With Quantum Break going PC who is ditching the X1 in favor of a new rig?

Is this going to be one of those things were ten people in a forum thread say they are doing it so we pretend like it's a trend millions of people are now taking?

I'm kidding. Of course it will.

Ok so let me ask you something. If Microsoft are really all about giving gamers options, why is it that I have to pre-order through the Xbox one store in order to get this cross-buy "deal"? Why can't I buy it on the Windows 10 store and also get the Xbox One version as cross-buy?

Or do you believe and regurgitate every line of PR bullshit that they put out?

Well, Spencer said cross buy will be system feature on Twitter, so there's that.
Who know what that's mean.

Does anyone know if I pre order this ln Xbox One, will the Win 10 version be tied to my Microsoft account, or will it be a code I can give away?

No joke, I will not buy the next console from Microsoft if this is what they're doing going forward. If I can play Halo and Gears and Forza and what not on PC, I will buy a new PC and leave Xbox behind altogether. Why pay for overpriced junk with proprietary standards and a shitty $50 a year online service if I don't have to?

I've owned OG Xbox, 3 Xbox 360 (launch premium, Elite, slim) and Sunset white Xbox One and ten years of Xbox Live. I'd leave the brand in a heartbeat if the games were available elsewhere.

If you are playing "Halo and Gears and Forza and what not" on PC, your not really leaving the brand. Just saying.

Normally it's a code like they did with the Gears of War games that came free with Gears Ultimate Edition, but it'd make more sense to tie to the account you buy from.

Unclear at this stage, perhaps they have sent out codes to those already pre-ordered?

You do realise you'll still be paying and playing within a MS platform right ie 'Xbox'? The way I see it, it's not your job, rather it's up to MS to convince players to purchase their system through exclusives, UI etc. But there are always people that prefer PC gaming for obvious reasons like hardware personalisation, setup, with MS accommodating them too, it can only be a positive.

I would never ditch whatever console in favor of a new pc rig only because game XY is suddenly available on pc. No. I like the ease of playing on console. Put whatever game in and it runs even after a lot of years of buying the console unlike PC.
So instead of upgrading my PC every 1,5 years I put my money in buying more games.

I'm hopefully getting a decent gaming PC to run an occulus rift.

I'll almost certainly play non-vr games on my Xbox though. Why? convenience. Stuff just works and auto patches and my kids can use it easily.

Plus I have some gaming friends on the Xbox platform. I'm not *that* fussed about being able to see more detailed grass 300 feet away :)

I'm glad that MS are linking up the Xbox and PC gaming ecosystems, albeit fairly gingerly at first. I genuinely think both systems can benefit, and if steam gets a bit more of a competitor?

It's interesting watching steam dominate the PC market, and valve try to "consolize" it, while MS have a sizeable console presence and are trying to leverage that backwards into PC gaming.

Where MS have been making bets, they have been pretty big and pretty long term, (e.g. windows mobile, 4 generations of surface tablet) so it will be interesting to see how hard they push PC gaming.

10 years?
Didn't it grow on you?

,
You are not leaving the brand, you are just getting them on W10 store now. You will still get achievements, same user name, crossplay, ect

Why should it? We are talking about inanimate objects here that serve a purpose. If someone feels a platform they have used for a decade no longer serves the purpose they want it to why should they continue to use/buy it? Out of nostalgia?

I ditched my Xbox 360 around the time that Microsoft decided they were goimg to start chasing the Wii crowd and focus on Kinect. I will not hesitate to do the same with my Xbox One if I feel it no longer serves any purpose to me.

You are still buying Xbox games, controllers, W10, selling you digital games instead of retail probably helps a bunch too. Microsoft is still getting paid. Its not like MS is making bank on the actual console sale, heck they are probably losing a bit. They do lose a little in live sales tho.

It's not about avoiding giving money to Microsoft. Nobody is saying that. It's about not buying additional hardware that you don't need.

I am seriously considering selling my X1 and WiiU and just upgrading to a 980ti i7 combo.

Ill see how i feel i the coming weeks but I never play my wiiU and my X1 pretty much only gets turned on when the PS4s twitch is not outputting at the right quality.

