Fire Emblem Fates' localization doesn't have the petting minigame

Wow, this is some 90's-style Nintendo censorship. Or is this "localization" again?

Guess Nintendo decided that optional rubbing was too extreme for the international market and the poor delicate demographic that'll be buying Fire Emblem. It's okay to have in Pokemon though, ignore that.

NOOOOOO

CZq5UQ9UUAEF-U1.jpg

That's the confession scene. You still get that.

More worried about Nintendo Treehouse injecting epic memes into the translation than I am touching faces tbqh.

The audience that buys nintendo games (little kids) love memes

Dude tons of games have extra features that have jack shit to with the main game. It's probably for the same reason there's a kart racer in a Mortal Kombat game.

poor analogy, Mortal Kombat is well known to have spin-off minigames in their titles. Test Your Might in MK1 for example

I like how "TREEHOUSE MEMEMEMEMEME" is now a meme and far more annoying than a couple minor sentences in a joke Zelda spin off.

Forget that they've always been regarded as having some of the best translations. All that got thrown away because they made a doge reference in a Zelda spin off!

Let's be honest here. Petting Pokemon in X and Y was dumb. This probably would have been too. And from what I gather, it is the same concept. Just so long as the campaign stories are good, I really don't care.

I'm more concerned that Not-Tharja's name is Rhajat. Treehouse, what are you even doing with these names? It was weird enough that you had to find some big difference between Harold and Arthur.

... though wait, was this the only way to grind supports for the Nohr side? That could be a bummer.

I mean it's an anagram, just like her japanese name was ... it's very true to the intent of the original game.

I meant manaketes in general have been in the series for a long time, not just being able to marry them. I should have been clearer, sorry.

It's cool.

Also since we're verging into spoiler territory, I'm going to bow out of this thread. I want to go into Fates as blind as possible and I don't trust my curiosity getting the better of me.

She certainly looks like a kid.

Sorry but no. Ninian looks like she could be Eliwood's age and certainly looks older then Nowi and Fae.

Correct, but there's a stylus icon in that screen, so that particular screen probably is from the minigame.

Sorry but no. Ninian looks like she could be Eliwood's age and certainly looks older then Nowi and Fae.

I had to double check, and yeah Ninian doesn't look like a kid to me either. (Her little brother does look way younger than her for some reason though, even though I doubt they're very far from each other in age)

Because everything is creepy these days. Hell, you can't even talk or look at girls you find attractive anymore because you're liable to be called that.

Maybe you suck at talking to women. Hell, talking to people. No one is telling you these things. You're not being persecuted.

no

I could understand Nintendo taking it out if it was going to get the game an M rating, but it seems pretty tame based on the gif in this thread. Americans are so weirdly puritan about the subject of sex.

I doubt you'll hear much vocal backlash about this after today since it's incredibly easy to pirate the translated Japanese copy. Curious how the sales will be effected by this.
Believing sexual pandering isn't a good fit for every single video game is not puritanical. And there's no sex in this game anyway, let alone a mature depiction of it - just weird waifu petting. And I'm not American, lol.

Congrats to the localization team, they seem to have removed everything i was hating about this game,

This game now went from "eeehh" to "will buy"

You will take your segregated western version and like it.... apparently.

Yet another vile act of censorship from the SJW overlords

/s that thing was creepy as fuck, glad the gay conversion is gone too what the the semi-legitimacy gay conversion camps had for a long time in certain communities of the US

The fact we had people defending that spoiler on Gaf is what's really concerning for me.

I understand Sakurai's argument, but I don't entirely agree. Products are by and large the sum of their parts. Mind you, sometimes I think a product comes together to be better than or worse than the sum of their parts, but everything about it comes together to add to or detract from the whole of the product. If a feature is ostensibly bad -- and I should note here that I'm not saying that everyone agrees that this is but for the sake of argument I'm going to suggest that we go with it being a universally reviled feature -- the fact that it's optional doesn't mean that the people who think it makes the game worse will automatically be able to just completely ignore it. You know it's there. There are even suggestions of stat boosting and character background that suggest that it may otherwise be worth while even if you're put off by the rubbing. So I'm not really convinced that it's fair to suggest that it's a feature that can be entirely ignored by non-fans.

Wouldn't the inability to separate an entirely optional feature from the rest of the experience be on the individual, however? It's entirely a personal preference whether or not to engage that feature, and the game notably gives you the tools and capability to avoid it entirely. If someone chooses to act as if the feature is detrimental to their game when they can for all intents and purposes continue as if it was never implemented, then that is more their personal choice to make than wrongdoing on the part of the developers.

Unless the talk of conversations potentially remaining is true (which I'd be okay with personally and I assume it'd be something like Awakening's Barracks conversations), cutting the feature outright kind of comes to show how inconsequential it really is though, especially if no replacement is available to cover for the supposed boosts you get, which according to people who have played the game, is of very little benefit. It's like an even lesser version of Pokémon-Amie.

I overall agree with the point you're presenting since it applies in a lot of contexts; like imagine how awkward it'd be if you'd have something like hidden cultist propaganda obscured in the game. I just don't agree this is one where the line ought to be drawn.

It's okay in Pokemon because 90% of Pokemon are animals and Pokemon are basically pets, not comrades in a war.

Kind of a bit of a difference.

Horny people who are into hentai and have no shame.

They shouldnt have shame as there is none to be had.

alright to know its fine to touch machop family in the crotch or jynx's breast... because they're animals :D /s(to the max... i cant stress this enough)

Agreed.
The complaining about memes is now more common than the actual memes that appear.

A good decision imo. It was a weird and unnecessary addition at best, and the game is probably better without it.

Wait...wait WHAT!?

Is that...Tharja!? Is she actually in the game?! Why did she dye her hair?

Nah, this game has a handful of character clones of characters from Awakening.

I know someone will correct me on this, but I feel that specifying which ones are the clones(and which ones aren't clones) is a spoiler.

Well , if its that easy to pirate the japanese version, and a fantranslation already exists, its entirely possible that sales could be affected either way.

Why are people worried about memes from the Treehouse? There's very few games that have that.

Hell, the only ones i'm fully aware of is Zelda and Splatoon, but to a certain degree. I know Awakening had "memes", but that wasn't a treehouse translation.

so to my understanding some things like dialogue and stat boosts are lost with this removal?

I couldn't give 2 shits about the actual minigame, but I hope they have a way of getting those original benefits in the game in a different manner. If they don't, then this is not a good thing in my eyes.

although I didn't have it in me to read the whole thread, maybe that's the case and if so, this isn't as big an issue.

alright to know its fine to touch machop family in the crotch or jynx's breast... because they're animals :D /s(to the max... i cant stress this enough)

Well they're not going to make a distinction between a humanoid and an animal. That wouldn't be worth the effort.

Would you think petting a Pikachu or Meowth is weird? It's an all or nothing feature.

Wait, (character name spoilers I guess)
Not-Tharja is really localized as Rhajat?

That's fucking terrible, Shara was waaaaaaaay better.

you're not rubbing their butts or privates
its just an lol feature to mess around with since they had those live2d models already

You can almost always translate anime fans' definition of 'cute' to 'creepy' for typical mainstream folk.
I dislike these generalizations :(
