Street Fighter V Beta IV Thread: Jan 30-31

Hoooo boy, I can't wait to get my TE2+ and ditch this DS4.

Not to say I won't fuck up on stick, I just won't miss this damn dpad.

I just want a tiny bit of a stun or damage increase with her command grab with kicks. I've been in so many situations where it was just off by the slightest amount. I've recently gotten a little better at dealing with projectiles by getting the timing down with cr.hk just right. The character I've been having the most trouble with is Birdie, Cammy, Chun, and Karin.

Yeah which is funny because I think they upped her stun a little bit on some moves, but decreased the damage. Which is why I feel like I lose a lot of clutch matches.

I generally will get a 5 win streak and feel good about it then keep playing and go on a 3-4 lose streak and lose all the LP I just earned. Feels bad man.

Oh my god I finally broke that 2K LP wall with Bison, I've been hovering in between 1500-1700 all day and its been extremely frustrating. Never cared for Bison in IV but the changes they've made to him in V have made him an absolute rush down monster, though I think a lot of it is people's unfamiliarity with the matchup. I get away with some horribly unsafe things that will probably stop being as effective after everyone's settled down and gotten used to things.

It's really unsafe on block so yeah, a lot of things Gief has will just outright kill it after a blocked one.

You play a really defensive/down-back Bison. Not necessarily a bad thing but basically the antithesis of how I run mine. I find myself relying more on forward dashes until I'm in stMK / stMP range and going from there. My strategy from the outset is to discourage people to press buttons after stMP by linking into crMP for frame trap shenanigans, once I've conditioned them that far I can comfortably do the stMP -> Axe target combo or stMP -> Dash Grab/stHK or stMP -> Whatever -> Headstomp into instant devil's reverse to try to fish for more damage. So I guess my advice would be to find ways to continue the momentum when it's on your side, you seemed to like to default back to the down-back style rather than pressing your advantage and I don't see there being that much benefit to a Bison that does that as Scissors or Headstomp alone aren't stellar neutral devices.

Edit : If you want examples of how I run my Bison just look me up on the Capcom Network, I'll be under DiscoShark

I'm an ex Honda player so down back is what I'm used to. In that video I'm being even more careful than usual because I'm not used to fighting Vega and I started to panic a little. I'm actually trying my best to get more aggressive, and there's soooo few good Bison videos out there I think I will look up your replays.

also regarding that 'target combo', it's too bad it doesn't actually seem to...combo.

I was on a 9 streak earlier and I've been losing every match since. But I'm feeling good about this run. I've got a 2 win streak right now.

It doesn't even exist anymore. The beta 3 version of Psycho Axe that came out in that TC was straight worse than the normal one anyway. Psycho Axe is ridiculously good on its own though.

I just want her to have a V skill that's on par with the other characters. :-\

Had a rough time playing tonight. Maybe I'm just tired because my punishes were off point and my reactions were just sloppy. I did better yesterday though. Trying not to get discouraged.

I just buffer it and jump pre-emptively if I think someone is jumping

If I see you jumped with me i press the buttons.

EX SPD is utterly ridiculous though, almost no height restriction from what I can tell so it's easy to tiger knee it like Mupod said.

Once I messed up and did an EX Grounded SPD too early, but the other guy happened to jump and I caught him like inches off the ground.

Do you mean that you jump, then input the 270 motion, or are you using the 270 motion to jump, similar to how you could do C.Vipers hyperjump in SF4?

I think Sim is so good because of all the projectile counters characters have
So Capcom made a character that fuxks with that.

Basically, Capcom made Sim's role to be the opposite in SFIV where he was fucked with the Focus Attack mechanics.

My night is now get to ragequitters > switch characters > lose 500 LP > build LP back up > back to ragequitters.

FOR A BETA

Fatigue/burnout happens, get some rest and let your head defrag all this new swirling data.

Why is Dhalsim so good? How the hell are you supposed to block his fireball teleport setups?

You block whichever way puts you in block stun, which is usually gonna be the other side of the fireball. I haven't had too much trouble with Sims yet. I've had some good matches, but Sim on wakeup is always easy. Just gotta get that knockdown. If your defense is hurting, go on offense.

