Fire Emblem Fates' localization doesn't have the petting minigame

I don't know if it was well-known enough to the mass public. But I think her design is more off-putting than not to the general consumer base, so I can only see it as a negative selling point if more people were aware of her design. But I don't like. Some of it is personal feelings. Frankly, I find her design to be disgusting.

I think people wouldn't have cared about her design if she couldn't married. Well they wouldn't care as much.

Also I find it funny they left her conversation with Tharja unedited in American, but got censored in Europe.

What a bunch of prudes.

Now we are looking to put scarlet letters on people based on what the accuser has determined to be 'creepy'.

The irony is thick.

The minigame itself was kind of dumb... remove it for that, not because some one in Colorado is offended

Anime avatars are pretty much seen as a scarlet letter. Heh.

honestly, i'm just upset that it took like a year and a half and they didn't even translate the whole thing, lol :P

It's only 8 months, isn't it? If came out in June of last year.

I really don't know how the fuck Treehouse is keeping up these days, even with support from 8-4 and Squenix. It's got to be madness up in Redmond.

I have no idea what point you're trying to make here.

The Scarlet Letter is a really bad novel that school's forced people to read by Nathaniel Hawthrone about a woman who gets branded with the letter A for having a relationship out of wedlock (get it, the A stands for adultery). Much of the novel is about her life after and trying to cope with a society that judges her and her child for this. The villain of the novel is named Chillingworth.....yes, it is very subtle. Really, it's just incredibly poorly written. The writing is extremely long-winded and on the nose and bleh. It opens with page after page describing a shrubbery for goodness sake. The worst thing I've ever read as far as quality of writing goes.

Basically he's saying judging this as creepy makes you puritanical.

It's so disheartening to see people praise, cheer and support removal of content. It's like some want less in a game, just so that the average candy crush player sitting on the bus next to them will give their approval.

The whole "censorship is not censorship" mental gymnastics is also pretty jarring to me. People never wanna own up to the terms and labels of the unsavory things they support I guess. Seriously reminds me of people who say "gay people don't deserve the same rights as everyone else, but I'm not a homophobe" argument.

Yeah, Nowi spoke like... "Nowi wants to bla bla bla" I think the term is called "speaking third person" ?? But yeah, like Gregor

Third person. Can't believe I forgot that's what it's called.

The localization made her into a better character and I thought she was one of the better characters in the game.

Eh, I think I'll pass on picking this up then until some kind of decensoring patch is available (assuming that I'll be able to find a way to play it). It's not necessarily that I disagree with the changes, I think the petting minigame and such is lame and shouldn't have been in the game in the first place, but I don't like supporting censorship in any way because I am an artist and I would not be pleased if people removed things from my art that they found tasteless. If it's part of the developer's initial vision, leave it in. I wouldn't have minded one or two changes, but it seems like every other week I'm seeing another thread here about another thing that's been removed from the game, and that's just something that I find wrong on an ideological level.

Continuing Sakurai's food analogy, if there's a little bit of fecal matter in my lunchbox and someone's kind enough to fish it out for me, I say thank you. I'm not sad something got removed from my lunchbox. I'm not sad I'm getting "less food". The overall product is improved. Sure, I could've just ignored the little piece of shit and eaten my way around it, but that tiny turd being in there somewhere made the whole lunchbox worse.

And yes, while there are people out there that love to eat shit, that's really no concern of mine. Even empathy has a limit. Please go and satisfy your shiteating fetish elsewhere and keep it out of my lunchbox.

I could have sworn the gap was larger. It feels like it was released an eternity ago. :P

1) Literally no one is arguing this and what does Candy Crush have to do with anything here?

2) Are you seriously going through the mental gymnastics to compare homophobia to people telling you guys it's just localization. Not to mention a good chunk of the people talking about censorship today were the ones trying to defend gay conversion of all things in this very same game the other day. You couldn't have chosen a worse analogy here.

There's only been two things. This face rubbing thing and a support conversation was changed.

I don't want less weapons, maps, classes, missions, characters, etc. - I want less dumb nonsense. And not in order to have the approval or anyone, but in order to have my own approval. I am the one who doesn't like this stuff, I don't care what anyone else thinks.

Not really surprising this got removed. All their previous localization decisions show that they do not want to sell that kind of content in the west. Nintendo isn't NISA or Xseed. They they want mass appeal and do not want to be stuck with content that affect negatively their image in the west.

I don't think censorship in all forms is inherently bad.

Wow.. people are offended by this being removed? talk about outrage culture.

I'm not sure that it is any less ridiculous than the people being happy that it's gone, posting about how now they can buy the game as if this petting mini-game was the one thing stopping them. give me a break.

As someone who likes to eat shit, I couldn't agree more.

I don't even know how they got it done in 8 months even with the petting removed. They had to localize three games here, and they're not tiny by any stretch. The Red Bull tab would make even Bill Gates pause.

I was up in the air about getting this game but I want to support this practice so I'll likely get it now. I've enjoyed the other Fire Emblem games I've played so the series in not entirely new to me.

