Street Fighter V Roster Discussion |Thread 2| Deal with it & place your hope for DLC

id like to know about stage finishers, please dont tell me its like BF4 and Siege of Shanghai levelalution building just for a E3 map to be shown off first

My local mom and pop probably gets this tomorrow or Friday. Can I get a Hell Yeah!

No, because the hate I'll have for you getting it early will be stone cold.

He's probably going to look like this, since this design differs from 3s and that's probably for a reason:

It's the Pop Culture Shock figure from a time we now know SFV was already in a planning phase.
Those 3S figures look pretty boss.
i'm really excited for the Alex reveal, especially with how Cacpcom will do it based on past history

1) 2 minute video that shows maybe half the skillset
2) Blog post that only details v-skill, reversal and super
3) Nothing happens for a month and they won't give us a movelist
4) Random video of two 8 year olds playing Alex at some tournament in France
5) Find their British accountant, put together an awful clip of the character, have British accountant read the script and tell us some useless strategy. Video will be 2 minutes long and only 45 seconds of actual content.
lol

I won't even be disappointed. At least we won't get a surprise Vega, Dhalsim or Zangief reveal in his place. The slow realization that 3S got knocked into the DLC category was the worst.
Can someone please explain to me the hype behind Alex? Is there something mechanically about him that makes him superior to other grapplers? Honest question :)
He is very much a mobile fortress with high stun value, big health, great non-grab specials and great normals. He has cr.HP, f.HP, f.MP, st.MP and Air Knee Smash for AA purposes. Unfortunately his AKS can be parried in the air, so it doesn't get much use. His lp flash chop special can be combo'd into, his HP version can be followed by up different specials and even his super arts. Unfortunately for opponents it doesn't stop there. His slash elbow has different strength versions that reach all lengths of the stage. All non-EX versions of his slash elbow can be cancelled into Boomerang Raid and his EX version is stupid fast. He can be right next to you in a split second regardless of distance which is something most grapplers can't do. One of his best specials is probably his Air Stampede where he jumps high over fixed distances. Now only does it cross up, but his EX version can punish someone from across the stage. Despite being a grappler he plays more like a high stun rush character. It shows in his powerbomb/backdrop/spiral DDT command grab specials and his hyper bomb super. All of his command grabs are slow enough to be stuffed, there are no EX versions and his spiral DDT can be nullified entirely by crouching, but his grabs do have good stun value. His hyper bomb (360 grab super) has no start up problems, but you can just jump out of it once you see the super flash which makes it a rarely used Super Art. Boomerang Raid is his most used super, but in 3S it doesn't cover much horizontal distance, so you usually have to combo into to get full damage (which isn't particularly high compared to other SAs in the game). If his only negatives were grab related he'd be great, but he has few combos and fewer ways to combo into his Boomerang Raid Super Art.

As you can see, he is nothing at all like Zangief or your average grapplers because he can be in your face in a split second like some sort of American engineered and steroid powered Makoto. If all things stayed the same he'd do much better in a game without parries. Slightly faster command grabs, increased horizontal distance coverage on Boomerang Raid and more new combo pathways would make him the character he was always meant to be and everyone else would LOSAHS.
He hasn't been in a game for a little while. You can expect similar responses to the Rufus DLC in SF6.
No lol

Alex, Ken, Charlie and Guile>>>>>>>>>>>>>Rufus

Alex and Guile are more harmless American stereotypes. Rufus just looks dumb as hell. Makes sense considering how America must have been viewed in Japan between Obama and Clinton's presidencies, though haha.
I don't think alex is gonna have charge moves this time around.
Sounds like Jon Talbain's climb razor special. I could live with that.
I'm not fond of those big muscly characters. Where's my Makoto, C. Viper, Sean and Poison.
Makoto had better be season 2 DLC.

on the subject of sean, one of the reasons I wannna see him comeback is because in 3 he just had a copied body of ken and ryu. When it seemed like as the art went on, espically in the case of your avatar, he wasn't supposed to be the same size as ken and ryu he was supposed to be skinner and smaller. So hopefully they go with that and make him a younger in that regard.

I think stomp might be a V skill or like duddley's thunderbolt the odd one off charge move. but yeah I think slash might end up an able situation.

Halfway through the character stories and having a blast with this. I didn't play much IV and I'm pretty much the definition of casual, but this just feels like such a tight package. I miss Akuma though, used to play him whenever I did load up IV.

How long does each character story take? I'm considering going through them all twice to have some fight money on both the PS4 and PC version.

I've just read on Twitter someone saying that you need 1500 online victory to unlock a character (well to have enough fight money). Is that true? What is the source of that? I asked him but he didn't answer yet. If that's true it's kinda a lot... 1500 victories in ranked matches can take a while. ^^"

That seems to be the math based on the amount of Fight Money won per match in the beta and a character costing 100K Fight Money. We're not sure exactly how it's going to pan out, but there are other ways to earn Fight Money within the game!

It's almost like Capcom wants people to spend money on the characters they are developing.

Oh! I see thanks! Well yes I heard we can earn that money through the Story mode too. Honestly 1500 ranked victories is huuuuuge especially to me since I'm pretty bad... :D

Well, we'll soon know how hard/long it is to get enough fight money to unlock a character. :)

Hard to say. Most any number people throw out right now is based on beta values for Fight Money rewards, which doesn't include any other sources of earning Fight Money from single player. Plus once they actually open the store there will be additional daily challenges that will likely be a larger source of consistent Fight Money.

