Street Fighter V Beta IV Thread: Jan 30-31

I don't miss proximity normals AT ALL.

Previous games have all sorts of unnecessary, worthless moves that no one ever uses. Get rid of them, and make the remaining moves all have a purpose.

SF5 has it right.

Word. Not sad to see weird situational anti airs and combos that hinge on a move that won't connect right on half the cast gone. Bye.

I couldn't wait to play Gief again when I came home today

But then I remembered

yup, me too

Man... so many people sleeping on Birdie and Gief... which actually kind of makes me glad- they're hella scary to face when someone knows what they're doing

While I'm happy as fuck proximity normals are gone, it seems like capcom forgot to replace a lot of good anti cross up/high angled buttons (like Abel's close standing fierce) that they usually put on close up buttons.

I think this is intentional as well -- it seems like a lot of characters have problems stuffing cross-ups in general, which is just going to encourage people going more ham with the jumps if they have imitative. Especially since it seems like a lot of medium and heavy attacks have SF4-esque recovery, which means that if you try to counter-poke after your opponent loses initiative and they jump back in, that's pretty much a free cross-up attempt against most of the cast.

And proximity normals are trash and I'm glad they're gone. There may be too few command normals, but you also don't want to have an overload of them and start having more command normals than BlazBlue.

I agree that we need more command normals. Vega also lost some options because his excellent s.mk poke is gone as s.mk is more similar to his old close s.mk. I think s.mk is great in SFV right now, but I liked having more options in SF4. The lack of df.hk and its uniqueness is gone too.

I'm genuinely surprised they don't have more just because of this. Grapplers, even if you aren't very good, are usually noob stompers. Just churn that butter.

The data was taken only from the "top" players on the leaderboards for those days... obviously the higher rank you go- the less they can "noob stomp".

I hate playing against Ken so so much.

For me at least, Ryu is far worse. I can't stand playing against Ryus, even the crappy ones.

Even mediocre Ryus give me the hardest of times, but Kens I can deal with. I just find it easier to punish their shennanigans.

Gonna grind out Rashid and make him shine when my Collectors Edition comes in. Have Nash in my back pocket.

I think he's pretty underrated. I did pretty well with him and I am still complete noob at SF. Pretty sure I had about a 50% win-rate with him. Granted, I was playing against lower levels and a lot of my wins came from people just not knowing how to deal with him from lack of experience, but still, using him this beta, it was the best I've ever done compared to previous betas and especially Ultra.

Speaking of Rashid, there are a couple of things I'm surprised people don't do. H. Wirlwind -> Rolling Assault is a great tool for mixups and rushdowns, yet no one I watched on Twitch or Youtube ever uses it. It's a good way to bait your opponent into blocking and then you simply grab them. Works so much for me. Same with V-Skill (Altiar? the flip jump) -> Wall Jump (-> (EX usually) Eagle Strike -> H. Spinning Mixer or target combo instead) (when opponent is in/close to corner). It throws people off all the time.

I wonder how much will be changed on release. Did Capcom say how often they will patch the game or make balance changes once released?

Cammy is great imo, go nuts.

It'll crash back down to Earth when people realize he needs a lot of work to be good with.

Squigly is about as far as I go.

I couldn't play any of the betas fullscreen without crashing 15 minutes later. Makes me wonder if this will happen after release.

It will be open season on shotos come release.

She is great. Right now people are just hyperactive with her, Chun Li and Ken. Mashed jabs, cannon spikes and dragon punches all day.

Ken players were by far the most annoying bunch of the beta for me. Nothing but jab fighter V and dragon punches all over the place. I probably won more than I lost against him, but he's definitely more annoying than scary.

Looking at that chart makes me realize that Cammy was probably my least encountered female of the whole group. The women are still far more popular overall. I probably saw more of her in two hours of play than I did of Zangief, Vega, Sim and Rashid combined all day.

Cammy was fun to use. I didn't even use anyone else for the 2 hours I played.

Oh good, thanks for the replies guys!

I dusted off my old copy of Super Street Fighter IV and played Cammy for a couple hours tonight and really enjoy her.

I cannot wait to get my butt kicked in SFV soon lol

Can anyone offer any general impressions/thoughts on Cammy if they have any?
I've mained Cammy since Sf4 launched, so I ofc played her all throughout the beta. Honestly she feels pretty nerfed in SFV compared to USFIV, but I think that is mostly because of the core gameplay changes from IV to V. She doesn't have as wide a moveset and I found her V-Reversal to be mid-tier as far as usefulness. The command Spin Knuckle was appreciated but that is traded off for not having an EX version. Her moveset is definitely the most sparse of the new roster, I'm going to continue using her but I am definitely praying for rebalance tweaks for her.

