The red hair and the purple, living witch hat reminds me of Tessa from Red Earth/Warzard

Definitely keeping an eye on this and I hope it pulls through all the way to release. I like the character designs, but I love the music, it's so good! I want more fighters, so this is most definitely welcomed.

I remember posting about this game months ago and people didn't really care. I really hope this game gets off the ground

Maybe it's because it was in the STEAM thread.

It doesn't seem like they've gotten too far with things though. Kind of worrying.

Ah, I searched very hard for any previous threads on GAF - but I guess my searches didn't scour the Steam thread. It may appear that they haven't gotten a lot done - but I have been a regular viewer of their Twitch streams which are scheduled every Wednesday (and some other day that I just became aware of) and they are definitely fastidiously working and committed to the project.

January 3rd Twitter Post: "Cerebrawl version 0.1c next week! Gameplay video with special announcement, and more! "

I'll try to add to the thread if anything compelling is released.

Also, for what it's worth - I get a strong indication that these guys know what they're doing. Although the team is tiny, each individual brings enough experience to the table that would indicate that they know how to see a project through - and on Twitch, the few team members that are available are knowledgeable and definitely guided by a realistic game development perspective. They're not dreamers - in fact, the artist was talking about Chainsaw Incident and they seem to have some practical insight on what kind of lessons there are to be learned in the 2d indie fighter space. They are aware of the difficult road that indie fighters have faced and they seem to be committed despite the challenges. I know it's all hearsay, but I get a good feeling from these guys and I see the work they put in on streams. I'm keeping my optimism in check, though - I love this genre but I understand that the road ahead is incredibly difficult. Yatagarasu made it through development and then fizzled out immediately - I'll keep my eyes open if anything important is worth posting.

Hopefully there are characters we see later on in this that appeal to me better because those in the OP look hideous to me, yikes.

Music's awesome of course though. Will keep an eye on this for that alone.

These designs are weirdly great. Love the MGS-hybrid-thing guy and the ripped witch with funny face. Animu face kinda destroys the girl's design though.

I'mean glad you made a thread about this game. I was just saying that I posted it in a previous thread that really isn't fighting game oriented.

Is this the new indie fighter that wants to be MvC2 since Skullgirls dudes are focusing on Indivisible?

Happy to see a female character that's ripped as hell. The top could use some alterations but other than that I love her!

That music is on fire though! WOW!

YOOOOO CAULDRON RAVE!!!!! WHOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA~!

I really want this game to get off the ground but in the current gaming space, indie fighting games struggle so hard. Even Skullgirls is already on it's way out so I can only hope the best for this. Gonna support this one hard.

In all seriousness, has anyone here who's followed mvc2 and 3s ever heard of "Ill Will"/does he have any record of success?

Damn y'all are right about the soundtrack, shit's dope as hell. Neat character designs and I'm interested in seeing some gameplay videos whenever they release them.

OP says is "looking good." Is there anything to actually look at outside of those few frames of battle witch?

Also they really need a straight man or woman to be the face. Showing 3 ugly characters as peoples introduction to the game probably isn't the best idea. They need a Donovan or Felicia in the mix.

Character design premise being one that allows for you to create whatever exaggerated or bizarre mix of characters you feel like drawing is something I believe in STRONGLY and I love their Imagination Bomb premise for why people are manifesting with such a crazy mix of themes and abiliites.

I also dig the stuff they're doing with tags and tourney mode stuff a lot. Really hope to hear more out of these guys. We got a lot of similar ideas here and I really hope this game takes off for them. Also I'm diggin that soundtrack. Almost got a JSRF vibe from the Battle Witch Theme.

The art is way too good. But between trying to be a Marvel 2 clone and barely nothing to show, can't get hype for much besides the music and artworks.

why there isnt more jazz/intrumental hiphop tracks in video games is beyond me. Soundtrack is nice, i like the character select theme

Yeah I had to support this. I love the character designs so far and the music is amazing. I also appreciate all the tech videos. Watching the process of making this stuff is great.

character design looks interesting, music is nice besides the menu, gameplay looks slow as fuck and more skullgirlish... also that chain of normals.... I just watched a 6+ hit chain of normals with dashing/etc.

Hit stuns also last too long.

You know, if 2D art for fighting games is so much more expensive than 3D models, how come all indie fighters are strictly 2D?

2D isn't impossible per say, but it is more difficult to work with sprites than 3D models. It is completely feasible to make a game in high resolution 2D but it isn't as economical due to it being expensive and the mass market seeing anything with 2D art as a SNES game.

Independent developers aren't bound by things making more financial sense due to them being well independent. It's the same reason why so many indie developers work on non-popular genres such as 3D platformers or metroidvanias when the mass market craves shooters and MOBAs.

Yooo! 2 Mello here, composer of the Cerebrawl soundtrack and the sound designer. Just wanted to pop in and say I read this damn thread every time I'm feeling down on myself. So glad everyone's loving the soundtrack!

My main influences are the music of the Jet Set Radio series, Street Fighter 3: Third Strike's more chilled-out bits, and the beautifully quirky classic Katamari Damacy. Man, I'd love to get hired for a game like Katamari. But how many of those are there? Other favorite soundtracks include Silent Hill 2 and Chrono Trigger.

Mainly just want to thank everyone and not plug too much, but if you're interested in getting a new prototype of the game every two weeks, trying to break it for us and have a little fun with it, we're taking donations over at the site to help get us along as we prepare to pursue funding (no crowdfunding). We are all dedicated enough at this moment in time that we are willing to make the game as slowly as we need to, in whatever time we have outside other work, even if funding doesn't come at all.

The support now may not necessarily guarantee you get a copy at release, it's more for people who wanna be part of this process and help us rip up the game and learn our flaws. We do a weekly podcast for donors, and two good Twitch streams a week for everyone, usually art-related. It's starting to feel like a real video game.

Thanks again for all the words! Eliot, our artist, also really loves it when people critique his designs! He's enjoying how divisive our character Helen has been, here and everywhere. :)
