Street Fighter V Beta IV Thread: Jan 30-31

can someone PLEASE explain something about Vega to me?

his EX walljump move where he dives down at you from above seems like completely free damage, nothing I can do against it works. I try to block or dash, I get grabbed. I try to jump or antiair I get hit by a different attack entirely. What the fuck do I do?

Back jump and meet him in the air, back dash, anti air, dash forward, predict the cross up/grab and punish him for it.

Anyone else think Vega is way more creepy now that he looks more realistic and less like an anime villain? Like now I'm imagining a 30 year old guy running around saying "Does my beauty intoxicate you?"

Who are you using? it's vulnerable to being anti-aired depending on the character. I have trouble with patient Ken/Ryu players b/c DP will stuff it, and Sim will just use high yoga fire. I'm moving away from just using it straight up and trying to combo into the forward EX version/drop because it's soooo much damage and you don't have to worry about it getting stuffed. I'm still terrible so it's just stuff like clawless s.mp>EX BD

That's how I am. I think for the people that are new or just started with SF4 or something, I cut them a little slack, but for the people who have been part of the fgc for years, we need to see the bigger picture sometimes.

I do feel like helping out beginners is the right thing to do, and taunting people who I don't know or who I am destroying is a juvenile/sophomoric thing that I avoid. Have a little class, man. Act like you've been there before.

We almost didn't get a SF4. We did, it brought in new people, and then the community became arguably more elitist (or such is the reputation, at least). Capcom couldn't even fund SFV, which as we see is not exactly feature rich, on their own. I try to remind myself to be an ambassador when possible, and show good sportsmanship regardless. The genre, and SF in particular, needs to bring in and keep new consumers. SFV: Fight for Capcom vs Capcom
Great post

I agree and edited your post for CvC's sake. We need an all Capcom fighter, baybee.
Finally hit 2k LP again and I'm going to call it a day until tomorrow. This is the 4th time I reached it, every time I reached it before I would lose the next match. With the last time I dropped all the way down to the low 1700's and had to win 6 of my last 7 to reach 2k again before I felt content to stop lol. The points is a lot harder to get than before when I coasted to 3k before I hit a brick wall.
That is evil. I already know I can't handle that, but I'm going to try and reach 1500 tonight anyway.

I'm just waiting for Dan to come along with a Taunt VSkill before I start using taunts in matches.

All 6 buttons is an awkward way to taunt, too. I usually taunt if I mash out, and whiff, an Ultra in USFIV. Or at the very start of the match if it's a gamertag I recognise.

They really ought to do something about the way the netcode behaves when people rapidly walk back and forth. It seems to really fuck up the prediction and they start teleporting very rapidly. It's kinda disorienting.

Is that what's happening? I had 2 Ryu players back to back do that. I figured it was their connection, but it was weird that I wasn't affected by any lag. I guess this explains it.

Man, who the heck is the Gief in the top 5? He's a monster!!! Oh and Karin is gonna be the first character people go to the lab with, dudes are just pressing her buttons lol. I'm gonna learn her so I can demolish the pretenders.

Bison is strong. Strong character

Not sure how I feel about this ranking up man, ever since I hit 3k whatever points I'm just getting marched with the killaz! I want some easy wins every now and then .

I will be super disappointed if the final build wont offer proper keyboard controls as in being able to remap them either through the games UI or simply through configuration files. AutoHotkey works fine most of the time but I also run into issues like keys not responding at all or keys constantly "responding" despite not being pressed. Capcom please.

Realizing that R. Mika's cr. MK is a good anti air. Her headbutt is good too, but it seems that the cr. MK is good for longer jump scenarios.

When people tell newer players to stop jumping, are they mostly referring to jumping to close the gap, or does it include going for cross-ups once you're in? Is doing the latter a bad habit to get into?

Had to use my laptop to record and the audio is fucked up at the start.

Apparently Charlie's Anti-Cross up is Standing Strong.

Nice find, will try to use it in some matches.

SFV Vega newbie here. (Played him a lot in SFIV though) Can someone tell me the purpose of ASE (qcb+p)? It appears to be a super slow start up move with crappy range. What is it for?

I have been playing Street Fighter (and SNK fighters and VF and Tekken) since Championship Edition when I worked at an arcade and used to walk to the bowling alley at 1am to meet friends and play with the crowds.

While able to enjoy myself in the arcade and hold my own, and up through the Genesis and SNES days and Alpha days on Saturn I never got into the competitive scene.
I love it, and would always try to find time but life always got in the way.
Tampa Bay has a great FGC but online man, there would be some amazing people but then you would run into those that seriously would rather piss on you than have a conversation with you and get sheer vocal joy out of bodying people who would not know a frame trap from frame rate.
It does not make trying to bring friends in easy.
It is like some are afraid of it growing and want it to be their private monkey.
But fortunately like I said there are absolutely some fantastic people.

Looks cool?

Yeah I dunno. Considering his roll combos from most everything I don't see why you wouldn't just use that.

My problem right now with R. Mika is that I can't clutch out matches. I lose so many close matches and only sometimes win those close matches; it's making me salty.

got bodied by the #1 player twice.. ended up being fourwude

when gief gets in, you better have a reversal or get ready to eat shit n die

Pretty much

People still aren't playing against Gief correctly yet though

This is not the Gief of yesteryear where if you so much as dared to miss a combo you would get SPD'd

His throw is 5 frames now. People gotta get in and pressure him, especially since Gief himself doesn't have any reversals.

But on the plus side, Gief has anti-airs besides lariat now so that's cool

What's the character ratio in the top 50 right now?

"Stop jumping" is in reference to the neutral game.

1000 points and i still need to get a lag free match. Lots of lag in my game, not fun...Hong Kong here...

I played the laggiest match ever today

It had both teleporting of rollback and the old school slowdown delay based stuttering

Somehow I still won, through the magic of crush counter > HP SPD tho

Damn you air SPDs.

Whenever I started a match I would jump and air SPD in reaction to a jump

The success rate was so good
