With Quantum Break going PC who is ditching the X1 in favor of a new rig?

I just bought a xbone for 190 EUR to play the upcoming exclusives. Pretty reasonable price for the performance I'll get. I just saw what a 980ti costs...

This is killer. I'm going to get a few more games of Halo in and then I'm selling the Bone asap, I'll likely not even lose a penny on my original investment.

This is pretty much it for me with Xbox, I think they are going a different route with the entertainment products.

Please explain how this is "it" for you and Xbox? You do realize that you'll still be in the Xbox ecosystem right? You will be using Xbox Live and using their friends list when playing these Windows 10 games, with Xbox achievements. You aren't done with Xbox...you're just done with their console...but you are still an Xbox customer. LOL.

? Not sure PC sales eat into Xbox sales. Would love to see some stats though.

Ultimately, MS have the numbers and wouldn't do this if it harmed thier products.

Honestly, if Quantum Break, Killer Instinct, Tom Braider 2016 and Fable didn't come to PC, I wouldn't even care to play them. Sunset Overdrive isn't on PC and a freaking LOVE insomniac, but I'm still not buying an XBOne for that game. BUT if that game came to PC, I'd pick it up day 1.

The fact that Quantum Break may stress my i7-4790k and Zotac GTX980-Ti Amp! EXTREME!!!, has me interested in it.

Still odd how the "Recommended" specs are WAY higher than the XBOne's Windows 10 Based DX12 running hardware (1.8Ghz AMD CPU with a Radeon 7750 equivalent GPU(a 7790 tied to GDDR3 = 7750 performance, because math)

lol Good one.

Those recommended specs are probably to run it at maxed settings near 1080/60

Even Rise of The Tomb Raider struggles to match that performance goal on high end cards. It just means the PC versions of these games probably have some extra features compared to X1 that are very demanding, which is nice that people who have the hardware can get something extra out of it rather than just a barebones port.

Of course, if it turns out to just be very poorly optimized then that's a different story

My friends and family chipped in and got me an XB1 for Chrimbo (They knew I needed one to play Scalebound and said I'd just bitch about it if I had to buy it myself. They know me too well it seems... and this was when Scalebound was supposed to be a 2016 game obviously), so it goes without saying I can't go ditching it again like I did my launch machine, but I can totally see how the console's ever shrinking value proposition in terms of unique software to call it's own could push people to what you're doing, OP. I know Quantum Break was the only title I was considering taking it out of it's box for coming in the near future, but that seems like it won't be necessary now I guess.

I can understand Microsoft's reasoning in their current approach to software and all, but it is a bit odd that that they don't seem too bothered about making a piece of proprietary hardware they've sunk a ludicrous amount of money into establishing look like an inferior (More expensive, paywalled game features, technical shortcomings, etc) option for playing games they've made or paid for the production of themselves. I'm no businessman though, so I'm not going to pretend to be an expert on the matter.

It makes sense to do this with a new IP. Maximise the sales and if it is good they can have the sequel as exclusive on the next Xbox.

If the game is good there is more chance of a sequel now.

Not sure why the anger. People play the game and you get to play it too.

Pissing off a huge chunk of your fanbase for a brand new IP would actually be a terrible move.

I will just upgrade my GPU when the next refresh of cards come out for a bit more than an XB1. I was never really planning on getting one anyway since I prefer my products to be beta tested in the past but now I will probably at least have access to the few exclusives that were actually interesting to me.

I have all 3 consoles, and I'm not really excited by any of them anymore. Lately it's all about Rainbow Six Siege and American Truck Simulator on the PC for me. And with Oculus Rift on the horizon, I'm really only interested in the PC now. I don't think I'll sell the consoles, but I'm a bit disappointed in how short of a life they've had.

Who is pissed off? Apart from Tim Dog and his other pal on Twitter. Being pissed off that more people get to play a game is childish.

The game is currently coming to Xbox. So not sure why there is a reason to be pissed off. Not like it's going to release on PS4 or Wii U.

I mean all of the people who bought it on PC would be angry if it suddenly became X1 exclusive.

Look what happened with Tomb Raider

Besides I do agree with you that the contrary would be the same, I think it's quite silly to pre-order a game that far from release and still expect everything to be delivered exactly as first said. I know, I know... that would be the right thing! But the gaming industry has shown how things like these happen all the time.

Besides... am I the only one who thinks that QB would come to PC sooner or later anyway? Remedy games are strong on PC, and with MS hinting a lot of Xbox games to Windows 10 I totally expected that one to be on the list.

Industry moving forward with this.

Why can't I get Sony games on PC as well?

The more it is seen as a neutral ground the better everyone will be.

I'd you can't afford a rig to run these games you have a cheaper more accessible option.

This isn't going to lose anywhere near the number of console sales as some here hope/expect. It'll barely change it in fact. It will never change the fact that PCs are around, and consoles are. Consoles arenwhat they are because they are a simple investment to play all the games on it, PCs aren't. Maybe for you they are, but generally, they aren't.

Personally, I have a PC, can it run QB? Probably not. I won't even consider getting it on PC anyway because I like the console, how it works, the ease of it. Friends, everything.

