Firewatch launching on February 9, 2016 [PS4 | PC]

That's someone who has never played it making an assumption based on the engine, I'd say for the most part it's *very* smooth though nothing is perfect.

There are a ton of reasons why games framerates are imperfect and a ton of specific reasons why that might be more or less likely with one engine over another, kind of too broad a topic to get in to here really. I'll be surprised if performance isn't good and consistent on Firewatch though since it seems like they can really control the scope of what's displayed on screen and there appears to be no heavy dynamics/gameplay stuff going on. That PSX footage was from a few months ago now too.

Quite looking forward to this game and will buy at whatever price they think it's worth.

Thanks for clarifying! Really sorry didn't mean to spread any fud, all that just carried into the previous conversation. Also, I see you are the dev behind AAC?
Hope that wins vote to play in March, it looks lots of fun :D

Ok, watched a few videos - really hyped.

What do we know about the story?

Is this some sort of mystery?

Definitely a mystery though Campo Santo have been extremely tight lipped about the story.

All I know is that
the main character Henry has gone through a nasty divorce and sets out to Wyoming for a change in his life, before a lot of weird shit starts happening out there.

Personally I think there's going to be some nice twists involved.

The E3 trailer showed that someone was in your tower while you are out exploring (must be near the beginning of the game) so I would imagine part of this game is finding out who or what did that.
If I remember correctly the reason the character took a job in the wilderness was because he had just gotten divorced and wanted to move away.
The only form of communication you have is with your supervisor and you have some different options in how to respond to her.

Nice, that´s exactly what I´m looking for.

Heard on the PlayStation Blogcast that there will be a dynamic Firewatch PS4 theme by Ollie Moss. I bet it's beautiful. The time of day supposedly changes to reflect your real clock.

Well my TV is already surrounded by Ollie moss prints, might as well do that shit up too

This game looks tense, but also super relaxing... I like the vibe it puts off.

I kind of want it to be a bit of a hiking simulator and not much else (I think I'm getting old)... haha.

They mentioned the Firewatch theme was sort of inspired by the Transistor theme. So maybe we can look at that to figure out what to expect.

Likewise. Forgot this game was coming out but really interested in it.
Honestly I am trying more and more to ignore the preview cycle so that I can be surprised when something like this pops up.

I am genuinely interested in what this game really is and we get to find out in a week. I am hopeful it is something cool becuae I've been itching to try something new.

There's a serious obsession with what indie games cost these days that I don't remember seeing nearly as much in the past.

Is it because, with indie devs maturing and becoming way more ambitious, they're finally filling that B-tier that was abandoned by AAA...but fans don't want to accept that? Like, they can't fathom paying $20 for something not from EA, no matter how ambitious it is?

I'll pay $40 for Firewatch easily, if it comes to that. I want to support these guys and their beautiful game.

I've actually always dreamt of living/working alone in the woods in a fire watch tower. This is the closest I'll ever get to that, since it's not really a thing any more.

For me it has to do with Content. For example I bought The Witness for $40 and so far have 50 hours, that is well worth it. Firewatch appears to be shorter (going by what has been said) so if it is only 6-8 hours I will be more cautious to spend $40 on it, but I still may. This goes for AAA titles as well. I wouldnt pay $40 for Ryse or The Order either.

I'd much rather go by the quality of the content than just the number of hours it contains. I wouldn't pay $40 for Ryse or The Order either, but that's because they're mediocre games, not because they're short.

Portal 1 and 2 (for example) were short titles but worth their full prices easily.

I'm holding off on at least 2 other games this month so I can pick up Firewatch next week. So excited.

I'm assuming $20-30, which I'll happily pay, and if a PS+ discount and a dynamic theme is involved then I'll be even happier.

True true, but at $20 this would be an instabuy, at $40 I would wait for reviews and watch a few quick looks.

Physical release?

There's never been one planned. Pretty sure they reiterated that today on Twitter even. Not surprised but still a bummer since I know it's going to be a game that a few of my friends would likely be interested in but wouldn't buy themselves, so I'd loan it to them.

That sounds great. May even dethrone Corn Love.

It shows $19.99 to pre-purchase on Steam for me. Sounds good!

This is a good price point. Day one for me!

Actually it looks like $18 if you pre-order (10% off). I would guess something similar is going to happen with PSN since they have a history of doing pre-order discounts like that (pretty sure I got Axiom Verge last year for $18...)

Gah there are too many games coming out right now that I want to play. I really want Firewatch, but X-COM 2 is gonna get my gaming time first.

£14.99 in the UK on Steam with 10% pre-order discount bringing it to £13.49.

I'll be picking it up on PS4 but this is a very fair price point.

Those Steam prices are encouraging. I'm bummed that more devs or publishers don't think to offer bundle packages with OSTs on consoles. I know it's a tad more unwieldy to stick a USB drive in and copy the music to a more flexible space, but it would still be a nice option to have.

Don't say anything you can't take back.

haha CL is my PS3's perma-theme and has been on my PS4 since its release. Sexy time jazz corn ain't going anywhere. Transistor's theme had been the reigning champ. I look forward to a new challenger :)

Yay! Buying right now :D

Does it have a platinum on PS4?

... :\

Doing an OST on PS4 is a little bit weird (they dont have a music store anymore on that system I believe?) so we opted to do a Game + PS4 Theme bundle instead. The theme is really nice! (We'll have more on the theme later this week, I think.)

The PSX demo was that good.

Yeah, I only got a few minutes with it myself at PSX, but I agree. The black-on-yellow Firewatch tee looks good on my girlfriend as well :)

Huh. Yeah I guess if there isn't a store directly built in that you could point people to that wanted to purchase the OST directly, that'd be weird. Still looking forward to the OST regardless!