Much as I hate the idea of what Windows 10 is trying to do, privacy wise, I can just throw it on its own dedicated partion and call it a day.

My steam games and the Majority of my cpu on time will still be on windows 7.

Just a heads up/PSA for the people who're considering throwing their X1's - There a MSFT event focussed on X1/WIN10 games on the 25th of this month. Hold out until then. You may not or may regret getting rid of it later. Might get an idea if indeed the gamespot screwup was real and if their vision for Windows is actually being another whole platform for their Xbox division and their entire portfolio, no matter what happens with the Xbox consumer base.

So now you have that alternate option, as do many others if they choose to go that route.

I already have a strong pc.
I'm happy i'm going to be able to play quantum break on pc. But it's sad to see my xbox one reduced to a netflix machine.

Good news for me. I sold my Xbox One like 2 months after I got it back in 2014. With all their exclusives coming to PC, I will probably be building my first PC next year when my financial situation is OK. As someone who has always been a PlayStation first, I see no need for an XB1. My PC I build will be only for gaming, as I hate windows and am a Mac user.

I see the big picture of Microsoft wanting to sell big numbers in software but it's really killing reason for people to buy an X1 over upgrading their PC. Especially when it's in 3rd place against the PC and PS4 in the graphics department (which is now the biggest feature that sells instead of gameplay). You would think that they would at least have exclusive content that could only be played if you had the X1 version. Those who don't want to bother with a PC upgrade, see it as a hassle, are X1 loyalists or those who don't need a PC that bad will keep their sales ok but this is becoming a very big debate over many forums and sites. Image how many system sales Nintendo would loose if their exclusives were on PC and mobile.

Just a rant of mine though.

The high requirements could have the opposite effect, I have the minimum requirements bar a older i7. I know as a PC gamer I need a new rig, I am a willing to spend some serious bucks. But I am waiting to Pascal and I have a costly holiday to pay for.

Are upcoming Xbox ports going to need some serious specs (yes), where a 970 is the same price as a console, also will the multiplayer stuff have a high player base ?. How many people bought cheaper PC's to rival consoles and then they are struggling to play newer stuff.

If all you want to play are the big AAA games, with multiplayer you a better off on console, this is coming from a strictly only PC gamer.

I left PC gaming behind a long time ago. Every single time I've dabbled in going back, I am slammed with all the reasons I gave it up.

Moreover, I've enjoyed my Computer experienced so much more since I went all Mac. I have picked up PCs off and on over the years, and it sucks the fun out of everything every time.

If I don't try to make my computer my gaming rig, it lasts longer and I spend far less money, even paying the "Apple Tax."

I have an XB1 and Wii U. That covers my gaming with more games than I have time to play, and I don't have to pretend Windows is worth the hassle.

i have no interest in a HTPC, because my XB1 and TiVo handle all of my media consumption more than adequately.

Even if I decided to get a PC, it wouldn't come close to replacing a console.

The GPU alone will cost you $650. Have fun building a $1,300-1,500 PC that will play the same game as your $300 Xbox One.*

*This is of course assuming you bought it last holiday season and not at launch like me.

It still floors me that these sorts of ignorant fallacies permeate the internet. You don't need a $1300-1500 build to achieve the same experience as an Xbone, an Xbone sets the lowest visual bar, not the upper bar. If you want the same experience set the resolution to 720P and turn texture details/particle effects/shadows/reflections/AF/AA/AO to medium or low. You DO NOT need a monster build for that, and even then you will probably experience higher and more consistent frame rates.

On the other hand, if you want to experience the highest fidelity possible beyond HD graphics (4K or 3440x1440), with maximum details, supersampling and effects specifically leveraging DX12 GPUs above 30 FPS, then you fork out the cash knowing that your eyeballs are going to be immersed in graphical bliss. Good luck trying to duct tape several Xbones together in order to match that graphical fidelity.

Plus, the initial price can be high if you go for something $1000+, but considering you have to pay a Live subscruption over the course of consoles life and the fact you can buy games for 10 or 20 dollars cheaper on PC depending where you get them from, the actual price difference can sway IN FAVOUR of the PC over time. I blew my my friends minds when I added the savings from my PC to the asking price of a console. I subtracted the saving price from my PC and it ended up cheaper than a PS4.