Chun on the other hand, every match is like I'm facing 3S Chun. Sweating bullets brehs.

It does combo on counter-hit, and of all the counter-hit non-crush counter combos you can land this one does some really beefy damage. MP (counterhit) -> Axe -> crMP -> Inferno for the knockdown.

Don't discount the thing because it doesn't combo normally though. Most non-light normals aren't fast enough to stuff the gap between cMP and Axe on block and Axe crush counters so you can feel free to go to town if they dared to press anything meatier. Axe also moves you forward (a very useful trait given Bison's slow walk speed) and leaves you at an advantage on block allowing you to continue pressure. st.LK after a blocked Axe will stuff any non-invincible reversal and, on counterhit, will combo into cMP. It's a damn good tool that I discovered way too late, that's what I get for not looking at the movelist after the first 5 minutes.

I'm so out of practice with Street fighter, that the game feels foreign to me now, but I guess I can't do training mode to get used to it without it auto match making huh? I turn off matchmaking, then enter training then it says searching for opponent. I get that its beta and they want the servers tested, but I'd rather not get my ass kicked over and over. Any way to practice without getting interrupted every 2 minutes?

Record with the P2 Dummy.

This is it! The clutchest match I've had so far in all Beta phases. Watch till the end!
Nash vs Mika

I'm Nash.

Nice Nash and I lol'd @ the ending. Small critique, I would recommend using your v-reversal and/or trigger more often though. You saved it multiple times and didn't end up using it at all when it coulda been a game changer.

I've gotten to where I try and use my V-Trigger almost instantly when I get it. Often times you'll get 2 in a match. And yeah a lot of times it gives you a free hit.

Also small tip with Nash, you can v-reversal projectiles from across the screen which will teleport you behind opponent for a free combo. Catches most people off-guard. I've never seen any other Nash do this

Ah yeah, I know it's a tool but I can't seem to pull it off quickly on pad, that's why I'm not bothering for now. I've tried before but I would eat a poke since my reversal wouldn't come out :/ But it's just as you say, it's definitely something I need to look into as it'll expand my game plan.

I haven't seen a single Dhalsim yet. Weird.

Same here.

Someone was saying eariler that the Karin army had decreased, but I think I faced more Karins than Ryus yesterday. Looking forward to going home and playing so more and even more forward to the release.

Whoa really? Nash's V-reversal is a teleport? I haven't messed with the V-reversal system at all. That sounds awesome, and maybe potentially better than his standard V-Trigger if practiced. Exciting stuff for the lab on the 16th...

Gief's fwd MK is a pretty neat button

You can use it sort of like Guile's sobat. Besides moving you forward into the sweet spot for SPDs it blows up lows from a far range (but not close up) from what I can tell and hangs out there forever so you can use it for traps.

Things like cr. lp x 3 into fwd MK can counterhit the reversal jabs that come out after people expect spds and get you the last bit of health on the bar of a tenacious opponent

Overall today I've just mostly been focusing on anti-airs and getting spd out in the critical moments. People have to respect Gief a lot more when they realize they can't jump on him from any range they want to, which means I can more SPDs :D

Seeing GAF players in the hundreds makes me sad D:

Bruhhh teach me your ways!! I'm sitting here hovering around 900-1000~ lp with my mediocre Ryu and lame Chun.

What is the name of the move Birdie does that's a dive and can ex? This guy did it to me multiple times and I'm trying to do it in training mode to record so I can learn to punish it.

Speaking of recording, the UI in this awful compared to SFIV. In SFIV to record all you do is go to start, training options, record and if you want to reset the recording and do a different one all you needed to do is press start and the unpause of and the recording will start over. In SFV beta if the recording isn't to your liking you need to go back to the menu, and then it defaults to the last menu you were at. Unpausing it doesn't just let you re-record like in SFIV, and instead you have to the record slot and confirm it again. Problem is that some times I end up in the corner and I want to test it in the center of the grid. If the recording is done and I'm in the corner, I have to go through all of these menus to reset the training room.

Just really clumsy.