Pleasantly surprised with the positive replies in the first page (skipping the 17 inevitable pages of censorship discussion for obvious reasons). To be frank, this seemed less inappropriate than outright silly, can't look at those gifs without laughing. Still glad to see it nuked out of orbit.

There are varying degrees of censorship, which this is on some level, in addition to being a localization choice, and in this instance I find it understandable.

I also don't think "less game" is necessarily a bad thing if the mode in question is judged by the publisher to be so insubstantial that it can be removed and barely affect the value of the game.

Some people are trying to turn this into a point of activism. It's not. It's a choice a corporation made in order to sell their consumer product in another country. No rights are being infringed.

For that matter they aren't even Atlus.

It does make me wish though that Atlus was handling #FE.

hmm? I was looking at the KiA thread and commented on it's hilarity, is there something you're not telling us? and it's hardly the first mention in this thread.

Its just the first mention i happened to see. Just really funny how everything has to be at the expense of gamergate.

Was wondering how they'd handle this during localization and I'm pretty okay with them removing it since the mode made no sense at all in context to the game itself. Heck, I wouldn't even mind if it was still in but they seriously could've implemented it in a better way than a petting mini game. All in all, I'm buying the game because it's FE and I'm gonna enjoy the shit outta it with or without the mode.

Good. :)
Happy with this news.

Maybe they will add in substantial backstory convos or personality snippets or something instead of ego-stroking creepy stuff.

Meh. I don't really like cut content (especially when it's not being replaced by anything else) but I also am not really into the minigame. This isn't a simple outfit swap like Xenoblade X (which i actually agreed with), this is cut dialogue from completely harmless optional content (and yes all of the characters are consenting adults too, not a single
1000 year old dragon girl
in sight).

Some of the "superior version" responses in this thread are pretty eyeroll worthy though. They seem more childish/creepy than the cut content.Who are you to say a game with less (harmless) content is better when the price is the same? Math is hard?

I guess there's the fan translation for the people who want it, so there's that. I won't bother d/ling it, but I will probably not buy one of the SE's I had and get a JP edition instead so i have a copy of the "real' thing too. So technically one lost sale for NoA,

People in this thread want the content cut. People in the DOAX 3 threads go nuts for what is essentially a giant fan service mini game collection. One audience has no choice but to import, one does not need to. One prefers Japanese dubs, one prefers jelly donuts instead of rice balls.

If the mechanic was anything like the rubbing mechanic in Hatsune Miku Project Diva F then we've been saved a load of tiresome grind.

Hopefully there is a replacement method of raising affinity (gifts or whatever) rather than having to grind it up through battle.

It's funny that Nintendo would want to remove it, since it seems very tame (compared to other games with 'rubbing' mechanics).

Personally I'm not really bothered but it's a little disappointing that Nintendo would think something like this would be offensive. I get the idea that Nintendo has this image of Westerners being pearl-clutching puritans who still use chaperones and chastity belts.

you can't tell me this isn't hilarious

Yup couldn't agree more. There's a blatant pedophilic undertone to artistic design choices in that vein and it really grosses me out. I'm flabbergasted to think that there are people out there who want little girls, (I don't care if she's not a little girl or she's a dragon or whatever, just look at her dammit, she's a little girl), dressed in blatantly sexual outfits for the purposes of fan service. I don't like fan service at all, but the allusions to underage stuff in fan service are mind blowingly awful. Fuckin sick shit.

Called it and im glad. For all the people saying they wont buy the game or they're cancelling their pre-orders, please PM me or quote this post so I know how many extra copies I need to pick up.

Thanks.

I like how this has nearly as many posts as the thread about Soleil from last week, despite that one taking 3 days to get there and this one has been up for not even 5 hours.

The game itself doesn't even really seem sexual in nature. The Project Diva games have a similar mechanic and its not of a sexual nature either. It seems of no real substance but I wonder while many will roll their eyes and say "good" that this is gone because for whatever reason they perceived it as creepy. I wonder if the same reaction would be had if quest lines ect were removed for various reasons.

I mean, take Yakuza 3 as an example. That game got chopped up in various ways including taking a fair chunk of the side quest content with it. I just don't think its unreasonable for people to be disappointed that the games content is being altered and changed no matter how insignificant it might be. It just reeks of the 80' and 90's to me where many Japanese games were altered for baffling reasons sometimes for the western market. Stuff like that made sense in the 90's but in 2016 eh... I can see why people are becoming increasingly annoyed by the game being trimmed.

As someone in support of this content being cut I have to say rice balls are delicious.

EDIT: This is a bad top of the page post.

Thought that it was very likely that it was going to be taken out, but the ! mark in the recent amiibo video had me thinking that it might be in as that triggered a petting session in the Japanese release.

There was no way they could get all the voice actors to voice that stuff in the western release, just too much work for not enough payoff, and the petting stuff is incredibly boring in practice.

I just made an involuntary startled sound.

There it is, i was waiting for the post that somehow brings gamergate into this topic.

It was mentioned on the first page...

That was a single support conversation between two specific characters; this is one of the big new features that works with every character in the game. This is a much, much larger change.
