With Quantum Break going PC who is ditching the X1 in favor of a new rig?

I'm strongly considering it. The PS4 is my primary multiplatform game system this gen. So the X1 is only used for exclusives. I also already have a decent gaming rig. So QB may be the tipping point for me to trade in my X1.

Of course they are getting the games, but now a better version is available for another platform.

This in my opinion at least means pushing your user base on another platform.

I have a 980ti/ i74770k combo and I won't sell my Xb1. The return for selling is usually marginal at best, and it still has a number of exclusives and ease of use to just keep around.

A platform Microsoft owns. The game is Windows 10 exclusive and from everything I've read it seems to be Windows Store exclusive. The Xbox One is essentially the barrier for entry and if you have spent the money for a good PC, you can now take that game and run it better. I don't see the issue.

Everything is better on the PC, for everything. This changes nothing. Not many people want or can build a gaming PC, why do you even assume this? or give a fuck?

Well, Quantum was one of three games I was interested in on the thing. Now I just need Scalebound and Sunset Overdrive and I'll never need to worry about grabbing a Bone.

That platform requires a significant investment. Most people buy consoles because it's convenient compared to PC.

I was close many times to caving and buying an xbone for cheap, thankfully I never did. QB is the game I wanted most. Absolutely love Remedy.

A platform that costs 3-4x as much. It's not about pushing a userbase, its about giving a choice. If people want to spend 1500 dollars to play a better version, why is that bad? The X1 version does not suddenly become worse - only comparatively so if you choose to view it in that lens

I literally got a new PC last week (optimized to play The Witcher 3 perfectly) and already it doesn't match Quantum Break's recommended specs. GTX 980 Ti recommended is crazy.

Xbox One version it is.

This topic has a lot of weird posts like this. A GPU with 5x of the real performance in games as compared to xb1 is not going to be running the game with xb1 setting )i.e. the recommended specs are WAY above the xb1 specs), especially since it is DX12 only. The PC version will probably be utilising PC hardware in extremly positive and higher fidelity ways.

shave that 1500 down by about 50%

I'm loving this overreaction. I will not be selling my XB1. I, instead, preordered Quantum Break as I get the Win 10 version for free. I prefer to play my games on my 65" TV with surround sound. I realize I can put my PC on the TV, but thats not for me.
I completely understand the sentiment here, but if MS gives us crossbuy and bonuses such as AW BC, why the rage?
They're trying to build a Win 10 ecosystem. This is a step in that direction. I can start the game on my TV, and finish on my PC or go back to my XB1. I'm cool with that.

No, for sure.
But I see a new 1000-1500$ rig as a long term investment.
It will probably stay on par with Xbox Two power-wise, if they go for low power consumption and off the shelf parts next gen again.

I buy new PCs every 7-8 years and I have never upgraded them.
I will never buy a console on day 1 again and I will rather invest the money into upgrades
this time than buying two consoles.

Im considering it, but im angry with myself for buying soo many digital games on the XB1, but from now on ill get games for the PC and once ive finished all the digital games on the XB1 ill probably sell it.

Guess this will be the last physical console MS ever make!

Your forgetting on PC you dont need to pay and XBox Live sub each year to play games on line, and games on PC tend to be half the price of the same game on the XB1.....and also an inferior version to boot!!. You'll make that money back you spent on a rig after a year!

I am!

The last few months I've literally played a handful of hours on my Xbox One. All I do is stream, Netflix etc. (and at that, MS is pissing me off with those extra MS-titles Twitch advertisements).

I've been considering for a while, and if the price is right, I'll gladly let my XBO go. I need to start looking into building a gaming PC.

Absolutely. Microsoft understands where they're at with the Xbox One. It's a console with an awful pre-launch message that while selling well now is selling less than its more powerful competitor. At this point being able to offer their games to people with Windows 10 and decent hardware makes a lot of sense.

We're on an enthusiast forum where we do see a lot of people with decent rigs, but there are still millions of people out there who only have an Xbox One or a PS4 who won't ever have a gaming rig. Being able to hit each of those groups helps make these big investments in exclusive games make a lot of sense to Microsoft.