I have a feeling there's going to be a lot of upset people when they find out how much you have to go through to unlock characters for free.

I'm ready to go through, well, 10/20 hours of playing to unlock character but anyways it will depends on people skills. What it needs to get this fight money will take 5 hours to some people and 50 hours to another, so we'll see.

But yes, people shouldn't expect to unlock a character after finishing the Story mode once, on easy difficulty. :)

He's young, he's a bro, he has no filter, he's extremely agile despite being #bulklife, many Hogan references and the most dramatic normals in SF history (standing HK, back + HP, forward + HP, etc), a ton of command grabs that look different depending on if you spin the opponent around with the heavy slap move, combos, fireball nullifying w/ the slaps and ex head stomp (almost instant from full screen), etc.

In short: he's a highly versatile hybrid character who is the cool kind of parody, as opposed to the clown kind of parody.

He's a unique character with a cool design and a weird hybrid moveset, there aren't many fighting game characters out there that have motion moves, command grabs and charge moves. He was missing in action in SF4 which was weird because he was pretty much the protagonist of SF3's nonsense plot. Seemed like a shoo-in for a returning character but many other SF3 reps got in instead. I was hyped for Abel before SF4 since he seemed similar to Alex but he was nothing alike, Abel was an important first step to me getting into other grapplers though.

Anyways I always had a lot of fun playing as Alex, easily my favorite SF3 character and his voice quotes are burned into my mind. He makes me think of Terry Bogard in that there isn't another similar fighting game character but everything just feels right.

I'll be surprised if you can unlock one in 20 hours of play, sounds way too reasonable.

Well then I'll wait! :p I'll play the game a loooot anyway so "20 hours" was more what I wish than my "maximum limit", I'm a guy who often wait GOTY versions of the game to get all the DLCs of a game included, so playing the game 50/100h+ to unlock a character... Why not.

I don't think all characters will be obtainable for free by playing consistently. Only the extreme hardcore will have enough money for all characters. I assume you use the fight money for characters you actually want. So out of the 6 characters maybe you only like 3 of those and it should be easy enough to have enough fight money for half the DLC. All the DLC will obviously take some real grinding.

Yeah unless Capcom is generous it's going to take not only grinding but skill to get consistent fight money from wins (for the average player). This is not some mmo or jrpg grinding here. After completing dailies and story mode I think people are going to be set back a bit by how long DLC might take them. Then they will measure it up against 'premium' costumes for real money and either be happy to buy stuff or be annoyed by the Shop being in a full retail priced game. I'm really excited actually to see how Capcom is going to balance this.

I think not. Haven't seen anything like the China stage anyway. I think they just gave up on that. Maybe they'll add that down the road.

Very very short. It's quite nice actually, the padding between the fights is minimal, you get some absolutely gorgeous cutscenes with some beautiful art (God I'd buy the shit out of a 2D hand-drawn style SF game with that look) and there's no pre-match versus screen or results, just fighting and story. 2-3 one-round matches for each character.

Can you continuously net Fight Money by playing through single player modes several times, or do you only get Fight Money on your first playthrough of each story? I don't play online very often, so hopefully I'm not fucked out of "free" DLC for preferring the offline modes.

No one knows yet but I'd imagine you'd only get fight money the first time through. Otherwise people are going to set up bots and trickey to auto-farm fight money. How many of us would leave our games on overnight with a little birdie to help us grind fight money if we could. Be honest :) Considering the e-sports aspect they may want to encourage you to hop online and win fights in order to earn fight money. Gives players some incentive to get better and rank up online and engage in multiplayer, in turn this will also keep the community alive and online matches active. Just my 2 cents. Since the game is relying on the DLC market to survive financially I don't see Capcom being too generous.

What nkz said.

Also, you wouldn't be fucked out of anything, you just wouldn't have the fight money. There's a difference.

Likely a one-time purse for the stories. The daily challenges that will start up alongside the store launch may be CPU-based challenges though rather than daily goals against other players (sort of like set daily configurations of survival mode challenges).

Definitely not.

If you aren't going to play online often, the "free" character unlocks aren't really meant for you. The one silver lining is at least you can build up fight money with the daily challenges and stuff, but I'm not sure if you need to play online to complete them...

Wouldn't be surprised at all if they ripped off Hearthstone, honestly.

That's my guess. Since it is kind of a DAU-targeting thing I doubt it will be daily challenges that force players into online matches; they're mainly just trying to get players to log in each day, and high challenge tasks aren't all that great for that. My guess is they might do some kind of weekly goal that has its own purse for meeting certain numbers of online ranked match wins, or just online ranked matches in general with wins contributing more towards that goal.

Why not just buy the Season Pass and spare yourself the agony and stress of saving up Fight Money for characters? Fight Money also is gonna be used for COSTUMES, y'know...

I plan on playing SFV alot but I just do not wanna worry about dealing with saving up Fight Money for a freaking character.

I am a sucker for grinding for things which normally is bad but in this game it will force me to put some serious time into fighting other human beings. Which I already know I enjoy because of how much time I put into the beta.

I hope modders try to make the background characters on PC 60fps first thing when the game is out.

Or at least remove them, that would work too.
