Real talk, Sakura Taisen was 1996. It's sequel, Sakura Taisen 2 sold over 500,000 copies in the day. The Sakura Taisen series was one of the most popular SRPGs in its time right next to Super Robot Wars.
Not in America, but very well existed in Japan, and more so the PC platform as well. It's not new, you're just seeing it now because it's getting localized.

I love the marriage/child system for gameplay purposes. Creating a hell spawn from a perfect pairing is some fun ass shit. Gaining new (often better) units via mixing a matching was the most fun I got out of the game (especially with the weak story and samey mission design. The latter of which is fixed apparently. With the former left to be seen). Its not about Chrom X Robin 5eva (although this makes Morgan, a hax god) or waifus or husbandos for me but its the whole team building aspect. Same thing from persona, pokemon and a lot of RPGs I like.

Oh. Well to be fair, the games weren't as big so those were more of Skirmishes then Wars
Also Dialed back? They had almost none of that other then Jill/Haar, Leanne/Crow King(I forgot his damn name) and Geoffery/Elincia. Oh yeah the Sothe/Micaiah the only pairing everybody only got. I think this actually disappointed people.

I don't think there's any point of having a discussion anymore--well, a good one, anyways--if one side is already characterize the other side as perverts/abnormal/what-have-you. Plus it's not like Nintendo would reverse their move anyways, regardless of what some might say.
I stand on my opinion though: it's a shame Nintendo does this, and it's even more of a shame that there are people that cheer for this. Ah well, c'est la vie.
I'll probably make a nice profit that's for sure.

Nowi was actually one of the better characters in Awakening. Better then Chrom and Lucina in my opinion.
Also I found Tiki to be "worst" then Nowi. They went way overboard.

I tried to do it this way. I spent the entire game up until the decision point, scrupulously avoiding having any female Chrom could marry being in base contact with him so I could decide on the most optimum pairings. FeMC wasn't having any of that though and I'm a straight male who chose a female MC because they make a better magic user.
At least I got a godly Lucina and a Galeforce Morgan as a consolation prize
I mean, Tiki definitely wanted to bone Marth but she also wore significantly more clothes than Nowi.

I would wager the money people got involved with the art people to put this mode into the game in the first place before other money people removed it.
I'd argue that by magically avoiding all that drivel, you went to all the right places, and none of the myriad wrong places.

Annnnnd I forgot the most obvious pairing lol. I think it did, but it also had lost of talk about incest and Cordelia being...Cordelia. Actually I don't remember I ship for optimal stats. The only pairing I did the same was Sumia/Chrom because the game kept shoving it in my face.

Waifu talk got banned because people got fed upabout people joking about it in every topic. Very few people were serious about it but it did tend to dominate topics even if it was people joking.
Same thing happened for Persona.
I think the majority of Waifu talk is people joking around. At least on Gaf...I am sure that is not the case everywhere

But this is legitimately not the norm for me with this site -- I've never posted in a thread and sparked such focused vitriol from a few fellow members. It's pretty irritating.

No. Tiki had no romance options whatsoever. She was just some adorable kid that's insanely powerful. She was fun to use and a novelty unit in the game.

i legit kinda felt the same way :/ her support convos were pretty cute i get that her design is pretty ehhhhh but as a character i honestly thought she was really likable
i think you may be mismembering but tiki definitely had a thing for marth and if romance options were a thing in that time im pretty sure tiki would have had one with marth
its also kind of weird that tiki in awakening doesnt have a support convo with nowi but has one with nah seems like kind of wasted opporunity

I paired Nowi up with Donnell because that seemed "right" so yeah I wasn't a fan of the idea or design either but it gets old to keep seeing "hurr hurr 1000 year old dragons herp derp" as a way of saying the series has gone to shit...when the trope was present early on too.

Tiki very much had a thing for Marth back in Akaneia, and more so with her reaction to first seeing Lucina in Awakening.

I understand. Sorry you've had to go through that. I'm into the romance aspects of certain games, myself, even.
I certainly don't think anyone is awful for enjoying it. I do think it gets a little weird at times, but I don't begrudge people for liking even the really weird stuff. (Well, maybe the really weird stuff...)
Marth had a girlfriend, so I doubt that. And a girl can have a crush on somebody, it just gets creepy when an adult is reciprocating those feelings.

If you mean Xane's fake Tiki. Tiki was never pandering. Yeah, it was implied she had a crush on Marth, but that was in Mystery of the Emblem. It was also a very minor thing that I can't even remember the conversation other than Xane pretending to be Tiki. Hell, it could even be something fandom drummed up. I'm really sitting here typing this up and can't remember anything about Tiki and Marth.

Sure, but I don't see what that changes. Nowi just gets creepy because she is half naked and adults have feelings back to her. If Nowi just had a crush on Chrom and that went nowhere, nobody would care.

they make a reference to it in awakening with tikis support with nah which implied that she did and the whole mar mar (basically onii-san isnt pandering? just honestly wondering here) at least despite nowis clothes she never went with the pet names(at least from what i remember)

Like people have said, if those games had romances, Tiki would absolutely have been an option for Marth.
But they didn't. So no adult is going after Tiki. That's why nobody cares, the games didn't do that.
If Zelda had Link marry a child, people would be upset. But Zelda doesn't do that, so nobody complains about Zelda. Making up examples is really a poor argument.

Given how often that picture of how Nowi dresses comes up, I'd bet you significant amounts of money she'd still have been controversial (at least on GAF) even if she had no S rank conversations at all.
I think her outfit would be controversial, but not the character herself. I did mention the outfit was problematic too.
