Sony Playstation: First Party Studios & their Current Projects

Sucker Punch is really the only dev I have literaly no idea what they are doing

Sounds like a new IP based on recent interviews with Shuhei and Scott Rohde. Don't expect to hear from them for a while though. In terms of development timeline, they're behind Sony Bend. So until Bend shows their games, I don't expect to see anything from SP.

Sucker Punch is the dev I'm most excited to see something from. I hope we see quite a few dev diaries from them when they start the news cycle. It's always great seeing people from their studio. They just seem totally genuine and nerdy in a way no other studio really does.

Technical Art Culture of Uncharted 4
Technical Art of Uncharted 4 is a hearty reflection on the lessons learned during creation of technology that powers the current gen Art Pipeline of Naughty Dog.

Come and learn how we created our interactive foliage animation technology, cloth, hair and fur simulation, custom automated level of detail technology that allowed us to seamlessly render levels the size of our E3 demo, runtime softbody vehicle deformation, automated runtime object population solutions, tool analytics and more. All written almost exclusively within the Art Department.

But even more importantly, hear our take on what makes effective technical art, the struggles we had with adoption, why self-induced ignorance can be a creative force, why your are only as good as the best work you will ever throw away, how lack of cross departmental barriers allows you to throw more people at problems without actually having to have more people, how cross-technological communication is the next best thing after interpersonal, why nothing beats the importance of trivial tech work and how core artistic principles directly apply to creating technology.

To talk about audio and teamwork. Big woop.

They were banned because of poor insider sources. This has nothing to do with insider info.
It's a little misleading to say they will be there. The article just mentions that one of their sound engineers will be hosting an audio panel.

I wonder what Insomniac will do after Ratchet and Clank.
New IP? Reimagine the Second R&C Game (depending on how sucessfull the first one is)? Or Sequel on Sunset Overdrive

They're making an Occulus Exclusive VR game.
That's probably just a smaller group within Insomniac though.

I would love it if they ported Sunset Overdrive to Steam and thereafter maybe made a whole new Ratchet & Clank that is a sequel to the first one but an alternative timeline so we don't just end up with another "remake".

if they make another Sunset Overdrive, i hope it will be mutilplatform this time (since ms doesn't own the IP)

and yeah thats probably a small team working on the VR game

If the R&C movie is a success, coupled with decent sales for the game, then I can see them continuing the "reboot" of this franchise for at least 1 more game.

thats the catch hmmm...isn't insomniac in a postion to fund their own game? maybe with the help of a publisher?

There are very few independent AAA devs capable of self-funding their own AAA game.

Honestly the only one that comes to mind is Level-5. Notch isn't actively in game dev atm and without a studio/dev team, so he doesn't count.

They don't have to reveal any financial information to the public so we don't know but given that they signed with SCE for R&C and Oculus for Edge of Nowhere I don't see how they have let's say 40 million to fund an appropriate Sunset Overdrive sequel.

And finding a publisher that gives you that amount of money comes with lots of strings attached. I think Insomniac is cool but I don't see them as that kind of developer tier where they even get royalties from the sales. (Unlike for example Respawn because those are the people that made Modern Warfare)

Even if they did have the funds it would be foolish take a risk like that considering their games have not done well commercially recently. Would be a great way to go bankrupt.

They're probably banned for a reason though.
Never mind. They are banned but they post actually good articles not controversial shit like polygon, and they arent banned even tho I have never seen one relevant article from them. Hell we only heard about them from Twitter

Insomniac should stick to Ratchet. I don't like franchises continuing forever, but it genuinely seems to be a game where they can do anything with in the universe. They could do alt. universe and time travel, it's not as versatile as One Piece, but big enough for the team not to get bored with. I would love for them to go back to Resistance too, and make it pure horror, and both a third person and first person experience.

Sunset I'm not sure will be continued, but I hope it does.

They are one of the internet's premier clickbait sites. They're notorious for posting rumors based on trademarks, Twitter posts, and "insider" knowledge.
I always have to laugh when I see articles like "... well known industry insider XYZ said..." Hilarious.

Sorry for the double post but this might be thread worthy as according to this they previously only had 40 employees (I'm guessing that is from the time of Golden Abyss' development) so they've more than doubled their team size for this game.

90 is consider mid size in 2016. Not really thread worthy.
Still looking forward to the announcement thou.

Anyone see this video from Media Molecule?

They say at like 30 mins the strongest Dreams levels will be story based levels because things like tight platforming are difficult to code. They also make the Journey character which is cool.

Their new creatives video had a number of shots of the Dev team working in the studio, and Ofcourse, there were many blurred monitors. The interesting bit is, all the blurred screens were blue. There was a lot of blue going on. Hmmmmmmmm.

Yes, it was clear that this was happening. It's was in the making for over a year already. Studio moved to a huuuuuge office and they were on a hiring spree since then. They're huge again. Stronger and bigger than ever. Over 200 people again. Can't wait to see their game at this years E3.

Wanting some news on Sony's first party developed games atm... Been a while aside from Uncharted. Though I guess they'll probably just wait until after UC4 is released/E3 for any TLG, GT Sport and Horizon news... At least GT Sport might be mentioned at the GDC PSVR conference.