I was feeling to same way and wanted to know if it was just me. I'm not sure if I'll commit to her yet but I guess time will tell.

Right, I knew about those, which is bs, but also the jumping neutrals have the same animation as jumping forward/back. I know they say they want the game to be more accessible, but that's taking away part of what makes SF

There are still some attacks that have n.air versions. Nash and Chun's hk for example. There's probably more too but I gotta mess around with it more.

No proximity normals took me a while to get used to, but I love the change. With the neutral air normals it seems like they've kept/added the ones that will actually be useful so it's fine. I pretty much always just depended on 1 or 2 n.air normals in IV so streamlining the others makes sense.

For a total junior to SF I'd suppose someone like Ryu would be good to learn first but beyond I'd imagine it's best to pick a character you like the look of and just go for it..because unless I get amazeballs and go pro I'm not going to be THAT good or competing at that level :P

Kinda like the look of Chun-Li, Rashid or Bison...

Think I've found a way to actually upload stuff that isn't 300 mb per match. Maybe get some actual match vids out sooooooon. Was real dedicated to hitting my share button on day 1, but forgot for a lot of day 2 unfortunately.

Still got a bunch of good matches hopefully soon.

Guys, I still don't know which version to buy in Europe...

Here, you can preorder the regular game (69€) or the Special edition (89€). In the latter's description it says you get Chun Li's special outfit.

Can you earn bearded Ryu and Chun in a dress through the ingame fight money? This is so confusing.

For a junior the best option is try all the cast and gravitate those you enjoy most. This will help a lot in understanding the game and also will provide useful matchup info.

Edit: I recorded some gameplay from this weekend. Mind, I'm no more than an average player. This is the first time I was using Ryu in any beta and hadn't checked any combo or BnB videos prior to start playing (or after, that's it). So everything that you see is myself understanding the game. These videos (there're more to come) are displayed in chronological order, so you can see my evolution. I couldn't play that much, so don't expect any big leap and wait a lot of combo drops and missed opportunities for bigger damage and stuff like that. That said, I hugely enjoyed my time with the beta.

Where did you found the special edition? I'm still looking for the steelbook edition on Amazon but nothing...

You should get the Chun Li outfit from both preorders since it is the PSN preorder right? Don't have any idea where you can get the Hot Ryu costume. Only ones I've seen aside from the Chun Li are Bison and Cammy preoder bonuses.

So now that they've confirmed that the PC version won't have Direct Input support at launch- https://twitter.com/MadCatz/status/694215961491013632

Honestly, it's good that Mad Catz is saying "we're working on it!" but even Hori sticks that work in Street 4 don't work in the Street 5 beta after three attempts. I'm not holding my breath on them working on launch. And it's shameful Microsoft hasn't released a driver update for arcade sticks to work on Windows 10 because Killer Instinct isn't out yet. This means there's gonna be at least a month wait for people hoping their sticks will work on PC versions of fighters due to Killer Instinct.

Shit, I hadn't even really consciously noticed this and am now bummed out about it!

(Yes, I was one of those few that missed proximity normals because I like seeing more animations and moves instead of less generally - same with jumping neutrals. I do agree that making them come out on command would be an improvement though.)

Some matches from me, all Chun v other characters.

vs Birdie 1
vs Birdie 2
Thoughts on the current Birdie / Chun matchup: She kills him? I didn't lose to a Birdie all weekend.

vs JiBbo's Laura (2 matches)

vs Dang's R.Mika (2 matches)

vs Tampa Bison's... Bison

Nice Chun. Those instant air lightning kicks are calling to me, even though Chun isn't usually my style.

I saw they got you into trouble sometime when they didn't come out though (but in one case, you probably would've eaten a wakeup super if it came out).

It's certainly a work in progress still, I'm using a Dualshock 4 analog stick to play because I won't be able to buy a ps4 stick any time soon.

I'm just glad I didn't get cold feet on using it vs good players. Usually I'd try harder to win instead of experimenting with the matchup and seeing what I can reasonably get away with within the realms of human reaction. The answer is that it's actually quite hard to react to.

The Special edition is a Digital download on PSN. Lots of retailers in my country (Portugal) have preorders for the physical steelbook edition.

Yeah, I realize that now. The only difference in the Special ed. is that it contains the Season Pass, which unlocks the 6 additional characters without the need of Zenys and unlocks a premium costume for each of them.
But Hot Ryu is still missing in Europe...

Man your Chun is a thing of beauty. I've recently converted to a stick and I can't for the life of me pull those low mid air lightning kicks. Just gotta keep practicing I guess.

Great vids! Thanks for sharing!
