Bryan Danielson is the first guy I felt like I have followed from damn near the start of his career to the end. That era of indie wrestling was something real special.
Its a real bummer but he had the highest highs you can possible get as a pro wrestler. And in the end its better to leave the dance early then stay too long.
I hope he finds something rad to do next. Personally I cant see him working for WWE as a trainer or a on TV person. For a guy who clearly just loves wrestling this is probably real hearth breaking for him and for his own good he will probably want a clean break from being inside a wrestling ring.
Dave Meltzer brought-up several times on his podcast today, if you give the test that convinced Bryan to retire to every guy on the roster, the results would be frightening. One e-mailer even mentioned that it's pretty crazy how Bubba Ray Dudley has said he has over a dozen concussions yet the WWE allows him to go out and have matches. I'm glad Bryan is getting out, hopefully before too much damage was sustained, but the concussion issue is just getting started with wrestling
Yup. That is the bigger issue. So many guys on the roster you look at and wonder.....
Concussions are their own thing that can just happen in any contract sport or super athletic thing but in general there really needs to be a giant shift in how WWE treats its performers for the sake of their long term health. People are working for years without extended breaks and will only be able to take time off when they physically are unable to wrestle and need to heal. Thats messed up.
Maybe people rotate house shows so they do a month on the road and a month off only doing TV. Maybe you just have more regular R&R periods so people can take a few weeks off per year.
Things are better then they where back in the day but its obvious in the last few years they have been letting more things fly that where once outlaws post Benoit.
