(CNN) Why I'm voting for Trump. A look inside Trump's supporters

Ah, the time-honored combination of bigotry and economic populism, mixed with a wish that we were more open about our imperialism (since if these voters knew anything, they would know that President Obama is as much of an imperialist as his predecessors were in South America, Central America, Asia, and Eastern Europe).

His attitude, one voter said, is that he "seems to just not give a f---."

This is the kind of quality these people want in a President? Trump will be the first President for the Youtube comment generation.

But seriously, not all white people.

These people are detached from reality.

I could at least respect them for being honest about their racist viewpoints if they ever just said what they're thinking, which is what they compliment Trump for doing. Only the most angrily racist of them will just flat out say what they want, and even then we have to deal with a "I'm not racist, but" defense of their words all the time. If what you want is actually best, why the fuck can't you just verbalize it in clear English instead of talking in platitudes and coded language?

This cracked me up:

"I think it's bulls---," said Ziegler, the 61-year-old diehard Trump fan who attended his Columbus, Ohio, rally. "All lives matter. You know this is bulls---- about black lives matter -- doesn't all lives matter?"

Just hours after Trump made the controversial announcement, his supporters -- waiting to hear him speak in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, said they were fully on board.

"I don't want them here," Ed Campbell said. "Who knows what they're going to bring into this country?"

At the same rally, 55-year-old Susan Kemmelin said, "We can't look at a Muslim and tell if they're a terrorist or friendly."

Robert Engelkes, a 45-year-old corn and soybean farmer from Dike, Iowa, pointed out that there is historical precedent for targeting one group.

"What did we do in World War II? We put all the Japanese in internment camps," said Engelkes, who was standing outside a Trump event in Des Moines. "We had to do something with them."

I love this country but seriously fuck these assholes. I'm ashamed to share the same citizenship as these ignorant-ass rednecks.

SMH...also more birtherism crap? College should be free so these morons get an education.

I'm just gonna sit back, grow old, and watch these people continue to freak out as America progresses further away from their idealistic vision.

A mudslide of fun!
Since when did the act of someone "speaking their mind" become more important than the content of what they are saying?

Constantly hear Trump supporters say "well, I don't agree with everything he says, but I like that he doesn't hold back and speaks his mind."

Just admit you agree with the racist bullshit he spews.

Bickie Mason, a contractor from Lyman, South Carolina, who attended Trump's Spartanburg rally in November, said he felt he didn't have a choice but to agree with Trump's idea of tracking Muslim-Americans through a national database.

"I don't believe all Muslims are bad. But anybody can turn bad, and you've got to be able to locate them and know where they're at," said Mason, 64.

And this is why I'm very, very fearful that people are underestimating the reach of Trump's appeal in a general campaign.

the mythology of the good ole days + warped nostalgia = eeeesshh

the past was not cool, seriously. people who long for the old old glory days have no idea how much of that is oversimplified nostalgia as opposed to reality

They see trump as an outlet for these thoughts they have, but cant voice anymore because we are not in 1950 anymore

I think its good, is like in inglorious basterds, the group that was killing the nazis loved their uniform, because they could spot them easy while they were wearing it.

Same here. The more trump fleshes out the racists, the more we can understand their numebrs and motivations, and to know the enemy is the first step to combat them.

These are the kind of people Trump attracts:

Trump’s campaign has attracted racists and white nationalists. At a rally in Alabama last year, one attendee told The New York Times, “Hopefully, [Trump is] going to sit there and say, ‘When I become elected president, what we’re going to do is we’re going to make the border a vacation spot, it’s going to cost you $25 for a permit, and then you get $50 for every confirmed kill.’”

At the same event, another told The Washington Post, “You probably think we’re prejudiced, but my whole life we had niggers work for us in the field. And they were niggers. My daddy called them niggers. I’m not ignorant. That’s just the way I was raised. There’s black people and there’s niggers. You live around here, you know the difference.” At a Trump rally in Las Vegas recently, a black activist was beaten while onlookers yelled things like “light the motherfucker on fire,” and “Sieg heil!”

And I know that not everybody has to share those sentiments to support Trump, but it should really make you think about what it is about Trump that is attracting these people.

I'd be careful to scapegoat education given that many of these people are in their 50s and 60s. It's not the youngsters and their common core-addled brains stumping for Trump.

It's extremely frustrating that the white working class doesn't understand that the problems they face come from capitalists and not from non-white people, but I suppose liberals sneering and laughing at them for being stupid uneducated redneck hicks who can't be helped isn't helping stop the persecution complex.

There are plenty of them.

Donald Trump and Ben Carson are neck-and-neck for support among among potential primary voters ages 18-29, according to polling released Thursday by Harvard's Institute of Politics. Trump gets 22 percent support and Carson gets 20 percent in the survey of 472 potential GOP primary voters conducted in the wake of the third Republican debate Oct. 30 through Nov. 9.

Ever looked at /pol/?

There are certainly plenty of young Trump supporters. I'm in NJ and I work in an office with a lot of Millennials, and while I can say that most of them are Democrats or left-leaning independents, the "centrist"/"moderate" white ones often talk about Trump in the "Well, I don't like the way he says it, but you've gotta admit there's some truth about what he says..." kind of way. Our generation is more progressive than our parents' but there are still plenty of people who fall into the same traps.

I have 2 people in my extended family who think Trump is the best. Having said that neither of them are registered to vote. One says to avoid jury duty, the other just doesnt care.

Rooney, a respiratory therapist in his late 40s, likened Obama's Christian faith to Caitlyn Jenner's recent gender transition: "It is true that he now identifies as a Christian in the same sense that Bruce Jenner identifies as a woman."

Disgusting. Yet also correlating with most of the stereotypes I wish were more unfairly attributed to Trump supporters.

Is there any analysis on the education level of candidates' supporters? For Trump, I feel it tops off at high school.

As if we needed more proof at how awful our education system can be.

Yup this is still a white majority country and liberals are fucking awful at voting unless we have a rockstar politician to vote for.

Don't underestimate Trump's ability to light a fire under the minorities of this country who would normally be more apathetic, either.

Holy shit

Appreciate it's not all of America with these views, however chances are he will be the opponent trying to topple the opposition into the white house.

It's quite shocking TBH.

yeah, you're right. However, let's not allow these bigots to negate the fact Obama has been an ineffective/weak president. Look at how many failed Bush policies Obama continued, and even doubled down on.

He wasn't worse than George W bush, so I'm not sure what your getting at.

Trump isn't nearly as bad as GAF makes him out to be.

Yeah mang I miss slavery too.

Comments like this, and comparing Trump to Hitler are absolutely ridiculous. He's never said anything remotely close to slavery. And comparing him to a guy who was responsible for the deaths of millions of people is so far off it's not even funny.

Maybe if you aren't a minority that Trump spews hatred against.

God, I really hate that Chris Rock made that nigga/black people joke. While hilarious, it just allows people to have one more justification for their bullshit.
