Canadian Gaming "Deals" and Discussion Thread 6: Sorry, We Can't Afford a New Thread

The two agents I spoke to were both reluctant to apply the 30% off on my item switch to begin with, even though I ordered with the 30% off promotion. The first one said she couldn't, the second guy said they're not allowed to but he'll make an exception since I purchase quite a bit from Amazon. You can try your luck I guess.

hmm, success! It's weird though, they didn't discount the FF7 remaster but I didn't want to push my luck haha.

Damn, might have to start going digital if the prices are going to be cheaper.

Grand Kingdom is a game I want, but 96 dollars with tax?! The prices are going to start pushing me away from games I have a passing interest in. I'll only start buying games I know I want to play immediately.

Missed a delivery from Canada Post. Website says refer to your missed delivery slip for details on where to pick up your package

Mailman left no slip

What's my next step, friends? Just show up to the usual post office with some ID?

I sent something through Canada Post the other day. I was going to go with the cheapest, $8-something option, but the postal worker told me that there were no guarantees and that it could take up to two weeks.

I'd gone that route before without issue, but decided not to risk it because I needed the game to get to someone in good time. So, I went with the next option, which he recommended. Up to six days, $100 insurance, tracking and an option for a signature (more money) for about $16.50 or so.

Of course, now that it's sent, Canada Post's website says that it's going to take longer than that, and when we called, they said it may have been sent to another part of Canada by mistake. It's supposed to go to the US.

Just take your tracking info to the local post office. It's probably there.

Happens to me a lot.

Yup. If he didn't leave a slip right away, he probably filled it out in the car or something and it will be mailed to you.

Either way, if you're confident about which post office they generally leave your shit, just go there the next business day (not the same day, it might not be processed yet) with some ID.

Sometimes the slip is passed to normal mail delivery, therefore you get it the next day. Follow the tracking information to know when it is available and where it is available for pick-up. There, you can say: "I expected a delivery and did not get a slip". They can look up using your address, so bring an ID with your address on it.

This happens all the time for me, the post office clerk calls me by my name nowadays.

Get a small business canada post card, it is free and allows you to have the Expedited option for the same price as the cheapest option. See: https://www.canadapost.ca/web/en/pages/buserv/default.page?ecid=murl|pdn|jb|36

Is it realistic for a package shipped economy from Japan to take about a month to deliver? Thanks.

Yeah, I recently had a videogame from amiami take about five weeks to arrive. Apparently that isn't unusual, so I wouldn't worry too much.

Yeah. I always order from amiami and I use their cheapest shipping option (unregistered sal) if available. It usually take 2-3 weeks to get here. I dont have to worry paying fees too.

Calgary-GAF: Gear VR for $75 at the Bell Store in Pacific Place Mall. Call ahead to see if they have stock - 403-235-2258

I picked one up on Monday and he still had a few in stock.

Really? How come?

I've never seen an actual explanation for why, but the belief is that SAL packages end up with bulk mail, so they're less likely to be flagged for customs & duties. If you go with EMS it ends up with courier packages and you're likely to have to pay.

Edit: Of course it's anecdotal at best. Some people have been hit with taxes/duties on both SAL and EMS equally.

So now that they're publishing that Harry Potter sequel thing in book form I have to ask, what's the best way (if any) to pre-order books? Amazon? I had an unfortunate experience with Chapters Indigo but I assume I would be able to at least pick it up day 1 from a physical store.

Indigo doesn't ship till it's actually released, not sure about Amazon. Safest bet is to reserve a copy in store, cause those things are guaranteed to fly off the shelf.

Nooo.

edit - not that I would have been able to buy it anyway if it was in stock - Best Buy's site would have no doubt added extra, old items to my cart and then cleared Fire Emblem from my cart and then given me an error on my first attempt to buy it and by that point it would have been out of stock anyway.

wtf, why did I choose to do work instead of checking this thread for Fates SE?

Well, guess I'm screwed till Amazon decides to put it up for like 2 seconds.

Is the rotisserie chicken really that good? I've yet to try it

It's probably the best grocery store rotisserie you can buy, although that's a bit of a low bar.

I find Costco's to be hit or miss. I don't know if they just brine it or it's injected with saline, but while the end result is juicy it's also borderline mushy at times. Maybe someone just goes overboard some days.

Fuck, I missed the FE SE. Been checking multiple times a day, but an 8 minute window is just too easy to miss. Just gotta be lucky, I suppose.

Sucks, because I have no interest in this game if I don't get the SE.

I think this will be actually limited and highly sought after. It's got a bigger user base than Xenoblade, isn't outrageously priced, and is the only way to get all 3 games on one cart.

Oh, I don't expect it to stick around for long when it goes up. I know it's highly sought after but as they start seeing their cancelled orders and warehouse numbers we will see them putting a few up at a time. They will disappear like lightning though.

I don't think the XB:CE was too hard to get, unlike this one. I accidently ordered three of those, one arrived smashed from Amazon and was returned, and two from BB, which I returned one of.

These Nintendo CEs/LEs are ridiculously hard to get most of the time lately, grabbing the Ganondorf SE for Windwaker meant that I had to get the SKU and go to two different EBGames to pre-order. Grabbing the Skull Kid LE for myself and my brother took lots of time watching my screen for the exact minute it came out.

I'd rather have Nintendo LEs/CEs to be more available personally, but there are quite a number of people who want the CE to be limited

I have two Fire Emblem Fates SE ordered, one from BB and one from EBGames, but the EBGames one is in limbo because I think I put it on an expired credit card. If I can get it sorted I will raffle it for Canadians

Is it suppose to be $170? lol

Unfortunately, yes. I was lucky enough to get in on that Amazon price mistake at launch.

IMO, it's a really good controller, but the one really useful thing about it (the rear paddles) I can't use due to the way I grip the controller. It's really solid and feels "premium", if that makes any sense.

The only thing I know is that I would "never" pay 170$ for a fucking controller...

Dat TE2+ though? Its more than 170$!

How long have you been using it? I felt like I would never used to the rear paddles but after ~10-15 hours of playing with them, I love them, but when playing halo 5 I would always accidentally hit them and reload mid shooting, randomly jump, etc.
