more effort than simply removing it.

I think it's about something called "principle"

Heavy-handed, but not a massive issue unless it removes stat boosts and there's no way to compensate for it. (Have the game preordered but haven't followed it that closely, so I dunno.)

People really are into their facerubbing.
Srsly personally them removing this I equate with a dev making korean MMO's playable for a western audience.

The feature was awful, it's mobile game kinds of bs awful(shit like wait x hours to do y, micro transaction, etc). It's repetitive kind of adds nothing.

But whatever guess people like that shit.

If I had the choice I would want them to offer a JAP patch removing in from my version too.

every bad idea that someone comes up with must be made and released for consumption because doing otherwise is censorship

I have literally no idea. If you don't care that's fine, but why would anyone ever be happy about something like this? It's a very slippery slope. One day they might censor something you wanted.

And it is 100% censorship. People that are happy about the specific change don't want to call it that, because the word "censorship" has a much more negative connotation than "localization," but it is censorship.

Honestly if Nintendo (or any company for that matter) was considering or was likely to release a title for overseas you'd think it'd be more appropriate to make sure all the content is deemed appropriate overseas?

nintendo should burn for this

let's all go to twitter and let everyone know we shall not be silenced #boycottfates

It's my pet peeve with the western fandom, thinking that the series started with the seventh game and completely ignorant of anything from 1-6.

Have you even played 1-6? None of them are anything like how it is now. The marriage system didn't work anything like it did in Awakening/If, and it was in one game.

So a thing I just learned (or was reminded of; I think I heard it before) thanks to Twitter is that these bits had their voiced clips in binaural audio. I don't think it's that surprising that it was cut based on that alone, hmm.
Depends on what recording studio was used to record the game. I don't know for certain if places like PCB have the tools for binaural, but they certainly have crazier stuff, so it wouldn't be too much of a stretch. If this was recorded at Cup of Tea like Awakening was, though, then yeah, binaural would've been completely out of the picture.

But she's not the only woman that works in the Treehouse. I know I shouldn't expect any sort of logic from those people, but that would be weird even for them.
I imagine it's largely because she regularly posts on Twitter with quotes of the worst of 4chan about her and Treehouse. That has to keep the fires pretty well stoked.