People selling their xboxs to play in PC instead, good for you. You're probably the biggest offended, and Microsoft wint even notice. You've already bought the console, you're buying their game on PC.

With games on both, more money will be put in, they'll get more and we will get even more new IP, risks, and exclusives. I'm happy

Be like me and be happy too.

It's one less reason to own an Xbox One. Ok, your average casual console gamer isn't going swap their X1 for a gaming rig. But gaming enthusiasts will be tempted. And that's my point releasing an exclusive on another platform (this case PC) is one less reason for THAT group of people to continue investing in the X1 as a platform.
Exclusives draw people to a particular platform. I just think this another way of MS saying they don't really care about X1 sales anymore.

More expensive than what?

Nope, still getting QB for X1. X1 is still great for other things than game exclusives like 360 BC. I'll get QB on PC when it's on sale like $10.

This doesn't make any sense. You can still keep your Bone with all that stuff and play the better version of QB on PC.

The PS4 has sold 36 million on the back of third party advertising and promos. They haven't even released a God of War, Uncharted, or Gran Turismo game yet. Exclusives aren't as important as people think, or the X1 would have won holiday NPD this year.

People building a new rig for QB will also have a machine for VR. All consoles for the foreseeable future will be dead to me once I start gaming in VR-O-Vision.

Did I read his post wrong? What you're suggesting is exactly what he said... just that he is getting QB when it's cheaper on PC.

So, if multiplayer games like Gears of War 4 come out as cross-buy, will Windows 10 owners have to get a Gold subscription to play online?

Or will they get it for free while Xbox One owners have to pay the yearly fee?

Odd ,how all these gamers who weren't going to buy an Xbox in the first place, is officially now definitely not buying one.

Yeah and I bet a lot of those people bought a PS4 because they know that will be the only way to play Uncharted and Gran Turismo or whatever their favourite PlayStation franchise is.

Nah my rig can probably run it already but if it can't all I need to do is upgrade my video card, so ill keep the XB1 for now. I'll probably get a 980 somewhere down the line though.

And now going to buy Xbox games (cuz they are Xbox games) and back into the ecosystem. Funny how that works. LOL.

He said "Nope, still getting QB for X1"

Oh.

Well, I'm getting it on Xbox as well. It comes with the PC version for free, maybe he didn't know that part. If you have an Xbox One and PC and are buying it day one, it makes way more sense to buy it on Xbox One.

It's been like that since the launch of Xbox One, "I was just about to buy one tomorrow!!! but not anymore!!", lol

I love my XB1 as well as my PS4. Still has exclusives I enjoy, like Halo and Forza. Best controllers on the market and they can also work with PC.

So no, not ditching XB1. However, I already planned to build a gaming PC in the next year, so announcements like this just help justify that expense in the future.

The only real change in behavior for me is possibly to preorder the digital version so I can also get the PC version. Not sure tho because I far prefer physical copies. If I wait a bit I can probably pick QB up cheap physically and just buy the Windows version if I want it in the future. We'll see.

Fanboysism is a sad shit.

It's so futile how it works. You have, in one side, fanboys of a brand Y raging because a game they supposedly care is now going to be released on a different platform (even though said game will still be available at that platform); in the other side you have fanboys of a brand Z going nuts because brand Y lost an exclusive title, for no logical reason.

People get so emotionally attached for a brand that they lose common sense.

Glad to hear you'll be building an updated rig, OP. This has probably already been said, but try and make it as small, and as quiet as possible, and place it right next to your consoles and TV. That way you'll never play another multi-platform single-player game on a current generation console again. ;-)

As for your question, I'll need Forza Motorsport and Forza Horizon to make it to PC before packing up my X1 for good.

I'm kind of considering it. I have an Xbox One for the exclusives and to play with one of my other friends who has an Xbox. The latter seems to be like the only thing keeping me from selling it and building my own tower.

I wonder if they'll ever put Halo out on PC. I'd love to play through the Master Chief collection with full mouse and keyboard support.

I have a PC with Tripple Titan Xs that is a beast but still Gona be Xbox for me, like everything but PC exclusives.

Fair few reasons why, but mainly Xbox is where my friends are.

I'm surprised you were considering purchasing Quantum Break on any platform.

I always intended to play Quantum Break on my Xbox One. Plan hasn't changed. I'm not ready to spend the kind of money I know would be necessary to run a game like Quantum Break at max or near max settings.

I will note the turnaround of people that seemed to be of the impression QB would suck, but are now suddenly excited once they hear its coming to PC.

Dramatic, and fast, shift.

If you already had a console to play the games on why sell them? You would still need to invest a lot more than 500 to get a new PC up to specs.

If you already had a PC, but needed to upgrade it then it is about 500 to get that new video card to play the game at recommended settings. You could sell the X1 for about 250 and you old card to get the new stuff, but if you need more components you need more than that to get the games running.

And the third case is if you already had both an X1 and a PC up to specs, then why the hell would you sell the console then? For what? You still get cross platform versions of the game for one price in some cases, so you can play it twice.
