Because its based on Deadpool

I stand by my Deadpool is quietly popular stance. Shoot, all those stores like Hot Topics and similar places always has a gang buster of Deadpool merchandise . The dude was creeping to become pretty popular, I think people have become more and more aware of him in the last few years.

This is gonna make about 4 times what Zoolander ends up with
I'm feeling that Zoolander 2 is definitely going to be viewed as one of those all-time bungled release date decisions. It made no sense to go head to head with Deadpool, and that's before we knew the potential of a Deadpool movie.

Crashing this plane... with no survivors!

He's been one of the most popular comic book characters for years. The box office numbers are still way higher than expected though.

It has a shot. It'll be close. Depends on Saturday, I think. Although it would be fucking hilarious if there's actually a Valentine's Day bump for Deadpool that noses it over the 100 mil line.
Deadpool got off to a blazing start last night, with a stunning $12.7 million in Thursday previews. The film began its run at 7:00 pm in its various formats (DLP, IMAX, PLF, D-Box, etc.) and now all that’s left to do is speculate just how big the Ryan Reynolds superhero action comedy will climb over the President’s Day holiday. That’s the biggest Thursday preview audience ever for an R-rated movie, ahead of Fifty Shades of Grey ($8.6m on this very weekend last year from Universal/Comcast Corp.) and The Hangover part II ($10.4m back in 2011 from Warner Bros./Time Warner Inc.). The 20th Century Fox production, which is, of course, a spin-off of X-Men Origins: Wolverine, is something of a test case in terms of selling a hard-R superhero comic book movie, something we haven’t seen that much of since Wesley Snipes’s Blade franchise came-and-went over a six-year period.

I mean it is a romcom at its heart /s

Seems like studios need to consider February as a good month to release worthwhile features. The hunger is real.

Last time Valentine's Day fell on Sunday most films did indeed increase, even something like Wolfman which you wouldn't guess would have that kind of couples appeal. So there's a very strong probability Deadpool stays at least flat on Sunday.

Who directed the movie?

I remember that Reynolds Deadpool was one of the thing that people liked the most about Wolverine movie (not the Deadpool with his mouth shut)

Cable is a nightmare to do on screen because explaining who he is requires a PHD in marvel literature.

The only way to do it would be with a completely different character from scratch that is cable in name only...and really, who wants that

Cable's convoluted backstory makes him perfect for Deadpool imo. If they had tried to play him straight by introducing him in a more 'serious' X-Men movie first, that would've been a clusterfuck.

Tim Miller. He did the FX for Scott Pilgrim and some video games.

His first feature as a director.

Kind of cool for Ryan Reynolds. I always liked him and never got the hate. He choose some terrible projects and he basically willed this to happen. Good for him.

Going on a double date to see it Sunday and know quite a few others who are going to see it on that day as well lol

Even if it just stays flat, that's a big help.

I don't know that it's going to have much in the way of legs, but even if it only has a 2x multiplier - you now live in an age where an R-Rated Deadpool movie might leave domestic theaters with 200mil squeezed between its tight red buttcheeks.

That's kinda great.

More importantly

It shows the viability of a superhero mask with white eyes.

Now what's the next step in your master plan?
Well this is good news. Hopefully this pushes some studios to make not only more R rated superhero flicks but more R rated movies in general. Of course the moment one of these bombs it will most likely go back to,"R rated movies are too big a risk!" when its more like a shitty R rated movie isn't worth the risk.

This is going to do just fine. Caught an 11am show this morning in the UK. There was hardly a free seat in the screen.

Movie went down really well with the audience. My girlfriend turned to me as we walked out and said she loved it which surprised me as she hasn't been the biggest fan of comic book movies so far.

He was born to play this role.

His portrayal of Wade Wilson (not Deadpool) in X-Men Origins was great.

Because its a Ryan Reynolds movie.

Because its based on Deadpool

Because its Hard R

Because its launching on Valentines Day Weekend

Because its staring down the barrel of making $100m+ this weekend.

Even though the marketing has been absolutely on point, I'm still reconciling this information

You're right. It's indeed mindblowing when you think about it.

I guess I was just so hyped by their perfect marketing campaign that I forgot what kind of movie we're dealing with.
