Fire Emblem Fates' localization doesn't have the petting minigame

Kind of just seemed like a harmless silly thing. Not really a big part of the game, but also not really offensive. It was weird, but it also seems weird to remove it.

Pre order cancelled.

Seriously speaking im not bothered at all. It would have been a funny feature if it did ship with it but this game shouldnt have had this mode in the first place. Localization is going great so far.

I understand how it's disappointing when something you liked gets cut or altered, but I think finding petting someone's face "cute" puts you in a pretty niche category. Players that will simply be confused or creeped out by the mechanic seems like it might be a bigger segment of the audience.

It would probably make a giantbomb quick look of the game a bit more entertaining though ;-)

At least you didn't outright call me creepy. I also don't see how anything in the gif Nirolak posted would be considered creepy.

Like seriously, is this not goofy as fuck?

No, this mode had super lewd dialogues. It's not "entirely on the user".

I heard there was innuendo. That's not "super lewd".

yeah no kidding. there are a ton of unreasonable people who are outraged by this.

Wow, look at this, less people outright name calling. I think progress is slowly being made.

It sounds like the only thing that they have not cut or altered in this game is the part where you kill living things.
They should totally remove killing from games about war. That makes exactly as much sense as removing an optional face rubbing minigame.

I don't see where they said that.
He said:

"it amuses me when people want it removed because of possible sexual reasons (which are entirely on the user)"

No, the sexual reasons are indeed there in that mode. It's not the user interpreting random stuff as lewd - the writing is supposed to be lewd.

But why? What's really the point? it's just touching heads. Sure it's fucking weird, but really it's just head touching. I don't get why this is something worth removing from the game.

This is a legitimate case of censorship. This isn't a weird loli thing getting taken out of a localized version. This is a company actually saying that you're not allowed to play this part of the game. That's not an outrageous thing to get upset about.

I want to make it clear that as much as I'm in favor of the change, there's no need to get personal in regards to addressing the people against it. Just assuming that people against the change are part of GamerGate or are otherwise just irrational people is not something I consider participating in the conversation in good faith. Cut it out.

I'm just finding out about this now (it's been a busy day for me).

While I'm not disappointed to see this mini-game be removed, it seems a bit unnecessary to me. The "drugging a female character to make her see the MC as male to cure her of her fear of men" exchange I can definitely see a reason for being removed. That was creepy/disturbing, and needed to be seen to complete her storyline. The petting mini-game, on the other hand, was entirely optional, didn't have to be used/seen if you didn't want to, and was completely harmless. It was strange, for sure, but harmless. You were essentially just poking their face with your stylus, nothing obscene about that.

So yes, I'm not upset about the removal of this mini-game, as it's something I probably would have only done once/twice just for the novelty and then never again. What does concern me, however, is that if they remove something as meaningless as this how are they going to handle SMTxFE or other games with a much higher level of objectionable content? It just seems like NoA is way too eager to remove anything that may cause controversy, without really considering whether they should/shouldn't.

Reality is... there really isn't anything objectionable or even a high level of objectionable content in #FE. I imagine maybe the swimsuits are gone and that's it? Although, that's a scenario changer. That said, the game is absolutely tame, but folks continue to think otherwise.

Please look forward to 10+ threads of people being happy about that game getting gutted as well. I can't wait.

Thanks Steve.
I personally think that this topic isn't a thing that should be discussed so much, especially since it's already decided that the mode will be cut, but the discussion was starting to go places where it became ugly.

I believe some of the lines hint to your touching turning them on and how they want to bed you.

I concede that's reaching in to raunchy, "super lewd", territory then. Not something that's super important to me, but doesn't ultimately change that I feel like it doesn't need to be removed.

They could fight with words, Monkey Island style .
Lol.

People try to use violence to "catch" people being supposedly hypocritical about these changes, but Fire Emblem has always been about war (with its core gameplay revolving around killing without getting killed). And as a veteran fan, I wouldn't be triggered if they changed killing for "fainting", "paralyzing" or whatever, as long as the gameplay remains the same.

Wait, does this apply to the under age characters?
If so, no one should be defending this. No one. I dont care if its a optional S rank. No one should want a pedophilia option in their games.

I was under the impression you could only the pet the girls which seemed silly and kinda creepy but now I find I you can everybody and I'm kinda bummed out Nintendo decided to remove it...

If that is the case, I don't know if it is, they could have just changed the offending lines. I doubt the game goes that far though. But since they completely removed it, the "lewdness" apparently wasn't the thing Nintendo was primarily concerned with anyway.

I know SMT games can get relatively dark, both in the storyline as well as enemy design, so I wasn't sure if that carried over to SMTxFE or not (I haven't read up on it too much, in fear of getting spoiled). I'm relieved to hear that there's not much to remove, it gives me hope that we'll (hopefully) get everything intact (aside from a few costume alterations).

It sounds like there's not much to gut, unless NoA gets scalpel happy and removes things just for the sake of it. There's still hope!

Just like Fox news isn't racist, they just say things that racists really agree with.

I don't see how being against cut content on principle is at all comparable to the cesspool that is Fox News and its fans. Add to the fact that this goes quite further than being against cut content on principle (you know, like the fact it has gameplay relevance) definitely makes it a completely different situation.

Greatly appreciated.

I don't mean to imply that someone is creepy for thinking it's enjoyabe, I've played a game with something similiar to the petting mechanic in it and it was kind of funny with the dialog that was written. Fire Emblem is a more mainstream game now though, as I think Awakening got up to 2 million in sales.

No Petting
NO BUY

Actually it was kind of a bizarre thing to have in the game. I mean, surely they had some better ideas on how to increase friendship or something right?

I think it's kind of shitty to announce the change with the game only a few weeks away. This obviously wasn't a last minute thing and it was obviously going to get a ton of back lash, but with no time to actually change things back even if they wanted to they don't really have to respond to those criticisms.

This is one of those cuts that really don't make any sense. The whole thing couldn't have been handled more poorly.

No one is defending any particular instance or line of dialogue here. They're defending the mode in general. There wouldn't be as much of an outcry if they kept the mode in and toned down the dialogue, just like there wasn't as much of an outcry over the changes with Soliel.

off topic but remember when sega took out the hostess clubs in yakuza 3?

i wonder if people were saying stuff like "good" "thank GOD" etc. when that happened

Is it confirmed NoA is doing the localization and not Atlus? Haven't been keeping up with news on the game very much but that would just be disappointing to hear.

It has been Nintendo MO for several games.