Agreed. I've said this a thousand times. Gamers fall into 3 categories; PC-Only, Console-Only, or PC & Console. (yes, I'm excluding phone & tablet)

With no factual data to back myself up, I still feel confident in saying the PC & Console group is most likely a major minority when compared two the other two groups. The PC-Only and Console-Only people are most likely going to stick with what they are happy or comfortable with. The majority of Console-Only gamers are not going to switch to PC because they can play the same games.

Will some people decide to buy a PC rather than an XB1 because they can play some of the same titles available on XB1? I would say yes, but it won't be a significant amount. Certainly not an amount that will affect console sales in any major fashion.

Cross-buy is a smart move on MS's part. They know what they're doing. It's a win-win for them, and a win for Xbox & PC gamers alike.

If having a very powerful PC to run big game releases on was a primary concern, I would've never got an Xbox One in the first place. You buy an Xbox One not just for the games lineup, but also for the features and overall experience that comes with owning the system.

So even with certain big Xbox One releases going PC it won't really do much of anything to detract from what will otherwise still be an awesome gaming experience on the platform, because you know the devs are making sure to get the most out of the Xbox One.

I'm an PC+ PS4 owner, seems like now my PC is officialy an XB1 as well! such great news.

PC+PS4 is now obviously the best combo for this gen.

I upgraded last year, but then I don't even know what Quantum Break is. It's about time we got some cross-platform games, though.

Why would I need Xbox Live for Quantum Break? Or any single player game for that matter?

Always had a gaming PC but I'm selling the XB1 and going PC - Nintendo exclusive from now on. Unless the next Xbox is killer in some way I'm done with it. I can live without Sony's weak offerings too.

My X58 PC is still kicking it, God bless her soul. No need for a new build for a few years yet.

If anyone wants to buy my Xbox in the UK let me know. (Also in BST thread).

I theory this should works, but PC gaming specs keep getting pushed up especially if you fancy playing multi-format games. but they don't optimise games.I have been PC gaming long enough to believe that PC gaming is not cheaper or more economical if you want to play AAA multiformat releases.

Bring Halo to PC, do it.

For every budget there is a pc.
Don't forget, it's better to get good used parts then new parts, you can get insanely good deals if you price haggle a bit.
For about 400 - 500 there can be very powerful rigs.
More you spend = higher resolutions/fps and settings.

As long as you have something like a 750ti you can play on higher settings than console.
I recommend something like a 680, very good price/performance ratio 2nd hand.

I have an X1 and a 2500K/980TI rig. The X1 gets to stay around to play with my friends who have one and for games with gold.

Otherwise I will play anything on PC given the choice. It might be a different story if the console was more powerful, but that's an entirely different discussion.

frankly quantum break wasn't even on my radar until it became a PC game.

if I buy this on the Windows store does that mean I can download and play the game on both Xbox and PC? (and would that apply to Tomb Raider which I own from the Windows Store as well?)

It's a coincidence, but it's done already. I just received a cable to connect my Xbox 360 controller to my PC, so no reason whatsoever to own an XBO anymore, particularly if Scalebound follows suit. Very happy about this.

Very true

I was never a PC gamer and I prefer the convenience of consoles so nope.

Still happy about the news as this will give Quantum Break a better chance to do well and turn into a series.

Friends then? (Wondering why you play multiplats on PS4 instead of PC).

I was considering purchasing an X1 sometime this generation (my purchase kept getting pushed back for various reasons) for these games until this announcement.

it is not good business to invest so much Into trying to convince PC gamers to invest in any console. They won't buy multiplatform games on a console (third party royalties is where the real money is.) and they won't invest in any subscriptions. Buying a few exclusives is not good payoff for platform holders.

I'm planning on building a pretty powerful PC soon, and I will still play most of my multiplats on PS4. Things like CoD, Sports games, Fighting games, Racing games, and a bunch others I just prefer on consoles. Trophies are a big pull for me too.

Also, why the hell is a 980ti in the recommended specs? Surely a GTX 970 will run this on high settings no problem @60fps?

980 TI recommended is insane! I think this is the first time a game I've gone to play has recommended higher than my 970 :( I know, or hope, the 970 will still do fine with the port but yikes

This is extremely exciting for me. I was contemplating getting an Xbox, but as a PC gamer, I will be able to play these great IPs.

This is killer. I'm going to get a few more games of Halo in and then I'm selling the Bone asap, I'll likely not even lose a penny on my original investment.

This is pretty much it for me with Xbox, I think they are going a different route with the entertainment products.
