Street Fighter V Beta IV Thread: Jan 30-31

Why did they nerf Karin AA.

I watched the KI Season 3 changes and wonder if SFV gets the same treatment. In three years we could look at back and laugh how crazy stupid Chun Li's normals are.

Her b.HP isnt that strong, that was a bad sim that made it look way better than it actually is.

It's going to be a long two weeks. Already wish the game was out now.

Having said that, Dhalsim is a ton of fun. Barrier of entry is relatively high compared to others because of how his grounded normals aren't as snappy as they used to be (which was already known from the get-go) to the point where screwing up once can lead into a very unfavourable situation, but once you adjust he's so... slippery. You can be quite shrewd with his new moveset and I'm no longer worried about his ability to zone people out, fireballs included. Also helps that his pressure game is fairly legit now thanks to all the white health he can accrue on blocked attacks, plus his combo damage is respectable enough. Ample usage of his V-Reversal to shake off rushdown characters also netted me a lot of wins; called it a night after reaching 2500 LP (having gained approximately 800 that day) and his V-Trigger was better served as a situational tool with how I played him anyways... which was admittedly amateuristic. People did struggle with the distance game because of it however, but I'm guessing there was a low number of Dhalsims to practice against in the beta anyways.

Still say his yoga beard should've been on yoga fire for extra intimidation factor. And here's two matches against some European tourney players:

vs will2pac (Nash)
vs Phen0m (Necalli)

so is there still PS3 stick support for PC? Thats the only thing stopping me from playing this game.

Technically there's support for any stick so long as you have the drivers for it. For PS3/PS4 sticks it's a bit of an issue getting SFV to recognize your stick, but as long as you use x360ce or some other mapping program then you'll be good.

I have a PS3 MadCatz TE Round 2 from 2009, and it works on PC using JoyToKey to map the buttons to the keyboard. Without some 3rd party program, SFV doesn't recognize it at all. It works on USF4 without JoyToKey.

Heard rumor that the games is going to come out early on the 12th. Fingers crossed.
Praise the fiend of combos! It would even be amazing if they launched 1 day early since a lot of people in US have that day off (President's Day). That said I'm not getting my hopes up.

FWIW I had to use xpadder to get my hitbox to work.

thanks, hopefully it works and so I can get to try out the beta now

Put in a Steam refund request last night.

Woke up to see it was denied with the reason being that I'd gifted the beta keys from my inventory.

Will try again ~Feb 11 (hopefully the beta will be delisted by then). Having played the beta(s), I realize I no longer have the time or motivation to learn a new fighting game.

Good points, and nice match videos. You're really gotta commit when you're pressing buttons on the ground now. I was struggling to find the right moments to use st.HP. I was still in SF4 mode in the early goings, thinking it would snap out fast. Jump-ins off mis-timed normal hurts. A lot.

What's Sim's best option for cross-ups / close jump-ins? B+MP doesn't work, and if you're late on an escape slide, you end up positioning yourself close to the opponent.

That would be nice!

I really wish they'd move game release days to Friday in general. Makes for a nice end of the work week to be able to look forward to picking up the game on the way home and being able to play late into the night day one, vs. getting a little time in Tuesday-Thursday nights before really diving in on the weekend.

I've seen Arturo and FChamp use Dhalsim's standing jab a lot for that purpose, I believe. I'm not comfortable using it myself yet since I'm not accustomed to the timing and general priorities, but it's a solid anti-air because of how quickly it comes out and it appears to cover some space directly over his head.

You definitely have to throw out st. FP more sporadically this time around, I agree. Dhalsim's st. MP and MK already fill that niche of pushing people back with relative safety, whereas the FP now serves more situational purposes. Like a high-low mix-up after a successful anti-air (at certain distances), reading / reacting to a thrown fireball, interrupting the enemy's attempts to stuff your quicker limbs from afar, that kind of thing.

I played mostly Ken in the previous betas and i went to Nash for this one. It was quite a difference, Nash feels a lot stronger and more fun for me.
Not having to watch Ken's ugly face and bananas in the screen before the match is a nice bonus.
Still not sure how i feel overall about the game but playing Nash made my experience better for now.

Netcode was excellent for me, one weird thing was that in one of the very few laggy matches i had the other player played like there was no rollback/teleports at all, he would antiair, hit confirm etc and all i would see was constant teleports and i heard similar stories from other people.

Very nice vids, thanks. Made me realize I need to keep gauge for the V-reversal, it can really be a lifesaver in some situations. The wiil2pac match was so close I yelled a bit at the end lol.

Very satisfied with how Sim turned out in V, the wait for the game will be long.

My PS3 Mad Catz TE Round 1 doesn't work at all in Windows 10, though it did work in Windows 7. From what I've understood it's because the stick uses some kind proprietary USB 1.0 protocol that Windows 10 no longer supports. Apparently newer TEs don't have the same issue.

Cross post from the FGW thread, if you're interested in using Laura there's some good (some ugly) matches in here.

Count (Laura) vs Secode (Bison) x2
Count (Laura) vs AGNativeImpact (Mika) <- I somehow blocked that V-Trigger setup I think?
vs Li Joe (Nash) <- step back mp ~ super made me shout out FOOTSIES
vs Alex Valle (Laura)
vs Justin Wong (Karin) <- the baits
vs Tampa Bison (Bison)
vs Nerd Josh (Rashid) <- Rashid's dumb
vs Conrizzle (Rashid) <- ^
vs Tsumuji (Karin) x2 <- Karin's buttons too good
Compilation of ranked matches
2nd comp of ranked matches

I had a lot of fun with Laura over the beta. Overall I did a lot better against Chun compared to last beta when it was pretty much an automatic L. The character I did worst against this beta was probably Ken. Character I played against the most was definitely Karin. It felt like every other match was a different Karin player lol. The matchup feels like whoever is pressuring the other has the advantage but Karin at least has an invincible reversal and much better buttons. Necalli is pretty scary too, pressing buttons when he's close never feels like a good idea. His LK/MK stomps are slightly negative but not enough for a solid punish because of the push back. St.HK has probably crush countered more times than I could count this beta lmao. It's punishable on block too but again, the push back is real.

The amount of mileage I got off of wakeup cr.HP was stupid. Idk if it was just people mistiming their buttons but I must've won 15+ matches off of wakeup cr.HP -> V-Trigger etc lol
I've also been crush countered many times for trying lmao

My least favorite MU's for Laura right now are - Chun/Vega/Ken/Bison. I wouldn't say she necessarily loses the matches, I just don't feel comfortable playing against those characters.

Karin is truly everyone's Bae. I swear there were hours when I felt like she appeared more often than Ryu. I have no clue where all that Necalli action comes from, though.

Ryu
Karin
Ken
Laura
Mika=Bison
Everyone else
disconnects
Zangief
Rashid
Dhalsim
Vega

My encounter rate was something like that.

I saw many times more Bisons this beta than all the others combined. What happened. Also Bison mirrors are HORRIBLE.

Didn't see a single Chun Li whereas she was represented well before. One Dhalsim and a decent spread of the other characters. Lots of Zangiefs started showing up above 1000 LP so that chart is surprising.
